I kind of respect what OKC is doing right now. They had no hope to win last season and most teams in their position would have given up with the prospect of paying $140million in luxury taxes looming over them but they decided to give it another go and are trying to put together a team around Westbrook and George that might be able to compete.

That 2 or 3 week period last season when Roberson was healthy and it all clicked was great for them, it looked like they could be a challenge for Warriors and they annihilated them twice.

I admire their commitment and brave decisions (letting Oladipo and Sabonis go for a perceived one year rental of George, sending Ibaka to Orlando). It’s something we can’t say about Portland’s front office.

I feel like all of these changes to the salary cap have only fucked the small market teams. They should just put it back the way it was.

NBA won't be fixed before 2020 when most terrible deals from 2016 free agency expire. We will have talented players like Randle making $9million and bums like Biyombo making $18million until then.

Not phasing the salary cap increase in 2016 was a massive clusterfuck which ruined the league. It also made it possible for Durant to go to Warriors, we shouldn't forget.

I hope it bankrupts them and someone from Seattle buys the team and moves it.

What is our current cap situation? Can we still extend Nurk to something like a 10 mil deal AND use our AC TPE?

These apron rules confuse me

And I'm guessing we used part of our MLE to sign Curry. So we have about 2 mil left there.
Yeah, if his salary starts at 2.5, then we still have 2.8 left.
Apron comes into play in a sign and trade, BAE, or if we used the regular MLE

I'm guessing we're out of the running for any RFAs. Back to the salary list for TPE possibilities because that's our best tool now to improve the team. Think we'll have no choice but to trade for a pick while taking on salary. Then make a move later in the summer.

If Neil did that shit, he'd be roasted around here. They just put themselves in multiple year repeater tax for a team that lost in the 1st round and is structurally flawed. It still MAY work out, but likely won't. Presti finished well behind Neil in the Exec of the Year voting.

More cajones? Yes. More sense? No.

Why would fans care about luxury tax? And I like how their roster is constructed. They have an all star guard, an all star forward, and a defensive minded center. That’s a great base.

Can we do this? In some sort of order...

1. sign Beasley for rest of MLE.
2. Re-sign Nurk for 3 yr, 35 mil deal
2. Trade TPE to Denver for Faried + Denver pick
3. Trade Aminu + Leonard + our pick + Denver pick for Love

So the rotation becomes:
Dame/ Curry/ Wade
CJ/ Turner/ Stauskas/ Simons
Moe/ Beasley/ Trent
Love/ Faried/ Caleb
Nurk/ Collins

Replace Faried with chandler or Arthur since Faried doesn’t fit into tpe. I like the rest.

Ah yes, one of them. Maybe we can send them to CLE in a three way if they don't want Leonard and have contracts that expire next year.

They'll have worse problems than we have now. If they don't win, they'll start selling off anything decent to avoid the repeater tax. OTOH, Carmelo is expiring....

Important new cap info/projections now out for next 2-3 years

Zach Lowe: Very important information buried in the NBA’s salary cap memo sent to teams: projection for 2019-20 cap up to $109 million, and then $116 million for 2020-21. Cap is set at $101.9M for upcoming 2018-19 season. – via Twitter ZachLowe_NBA

Denver are not trading anybody for TPE while attaching a first round pick, they just traded Chandler into Sixers cap space and all they gave away was one second rounder and rights to swap another one. They are already out of luxury tax which was the goal so they may as well keep these players as both Faried and Arthur expire next year.

Theyre not out of the luxury tax at all. They're still $12M past.

Wow indeed. I didn’t think it was that bad but I wasn’t counting Barton’s $13million.

They do need to shed salary then. Getting rid of Faried might even cost them a first rounder. Chandler was easier to get rid of because he is a good player.

It's dumb. Imagine if they just paid harden that 80 some mil amt kept Ibaka.
