That's not how this works.
Yeah we will see. This transaction window isn't closed yet. The teams who struck out or didn't even try may think they need someone with Jerami's skillset. Another thing that I've been thinking is that I wonder if other GMs really do view Jerami with his contract as a negative value asset, or if they're just trying to bait Joe into including a pick with him. I'm not even sure if Joe is trying to get rid of Jerami.

Another thing that I find interesting is and correct me if I'm wrong but we still haven't seen the Jrue trade become official. A lot of stuff is up in the air for our team and roster. It will be interesting to see how things shake out. I'm assuming that we pretty much have the roster that we'll start the season with but I'm anything but sure about it.

Book it bro…

Some other people have figured that Grant would be a deadline move. Don’t hold your breath waiting for a Jerami Grant move this summer.
what are we waiting for? for him to increase his value? at the cost of tou and deni's playing time?

As a critic of Cronin, we can't say he hasn't been aggressive. I don't think we need to bend over backwards to move Grant, but if there's an opportunity to move him and it makes sense for the cap sheet and our roster, yes.

1st unit

Jru
Sharpe
Deni
Camara
Clingan

2nd unit

Scoot
Thybulle
Grant
Murray
Yang\RW3

Honestly we probably need his scoring looking at that.

In answer to your question, YES. The advantage of PWill is simply that he would be lower down the hierarchy and there would be no sense of obligation to start him or play him x minutes over the guys we want to play.
I think at this point Jerami knows he's gunna have to outplay both Camara and Avdija to see the floor, his salary is no longer a ticket to guaranteed minutes

I hope you're right as far as whose playing time is prioritized but I doubt any of the three of Deni, Tou or Jerami will play less than 30 minutes per game. I know it likely won't happed because Jrue Holiday is Jrue Holiday but I just wish we were going to see Scoot, Shaedon, Toumani, Deni and Donovan as our starters on opening night with vets like Jrue, Jerami, Tisse and Rob as vets off the bench. I won't be mad if Jrue is starting just a little disappointed, however if Jerami is starting and any or Shaedon, Deni or Tou aren't, I'll be pissed.

If he's startimg, playing well, and we're winning, no one will complain

As much as I hate to think it, I bet Jerami starts out as a starter in hopes of boosting his value.
OTOH would it be better if he was successful as the focus of the second unit?

So sounds like the Lakers wouldn't even want to ship off their crap unused parts for Grant?

Same salary this year and Vanderbilt has same 3 year contract. So for LA its basically getting 3 years of Grant for $40 million total - not too many dollars. But sucks if we can't even get rid of him for such little/zero value.
Trading Grant out for a healthy Vanderbilt is a win.

I gotta say it but the Sidery Tweet is a big -- No Shit Sherlock it would have been real news if he said something stupid like NBA exec's thought Grant's contract was a positive asset.

BTW -- Thanks again Cronin for NOT trading him last offseason that was a major cluster fuck on his part. -- period

His production may have fallen off, but I doubt that it was due to his age. You can't just look at his stats; you've got to be smart enough to take into consideration the circumstances of the team.

Having said that, he may just not be a good fit next to Deni (and Scoot). The style of play did change last season, and he (much like Ant) needs to adapt to the way Chauncey wants them all to play now. But that does not necessarily mean his skills are diminishing. I think most GMs are aware of that. The problem is his contract.

His stats were good when we were just feeding him the ball and he was ISOing. Same thing when he was in Detroit. He didn't play nearly as well when he was asked to fit into an offense.

Sounds like he took the summer off and took it easy after signing the deal. The results weren't great. I'm thinking he'll be better this season.

He will have to be. He sees his value is negative. Can't feel too good to know there is no market for himself. Then again, with $100 plus million still to be paid to him, it can't hurt to bad.

At some point, do you do the unthinkable and attach 1st rounder. Prefer not to but might need to get out from this contract

Jrue
Deni
Tou
Grant
DC

is my prediction. Until Scoot and Shae improve it has to be this way. Grant is more efficient I would guess. POR has to get the CHI FRP to convey to free up all of MIL's picks. They have to make the post season. no more lotto. Other option is to give someone away to CHI (or take junk back) to get them to send it back to POR. That seems unlikely. So POR has to play to win.
