Brook Lopez is a seriously good player. He's a tough skilled player. Has a bit of a mean streak and is assertive. He has a mid-range shot and plays D. There's not much to complain about.

In my opinion this trade is the best each team can do. Amare and Felton would have more of an impact for Charlotte than Augustin and whoever else. I think even Jordan has to see that. Phoenix gets a player that will be able to fill the offensive hole left by Amare in a few season, and a local fan favorite to fill the seats once Nash is gone. And well the Blazers get just about perfect.

I think every team comes out on top according to what has been reported each team is hoping to accomplish. Portland's first also goes to Phoenix in that trade, but the Trade Machine doesn't let you put them in there.
 
Here is my 25 cents worth

I think that KP has a number of trades ready to go, and he probably has them ranked on some kind of hierarchy, so that as one possibility is eliminated in the coming days, he moves on to the next.

I think that he would still prefer to get a small forward AND a point guard; especially after reading what Brandon Roy said about not getting much help creating from other Blazers (compared to Chris Paul). I think possibly Brandon gets a little tired with all the responsibility; it especially shows in his defense. He is not as strong physically and mentally as a Lebron James, and I think over the season and over the years, this will weigh on him more.

I am not able to see any other teams besides the Blazers, and less than half their games (all on the internet), so I have to form my opinions from looking at recaps, boxscores and scouting reports from Draft Express. None of the top young point guards are available. Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Devin Harris, Jose Calderon, Derrick Rose, Russel Westbrook. Of the rest, it seems the best young point guards (28 or under) might be Kirk Hinrich and Raymond Felton. The best small forward that might be available I think would be Caron Butler. After that Luol Deng, Gerald Wallace and Richard Jefferson. I haven't really heard anything to make me think Deng is available. Of the other two, Wallace would seem to be a better choice but I think his injury history really has to be taken into account.

1. So I would think the top priority would be to try to get Butler. If Washington traded him, that would mean they were hurting financially and blowing the team up, so I think we would have to take on either Jamison or Arenas (and their big contracts) to make it work. It would also require draft picks and whoever they wanted outside our big three. Is Butler really worth that much more than the others to make it worth it? Is Washington even interested? If they were, then we would have to try to figure out a 2nd trade to get either Hinrich or Felton. Maybe KP is holding this one in reserve if for some reason Washingonton would do it for less at the last moment. But he is probably focusing on more feasible alternatives...

2. Wallace and Felton from Charlotte. I try to think what Larry Brown would want from Portland. He seems to like tough defensive minded players but he was very successful previously using Channing Frye in New York. He might prefer Steve Blake over Rodriguez or Bayless as he apparently sees Augustin as their future starter. Maybe he would like Batum; he supposedly doesn't like to play rookies, but Nic has the poise of a veteran, so that might be a good package, RLEC, Batum, Frye Blake and draft pick for Wallace, Felton and we take on Nazr Mohammed's contract.

3. Jefferson and Ridnour from Milwaukee. This adds two veteran pieces and if Nate thinks Ridnour is an upgrade from Blake, then this wouldn't be a bad trade. We would send Outlaw, Rodriguez, Frye and maybe a draft pick for those two. If we needed to make it more palatable financially for them we could take back Gadzuric's contract and send them Frye also.

4.Get Salmons from Sacramento for RLEC and a pick and then try to get Hinrich, Ridnour or Felton in a separate trade.

That is how I would rank the desirability of the trades, Possibly Kp has a different hierarchy. I guess what he has to worry about is that while he is waiting for one possibility, someone else (multiple times), lower on the hierarchy gets traded and he might end up with nothing.

Woah... no way i'd do Salmons for RLEC and a pick... They are talkin' about Salmons for Frye right now...
 
Don't rule out multiples... a Salmons trade does not *necessarily* mean we are out of the SF market.

On the contrary: if we can do Frye for Salmons (steal), then we could still trade RLEC+Trout/Webster for Butler. Gives us a rotation at SF of Butler and Salmons (with Batum riding the pines for a year or two).

Or trade for Salmons and get Wallace for RLEC/Trout/etc. Wallace does not play this year (as he is injured), so Salmons gets the PT this year.

Yeh, I guess I was a little confused, we don't need to use the RLEC for salmons, in fact it is too big for him. Actually Frye contract is too small, Diogu and Frye works, don't know if they want to do that.

Where? It's not that I really want Amare, but adding him into a multi-team deal with Portland does raise the stakes.
 
As crazy and homer-licious as this sounds, I've gone from thinking someone of the Wallace/Vince/Jefferson group would be almost impossible without sending out too much (in October) to thinking I'll view someone like Prince or Wallace as a solid triple.

Butler's a home run. same with Amare...we'll figure out what to do with our "logjammed" team at the draft.

CP3 for anything not named Roy or Oden would be, well, a "get out the rye bread and mustard, grandma!" Grand Salami

Why??Phoenix saves money, for starters. Gets a mid to somewhat late draft pick, let's say 18-23ish. Very good young prospect in Bayless, local player. Another somewhat promising prospect in Freeland, who is putting up good numbers in the same league Gasol did. Comparable prospect? And again, they save money. Possibility of a follow up deal for them to try to move Barbosa, to save mroe money, acquire another prospect, and still compete this season.

Memphis loses two good prospects. Also lose salary from Darko and Jaric. Rebuild their team focusing on Mayo, Amare, and M. Gasol. Gives them a good offensive and defensive big, in Gasol and Amare. Great young backcourt player. They will still have a pretty high pick this draft, which could go towards SG like Harden, if they think Mayo can play the point, or on an available SF, depending on where they pick at. Also have a lot of cap space this offseason, to try to fill in holes with possible veterans, to become mroe competitive sooner. Could possibly throw them a 2nd rounder or two this season, which will be relatively high.

For Portland, they take on a lot of salary. But, Darko is an expiring contract for next offseason,w hich gives trade possibilities. Jaric, the following year. only lose one player, in bayless, who is contributing anything this season. Keeps Outlaw, Roy's friend. Keeps Sergio, Rudy's friend. Adds Conley, Greg's friend. (Does LMA have a friend he wants us to acquire? lol) Still gives us great opportunity going forward, with a load of assets.

Blake/Conley/Sergio

Roy/Rudy/Jaric

Gay/Batum/Webster

LMA/Outlaw/Frye

Oden/Joel/Darko.

Still will have expiring contracts, Koppo, Batum, Webster, etc. to move in follow up deals if there was a poor fit, but don't sacrifice much of anything
