Maybe, but more realistically if they played another team the results probably would’ve been different. Not every team is perfectly built like NO to stop our strengths. I know we could’ve beaten OKC, Minny, and SA.

I guess my thought process is that we can’t make lopsided trades salary wise or sign free agents.

What flexibility are you referring to in terms of player acquisition?

The one year we could accept lopsided trades was when Dame and CJ were still on their rookie deals. Same with any thoughts on having worthwhile cap space. That was a very small window that won't open again as long as Dame and CJ are on the team.

We are however one of the only teams that can take on a bad contract via the Trade Exception in a "lopsided trade" despite being over the cap. Spending as much as we want this summer by using the trade exceptions, draft picks, tax-MLE, min contracts, and/or re-signing our 4 free agents and we can use all of those options, which is pretty flexible. If they try to avoid the tax next year then they can't really use any of those options. Last year for example they didn't use their tax-MLE because they were trying to stay under the tax line. However that could have brought a good player in that would've helped if they didn't care about the tax, like Tyreke Evans. I know it sounds completely backwards but there is actually more flexibility for teams being above the luxury tax than below it. Of course being below the salary cap is the best option but there is no possible way to accomplish that.

Oubre would fit into that Plumlee/Nets example Neil kept bringing up in his interview with Jaynes. I believe he has to get paid soon, similar to Plumlee when we traded for him. I’d give our pick for Oubre.

I wonder what Washington’s plan is. Oubre is in line to get paid next summer. He’s a starting caliber wing, but they already have Porter, who while overpaid, is still a superior player. Wizards are already in the tax. Are they really going to commit to matching on Oubre, because there definitely will be another team out there ready to pony up for a young wing. Or will they try and trade Porter? I can’t see them keeping both.

I really like the idea of Blake Griffin that someone else brought up. As a #1 option, no. As a #2 or #3 option with Damian, CJ and Nurk? I love it. He's a great passer. He still plays most of his games. It's a great upgrade for peanuts. It's Paul's money, not mine. We'll be over the cap anyways. I like it very much.

I also wonder if playing with a strong leader, like Dame will keep him in line, or if paying for a player's coach like Stotts will cause him to revert to his previous level of assholeness.

Still, he would give us a legitimate Big 3. In addition to his scoring he's also a very good ball handler and a great passer for his size/position.

Having a big man who can handle the ball and pass like he can would prevent teams from killing our offense at the point of attack by swarming Dame. The guy averaged 6.2 APG in his half season in DET. To put that in perspective, that's almost as many APG as Dame (6.6) and more than C.J. and Turner combined (5.6). And this is from a power forward. That would certainly go a long way toward helping us avoid being last in the league in assists again.

It would also give us that reliable third scoring threat we have been lacking for years.

If you're going to be paying tax anyway, might as well go all in. Injury history and general douchery are the only red flags. Have a team of INDEPENDENT doctors examine his heath records, and if they give him the thumbs up, go for it.

Rome wasn't built in a day. You keep adding pieces that makes the team better but the Pelicans are already beatable as one bad series doesn't define the future either.. In two years the team should be in a better financial place and possibly more flexibility to keep building. Hopefully while we keep building the Rockets and Warriors will be sliding.

Plus, we only have one Evan Turner and we're trading him for Blake Griffin.

I never thought I'd say it, but with all the trades being proposed here, I almost wish we had more than one Evan Turner.
