As this is going to be the season of "When is the Aldridge Trade Happening?" and we've already had about three threads mostly about it, how 'bout we make a single thread? Let's try to keep this on topic and try not to go more than two or three posts without a suggested trade. Unfortunately, TradeMachine no longer works. You can use it, but it just says every single trade works, whether or not it's remotely feasible. Nonetheless, you can use it to compare salaries.
I'm still fixated on a trade that involves Chicago (because of the whole Rose-and-LA-sharing-agents thing, and also that they have the best cost-free assets in the rights to Mirotic and CHA's pick [albeit top 10 protected]) and Houston (because they HAVE to trade Asik now). So I'll kick off with this one:
Portland gives up Lamarcus AND Wesley Matthews and gets:
Asik
Taj Gibson
Kirk Hinrich (why? because he can be played next to both Lillard and CJ, and has shown that he can defend SGs, because that's what he did last year. Plus his contract runs out soon)
One/both of rights to Mirotic, CHA's pick
Chicago gives up Boozer, Gibson, Hinrick, Mirotic/CHA pick and gets:
Aldridge
Wesley
Jeremy Lin
Houston gives up Asik and Lin and gets Boozer
Why the relevant parties do it:
With Chicago it's obvious (although no doubt Denny thinks they don't get enough):
they get an all-star PF, they KEEP Noah, and they get a starter at SG and a backup PG into the bargain! The only barrier to them doing this is that they're cheap. But if Rose makes enough noise, it might force their hand.
With Portland: we get young cheap assets and a guard who will allow Lillard and CJ to play to their strengths.
Houston is probably the team that this makes the least sense for, although in the short term they certainly improve because they add Boozer at their position of most need (who is their current starter at PF? Patterson?) Probably they can do better. BUT: suppose they tell Mo Williams "if you sign with us you're our starter at PG even tho' we can't pay you more than Miami or Memphis" - he's actually ideal for them because he can be to Harden what he was to Lebron, a scorer off the ball. Then, effectively, they improve at two positions (because Mo Williams fits their style better than Lin does).
