And you're being extremely short sighted if you don't see that Lillard has a much higher ceiling than Conley. He's in his second year. At this stage in his career, Conley was horrible. Memphis was trying to dump him for Travis Outlaw (at least that was the rumor.) Seriously, did you look at the stats I linked you?

You're comparing Lillard to a guy who is playing in his seventh season. Of course he's going to be better in some areas.

Conley averaged 10.9 ppg, 4.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and a 14.3 PER.

Dame is averaging 20.9 ppg, 5.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and a 19.1 PER.

Hell, I'll even spot you a few years. I'll compare their stats when Conley was 23 (Dame's age.) He had been in the league four years at this point.

Conley averaged 13.7 ppg, 6.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and a 15.9 PER.

Don't forget that when Conley got his contract it was considered one of the worst extensions in awhile. It was called a franchise "crippler" by quiet a few people.

Not really the case entirely. I pretty much have stopped offering opinions because it instantly turns into an argument.

To me, that is what has changed in the forum over the last several months.

And this thread is one of a million pieces of evidence of that. It's not that difficult to offer reasoned, polite disagreement. But thanks to the anonymity offered by internet forums, people would rather respond on the forum in a manner that more closely matches their inner monologue (the things we all wish we could say) than actual social behavior (the things we would actually say).

I completely agree with most of the people who have eviscerated the OP in this thread. But I don't understand people's need to reply in such a boorish manner.

To be fair, posting "Leonar_" over and over appears to be an obvious over-the-top attempt at eliciting a response, and tells me that the poster who uses such juvenile nicknames isn't really looking to have an honest discussion.

Damnit! I should have used my inner monologue instead of being reasoned. Would have gotten so many more reponses! :MARIS61:

But, you're right.

That's why I get ignored as often as not--not controversial enough. But that's ok; I'd rather be ignored for being respectful than be respected for being an ignoramus.

Yeah, the Kanye effect is huge.

Ya know, instead of getting all crazy about a stupid trade thread, just ignore the damn thing and poof, there goes the thread waaaaay down on the list until its on the 2nd page and gone forever.

That's a reasonable suggestion, but since when did reasonable and Blazer fan go together?

Personally, I think that Denny should institute a "negative rep" button and when a poster's rep power goes below zero, he or she gets an automatic 3 day suspension. ;)

When he plays D, he will get his d

I think that's more than fair. Maybe as a compromise I could give him his d game by game?

My thoughts after reading the thread in its entirety:

HCP - Good to see you posting!

This trade makes Batum have to pick up the scoring A LOT... Conley isn't a legit #2 scorer, so we're going to have a lot of games that ended up like Wednesday night (we're not getting 30+ from our bench every night, and Conley isn't going to offset a bad LMA enough to have a chance to win like Dame could, even with the poor team record when Dame scores 30+.) I understand the want of defense, but I truly believe it's a personnel problem that sits in the seats in suits... not the actual team. Under no circumstances should we trade our future for a middling package of people that most likely won't make us "good enough" to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Do you need great defense in the playoffs? Sure. But you also need 2 legit scorers to make sure you score more than you give up... and the drop off most nights from LA to Batum is not going to counteract the defense that you want.

Patience is a virtue.

Thank you for a legit reply repped

The people who stopped posting are the same people who were screaming out our record any time someone offered a criticism of the team. Now those same people have suddenly disappeared while the team isn't doing so well. It's interesting because it was the opposite when the team was doing very well. The trolls "sky is falling" trolls disappeared when the team was on an 11 game win streak. From this I can draw the conclusion that the "haters" don't want to post when the team is doing well, and the "homers" don't want to post when the team is doing poorly.

Bingo!

As for the OP, I would hazard a guess he was using hyperbole to make 2 points. First, the team needs to get better on defense. Second, Blazer fans over-value our players. Dame-for-Conley is silly...but if I proposed Mo or CJ for Conley, I would get the same reaction!

Personally, I would sacrifice any individual player to make the *team* better.

If I could get Conley for either of those players, I would do it in a heartbeat. Of course, I'd probably turn around and deal him for something else, but I would still do the deal.

I call bull on that. Nobody is turning down mo for Conley and being serious. Same with cj.

There have been all kinds of suggestions for trading MO, CJ and Nic without getting this type of reaction.

The funniest part is the title says this is a trade Blazers "need" to make . . . because if they don't make this trade, as KS would say, it's over!

We "need" to stop losing games

I call bullshit too. I would love to have Conley on this team. And based on the Mo bashing threads I am guessing most of us would carry him to Memphis on our backs in that scenario.

This whole crack on Blazers fans over valuing their players is getting old. How many Blazer fans wanted to trade LMA for shit? A lot. It goes both ways. People over value other teams players as well. Can you say Ramon Sessions (who is now on his 26th team in 3 years)

I think for the most part we are all pretty logical.

I would still take Sessions as a backup.

That was back when he was with Milwaukee the first time, right?

I dunno any more. Seems like it had been basically until we drafted lillard. More just people desperate for anything different, which I get
