Game Thread Oregon Ducks at Oregon State Beavers in Civil War 2016, 1pm

It's not Helfrich's coaching that gets him fired, it's his recruiting.

I can't recall such dismal recruiting after a Heisman trophy.

As far as Helfrich, it's just a matter of if a better opportunity comes along. If Kelly for example gets fired, Ducks might want to bring him back.

The Ducks weren't there talent wise this year. Not sure if Helfrich is a bad coach. I mean, by all reports, he's at least good with the offense. Ducks might need to look elsewhere for defense.

They really need to start looking at big linemen and defensive players from Texas and the South and stop recruiting qtr backs and track stars from California...Helfrich made some really really stupid 2pt conversion attempts and 4th and long blunders

It comes down to what Uncle Phil wants. If he wants Hellfish gone the O will fire him. Oregon isn't going to piss off the most golden of golden gooses.
They'll do what they're going to do, but it sure doesn't help any football team to lose 5 DTs in one season. The DTs they finished the year with consisted of 2 Freshman and a converted OLineman & right up the middle is where the Beavs took it to them. Offensively they lost their best OLineman (Crosby) in the first game and went with starting 4 Freshman for the rest of the season. As they say it all starts at the lines. Oregon's luck with injuries this season would have been tough for any coach to overcome.

Didn't the Beavers lose 40 starters this season? Seems like they overcame it today.

they look at Big lineman from Texas and the South every year, but like most kids those they wine and dine would rather stay close to Mama. Imagine being 6'5 310 and flying coach on your own dime from Texas to Portland and then catching a shuttle plane to Eugene.

By my count 40 is a lot more starters then any team has. Honestly I've little idea of their situation, but how was their injuries/depth chart doing today?

What an Embarrassing year for the Ducks. Just lost to a rebuilding team. So I guess this means their rebuilding too. :)

If a starter gets hurt, the backup becomes the starter, if the former backup/now starter gets hurt then the backup of the backup becomes the starter. If that dude gets hurt then that would be 3 starters hurt for one position.

did he maybe mean 40 games lost? Kind of like if you lose 3 starters for 10 games (in the nba, lets say), it's counted as 30 games lost to injuries?

so by your tallying, how many games does losing Crosby game one count for?

on a different numbers count, I'm pretty sure it's been a while since Oregon started 8 Freshman in a Civil War.

It's not just recruiting. He doesn't command the respect of the team. I saw it in his first season as head coach. Some of the comments made by the stars after losing to Stanford were downright embarrassing, and I don't think that ever would have happened under Chip.

Should of Never let Chris Peterson go to UW.

Fine, I agree. Oregon would have been a great team if it weren't for all of those injuries.

When you factor in strength of injuries into the rankings we should be the #2 team just behind Alabama. We're going to the playoffs!

are you having a bad day Sly? I didn't say Oregon would have been great without injuries, I said this was an especially injury filled year which may or may not be taken into consideration by those in charge of the program when evaluating Helfrich. Weren't you just chastising someone else for misrepresenting what you'd posted? You threw out some random figures regarding Beaver injuries that confused me so I asked for clarification. Is there some reason you won't answer a simple politely asked question?

What question did you want me to answer?

by your tallying of starters missing games where the Beavs had 40, how many games does losing Crosby game one count for? I'm just looking for context of what the 40 represents.

He did explain it. If they lost Crosby since game 1 it would be...11? If they lost his backup for any of those games, it tacts on, and so on and so on.

I thought I had heard 40, when I texted Big Suke he told me 24.

You're the one who started using injuries as an excuse. I was just pointing out the Beavers have also been hit hard by injuries.
