Brandon has had multiple arthroscopies and (I assume partial menisectomies) within the last few years. All the press releases did not refer to problems with the cartilage back then. However, accelerated cartilage wear can be expected with less menisci to provide shock absorption in the knee. And here is another issue. We don’t know how much menisci remain in both knees and which ones were debrided. The lateral meniscus carries most of the load in the lateral compartment. The medial meniscus shares more of the load with the articular cartilage. This is why lateral menisectomy accelerates degeneration more so than a medial menisectomy. Also, if more than 50% of the meniscus remains, it is still mostly functional.
So my final point is this. We (and I mean us fans) don’t have enough information to truly know exactly what is going on in Brandon’s knee. However, I do know enough to know that if Brandon indeed have "bone-on-bone" in his knee, he would not be playing and would either be booked for surgery or contemplating medical retirement (e.g. Darius Miles).
So Roy was wrong when he said his knee's are bone on bone?
Possibly. The doctor merely says that it's unlikely that it's really "bone on bone".
The part that keeps coming back to me is that specialist in LA saying that surgery wouldn't be much help because there doesn't appear to be much to operate on ... that sure sounds like Bone-on-bone, but maybe I'm reading that wrong.

I think its fans speculating a lot and attributing the source of their own opinions to Brandon himself.
According to my surgeon, everyone is right. he told me that there is probably nothing to operate on, so he is right in saying that surgery isn't an option because there is nothing to operate on. However, the one way to "help" the knee long term is MF surgery. This either could, or could not have been mentioned to Brandon by that Dr.
Yet we have first-hand reports from Roy that the LA doctor said that MF wouldn't help his knees.
I'm not sure this changes anything. The fact remains that Brandon Roy has a very painful knee condition that limits his effectiveness on the court. I commented on his less-than-100% effort in the pre-season (for which I was blasted) and it's become obvious that he is not the same player now that the regular season is underway.
Medical explanations are helpful, but I suspect that this knee condition will never go away, and that Roy will have to adjust his play accordingly. That means less cutting, driving, jumping, twisting, and more set-up jump shots. He may make this transition successfully, but we've already seen what a radically different player he is this season.

How often do you talk to your surgeon? Or do you have him on speed dial?
And all you and the other geniuses around here said was Brandon is fine, there's nothing to be concerned about, just wait until the season starts, yada yada yada.Quit acting like you knew all along that something was wrong with him. The purpose behind your thread in the preseason was to say that Brandon didn't play with any "heart" and was half-assing it. That players should care more in the preseason, yada yada yada.
Nope. What I knew all along was that he wasn't giving a full effort, and now we know why.Now that we find out that he has a knee injury you act like you knew all along.
He is from Medford, so we struck up a friendship since we both live in the same neighborhood, and both are Oregon transplants.
Don't be an idiot. This is beneath you, whoever you are. Obviously, no one would tell Roy to play harder if we knew he had an injury. The point is, I thought his "disappearing act" during the pre-season was cause for concern, and most people here thought it meant nothing. So really, what you wanted was him, on a bad knee, to push himself even harder against it, and maybe do more damage? In meaningless games. Noted.

I tried become friends with my surgeon, we struck up a conversation about baseball because he found out I was a fan. I also found out he's a huge fan of porsches, as am I. Nonetheless, I couldn't get his personal number and doesn't want to hang out, I'm just a client. I'm just another number in one of his countless surgeries.
He did prescribe me some good vicodin though. So he's a buddy in my book.
My surgeon lives 5 houses down from me and on the other side of the street. He was my neighbor before he was my Dr. He's a good guy, but his wife is a total bitch.
As per usual, you were engaging in soapbox moralizing. It just blew up in your face, is all.
Well, if his disappearing act was caused by the knee problem, and he would have been playing harder if he could, then that means he disagrees with you and every other genius who thinks it's not important to play hard during the preseason. You were applauding him for "disappearing," when in fact he didn't want to disappear at all!You thought his "disappearing act" meant he had no heart and was pathetic.
