OT: Baseball coming to Portland in the near future (AGAIN?)

It's because people really want baseball. This doubles as a petition. I'll fudge the numbers later.

I'd love to have a baseball stadium sitting right where the Memorial Coliseum is located. And for baseball to come to Portland. But don't see it happening and haven't seen any recent discussion of it.

I know. The colusieum is the JV arena now... It's like the Rose Garden is the Basketball and Football programs of a big time school... they get all the money and they just throw a few scheckles to the Coluseium to keep it up.... no... lets get a new sport here!

There was an ample chance to crack on OSU here, but you failed.

I decided to be an equal opprotunist Divison I school basher on this.

Feel free to pick up my slack on it, though.

I'm no good at being critical of the Beavers/OSU, because I'm a Beaver fan. That in itself is punishment enough for me.

College level ball is great in Oregon as is. Portland should get a world class fast pitch softball franchise. Eugene has the Ems, {farm club for the Padres}

If Portland gets another college level team it will be the biggest joke in town. I love the Blazers but I'm sick of having just the Blazers as the only pro team to root for.

people talk about fucking hcps wife, not mags

GETYOURSHITTOGETHER

Baseball didn't leave Portland because of a liberal conspiracy. It left because ticket sales were shit. I don't see how an MLB team will support that.

To be fair, the sales weren't great because AAA is small potatoes.

MLB is a totally different beast. The sales wouldn't be a problem.

bullshit. Baseball is a dying sport. http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303843104579167812218839786

The average World Series viewer this year is 54.4 years old, according to Nielsen, the media research firm. The trend line is heading north: The average age was 49.9 in 2009. Kids age 6 to 17 represented just 4.3% of the average audience for the American and National League Championship Series this year, compared with 7.4% a decade ago.

Comparisons with the NFL are pointless. That behemoth of North American sports dominates nearly every demographic. But kids make up a larger segment of the television audiences for the NBA, NHL and even soccer's English Premier League than they do for baseball.

Kids accounted for 9.4% of the NBA conference finals audience this year, compared with 10.6% a decade ago. They represented 9% of the NHL conference-finals audience in the spring. For Premier League soccer on the NBC Sports Network, kids are accounting for 11% of the audience.

This. AAA can't be a niche sport like the MLS. MLS really isn't the "minor league" of anything, while AAA has that stigma.

Okay Fez and Strenuus, how many baseball games have you guys been to in your lifetime that were not High School or College?

Lets see.... At least 100. You got to understand, baseball is my first love. I at least went to 100 when the AAA team was here the last time... You could go for $5 bucks and sit anywhere in the upper section... it was a steal. Now with the Hops in the first couple of seasons I've gone to at least 10. + the 4 game package I bought for this year (and probably going to one or two more as well)... So.

With MLB... I've been to probably a dozen games up in Seattle... a few in Anahiem, Denver, etc.
