I'm a lil surprised Allen hasn't done this same thing. I know the Blazers use Apple Ipad's to teach and instruct it's players.

Steve Ballmer Set to Banish Apple Devices at Clippers

Former Microsoft CEO and new Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer proved he's still extremely loyal to his old company Thursday, when he revealed in an interview that the NBA team will "probably" have to get rid of its iPads.

"Most of the Clippers are on Windows, some of the players and coaches are not," Ballmer told Reuters. He added that Clippers coach Doc Rivers "kind of knows that’s a project":

"It's one of the first things he said to me: 'We are probably going to get rid of these iPads, aren’t we?' And I said, 'Yeah, we probably are.' But I promised we would do it during the off season."

Exactly how far the Apple sentiment extends, we don't yet know — but it's not likely that Clippers stars such as Chris Paul or Blake Griffin would have to turn in their iPhones any time soon.

If the Clippers coaching staff uses iPads on the sidelines to look at replays and strategize, however, those could well be an endangered species, set to be replaced by Microsoft Surface tablets, which Ballmer introduced towards the end of his tenure at Microsoft.

Ballmer is such a loyalist, according to Reuters, that he's banned his family from using iPhones.

The NBA isn't the only sports battleground in the war between iPad and Surface tablets. Microsoft struck a multiyear deal with the NFL this season, one that provided all teams with Surfaces at an estimated cost of $400 million.

But that didn't stop football announcers from calling the devices iPads every time they pop up on camera, as the LA Times pointed out.

Should that kind of commentary mistake happen during a Clippers game in the new Surface era, don't be surprised to see Ballmer turn his ire on ESPN.

Hahahaha, could you actually imagine telling Blake Griffin he can't use his iPhone anymore. He'd probably demand a trade right then and there.

So Steve wouldn't let me do this on his plane?#MacLifeFAMS

I understand the organizational shift; he is the leader/owner of the org after all, but DAMN making his family do it too? Fucking-a; get a life dude they can live theirs freely. Windows phones fucking suck, and so does your new shitty Windows 8/8.1 OS. People like Iphone and Android because they work, and tile-based screens suck! What's the deal with animated gif's annoyingly shitting up my screen.

ok rant off, lol.

Right on, Blue. Fuck Windows 8. Seriously.

Allen probably wants his team to use the best available. Fatal flaw on Ballmer's part. Can't let your emotions get involved, sheesh.

I've been using Windows 8.1 for 3 months now and I haven't had a single problem. Not sure what Windows 8.0 was like but 8.1 is fine.

The Blazers should hire some 13 year old to hack the LAC tablets whenever we play them. Heck - just give the kid a free seat behind the Blazers bench and he can feed them all of the Clipper's plays all game long!

Windows 8 is great with a touchscreen, without that it sucks pretty hard. Haven't played with the windows phones, but if I was the CEO of microsoft Id lay the ban hammer down on my family also, no matter how crappy the phones were.

The NFL portion of the story is pretty damn funny though.

Windows phone 8.1 is pretty neat. Cortana is great - it is a nice combination of Siri's playfulness with Google Now's usefulness. As an OS, I would still say that iOS and Android are better than Windows Phone 8.1 - but Cortana is great, the UI is fantastic and if you have a Nokia 1020 - the camera is as good as it gets.

I have a Moto X, a Lumia 1020 and an iPhone 5 (we write software for them all). The one I happen to take the most is the Lumia. Mostly because of the camera, but still.

The reason Allen doesn't "banish" is because he knows the windows devices suck balls

Surface Pro 3 is pretty legit. Been using it for a couple of months. I'm not a hardcore user, but it does everything I need (I'm more of an Office/business type than an app type, so I'm unqualified on that front) in a way better form factor than my old laptop

Every Apple and Windows topic is the same, lol. No different from console wars.

I need useful programs not shitty apps on my computer.

I'm sure Windows 8 is fine -- for a phone.

Here's my gripe, Windows 8 Adopters:

I know the OS works, with a touch device. The biggest issue I have is them forcing that shitty "metro" style interface down to the corporate OS structure, for Desktops/Workstations, etc. It's a complete shitpile to work on without touch.

Then, on top of that, they give you stupid annoying animated .gif-like "tiles" to irritate you while you stare at this screen of rainbow colored squares.

Like seriously, its a fisher price square button menu. What gives? The email tile is a picture of a animated envelope or the stocks are a picture of an animated chart, like seriously no shit? It's just not needed, it just feels dumbed-down. I don't need sample pictures/animations to remind me what things do. So with that said, why do you need the tile interface? It reminds me of someone with a thousand icons on their desktop. LOL

Windows 8 touch or non-touch = Too much clutter, to much bloat on the main interface. Keep. it. simple. stupid.

I'm right there with you Blue. When I got my new computer (non touch screen) with that fucked up seizure-inducing, app sucking (P)OS, I came damn close to bashing it into a thousand pieces. The most frustrating was opening an image from an email, then trying to print or save it (you can't), or even close the damn "app". My next computer will not be Windows based unless they change that shit.

"Entertaining yourself" on the company bed while streaming porn on your MacBook and talking to hottiegirls.com on your iPone?? I suppose he might have a problem with that.

Windows 8 is the worst OS since Win ME. I've never thought of an Apple product for computing before but I'm going to give it serious consideration when I get my new lap top in a few weeks.

Best of both worlds, I've got a Macbook Air and run windows 7 via virtualization software. Was hardcore PC but will never go back.

My step-dad just did the same thing. I'm still shocked that he bought an Apple product. But now I get emails all the time from him going on and on about how great his MBA is!

^ THE NBA IS GREAT!

Here here!
/cheers!

I used to run an MBA with VMWare Fusion on it for Windows VMs. It is a great computer with the exception of the screen which is maybe great for 2010 - but is hopelessly outdated in 2013 and later. I now use a Yoga Pro 2 - and it is everything that the MBA was, but with a much much nicer screen. I do not miss the MBA one bit, to be honest.

"The NBA isn't the only sports battleground in the war between iPad and Surface tablets. "

Bwahahaha. Somebody better let Apple know they are at war with Surface. Sorry, but when one product is outselling the other by like a million to one, it can hardly be called a war. A massacre perhaps, but not a war.

Lmao exactly! Now if it was Apple vs Android; that's an entirely different story.

The only thing more amusing than Timberwolves fans thinking they have a rivalry with the Blazers is Microsoft thinking they have a rivalry with Apple.

In the end, its where Allen made his billions. Shouldn't there be a certain devotion to it?

I don't know, maybe I'm way off
