Percy Harvin traded to Seattle

You not big into FB - that explains it.
Research/surveys have proven that the Seahawks are the most popular team in Portland. I've seen the results, by legit research/marketing firms.

I would wager that the Blazers are the most popular team in Portland :devilwink:

I'd like to see this research. Not saying it doesn't exist. But I'd be shocked. Unless it's like 18% Seattle. Then the remaining 82% scattered among all of the other teams.

It's the snooty attitude. The "we're better than you" way of thinking. Calling us their little brother, or saying we're a smaller Seattle is just exactly the kind of reason why I don't like the people up there. The assumption that we should follow their teams because they're closer is equally annoying. Here are all our crappy teams, and you get nothing else.

No one is calling you little brother. Or more importantly, no one is calling Portland Seattle's little brother. It's the way of thinking by some (just some) that is little brotherish. When I lived in Seattle I never heard any hate for Portland. There was some UO hate (I was at UW), but even then it was nothing like what I hear going the other way. It seems like anytime Seattle is brought up in conversations (both here and just in general in Portland), there is always a vocal minority trying to one up Seattle. Have you been to Vivace? Oh, Stumptown is better! The winters in Portland suck! But it's so much worse in Seattle! (I have heard this numerous times).

Like I said, I personally like Portland more, but I can see that in some (you may or may not actually fit, but your statements seems to lump you in) just can't accept any favorable mention of Seattle without interjecting something about Portland being better.

About your "Seattle fans" generalization, can a WSU fan root for the Seahawks/M's/Sounders? They are part of the Seattle fan base that WSU fans must hate since it includes those hated Huskies.

As a Beavers fan I did not have the same amount of disdain. So there may be the rub. In fact, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Therefore, Seattle football's just fine by me. :)

See, I like UO and OSU. They're part of my state. But I never went to either school (at least not to study). So it's easy for me to like both.

Zybot did pretty much. Not in exact words, but close enough.

Zybot

LOL.

Yeah, I didn't even argue on that point. I think it was a slip on his part to not distinguish as the most popular NFL team. Because there's no way the Seahawks are more popular in Portland than the Blazers.

All I originally posted was that I don't understand how someone from Portland could support a team from Seattle.

You are the one who first mentioned the "little brother syndrome". This has nothing to do with one-upping. The two cities have a long and storied rivalry (they were literally founded in the same year), not just economically and politically, but with the Blazers and Sonics, as well as the Ducks and Huskies. There is some bad blood there. I couldn't care less about the city. I do not like the fans. I don't like Seahawks fans, I don't like Huskies fans.... I probably wouldn't like Mariners fans either, but I don't think there are any.

And to answer your other question, WSU is in Washington. Portland is in Oregon. They are free to support whomever they like, but I think the fact that we are in two separate states changes things a little, don't you?

Oh I'm sure Beerboy was talking about Niners/Seahawks, but I was still going to bust his balls for it.

How does it make you feel that there are Seahawks fans that are Blazer fans. Probably better quit rooting for the Blazers. You wouldn't want to be seen with those riff raff Seahawks fans would you?

But you're a Niners fan? They're in CA.

Oh I'm sure Beerboy was talking about Niners/Seahawks, but I was still going to bust his balls for it.

I'd also like to see these alleged stats dating back to before the Seahawks were relevant. I'm pretty sure they was likely a bandwagon migration when the Seahawks became decent.

He asked if WSU fans should hate the Seahawks/Mariners because they hate the Huskies. I'm merely stating that Wazzu is still in Washington. We are in Oregon. We don't have a pro football or pro baseball team, which frees us up to support whichever team we choose. I chose not to like the Seahawks because

A) They're shoved down our throats

B) They come from a city where I generally dislike the fans

C) Because fuck them.... that's why.

I think we can agree Oregonians hate Californians more than people from Washington.

This is all stupid anyway, who cares if someone in Portland likes the Seahawks or niners or raiders etc

What about Oregonians who went to UW and now live in California. I'm pretty sure I'm the devil to some on this board!

Agreed on all accounts.

Naw. I hate SoCal and Washington equally. I don't hate Northern Cal. I don't even hate SoCal - I just hate the shitty, fast, out-of-control drivers, immigrants, and the pollution. Oh, and the Lakers.

Sure, there are outliers, but I hear a lot of Oregonians talking about those damn Californians ruining Oregon by moving here

Get with the times.... now it's those damn east coasters who are ruining Oregon by moving here.

At least Californians are from the west coast.

That's more a volume thing. I don't think there are droves of Washingtonians moving down to Portland like there are Californians. Plus, as much as some on here would hate to admit it, someone moving from Seattle probably won't get noticed as a non native Oregonian as easily as someone from California.

Inaccurate as it may be, I've always perceived Seattle as similar to Portland, but not wanting to be. I think the Portland disdain for Seattle is similar to the hipster disdain for those who emulate pop culture. Portland is weird and knows it and embraces it. Seattle is similarly weird, but wants to be corporate. Therefore, Portland resents Seattle for not embracing its true identity, for trying too hard to be mainstream.

It's everyone moving here. I heard on the news recently that DC and Portland are the two metro areas that more people are migrating to than any other metro areas in the country. Or something along those lines.

hope this injury doesnt effect his speed too much, he was always a great KR

Didnt like the move then but glad they are getting what they can for a player they do not need.

I liked the move then, though it came with red flags. If Carroll, Lynch and RW3 (and a RING!) can't find a way to get him out of the me-firstness, then I'm with CF...a potentially-high 2nd is a decent recap of the sunk costs. Plus, doesn't it open up about 12M in cap room?

They went for it when they traded for him. They felt he was the final piece to bring Seattle it's first Super Bowl title. And in the big game he paid off and if I had to bet made the trade and contract extension worth it in the eyes Paul Allen. The rest is history. He did and brought what he was supposed to do and bring. I agree with you he didn't fit and wasn't needed. I think Harvin was more about Allen than Schneider and Carroll. If it was up to these two, they prob wouldn't have brought him in.

Not for sure the cap numbers but it should help resign Wilson.
