Phil Jackson...President?

all he'd have to do is ask to see their nba rings

Shaq could ask too, but I would not want him either. Certainly Jordan has proved that point. Jackson is an arrogant prick. One that has a shit load of money and has no reason to work hard. I think he would mail it in.

Well, Shaq wasn't a coach for almost 20 years, and neither was Jordan. That kind of makes a difference.

Yeah you are right it makes a difference. But in Phil's case not enough. Can you really see him willing to work hard? Willing to live in Portland year round? A guy who couldn't even show Jerry West respect when Jerry was his boss? I would put him in the "no way in hell" category as being good at this job. Let alone putting up with PA.

Please splain ...

Because it would bring credibility to the franchise. Fans, players, businesses would see that they're bringing in someone who has the past record of a winner.

Very much like the Big Tuna.

His name alone would sell tickets. He has a close friend who is working in a similar position working with a different team making a huge amount of money for that organization. It would not surprise me at all if he used that friend as an advisor. Also, give the man credit he is highly intelligent. You don't do what he does and not not intelligent. I think he would learn the job fairly quickly.

Phil Jackson kissing sponsors asses to get them to renew their box suites. Personally I can not see it.

No one would suggest he is not smart. The problem is he is too smart for this job. Really smart people often are very arrogant. It is hard for them to put up with people who are not smart. He and Olshey would get along though, because of Neil's experience in a soap opera.

I don't see it.

Do people buy tickets to see Phil Jackson sit next to Paul Allen? Does Phil Jackson's presence increase the business base in Portland (where sponsorship revenue comes from)? Does Phil Jackson lead to a lucrative TV contract?

The Portland market is what it is, adding a "name" doesn't change the fundamentals of the available revenue streams.

Well, I disagree Nico. I think he would boost revenues tremendously.

Jackson adds cred, he could be a big influence in who comes here as a coach, as well as future players

All y'all are getting way too carried away with his name factor.

Portland doesn't magically become a better free agent destination just because they have a HOF coach in their front office.

I just don't see Jackson as President material. I could picture him as GM/assistant coach to Brian Shaw I've hard suggested. Sounds like he wants cushy basketball job to me. He'd just be getting in Olshey's way if he was named president, and that would suck. I like what Olshey is doing right now.

phil jackson recruiting a free agent would work better than most others

there really is no better way for portland to attract a free agent....phil fucking jackson? go get bill russell as a big man coach while your at it

I could be wrong but my understanding is that Phil Jackson is not well liked. Respected as a coach...yes. But not liked. So I do not see how he would attract coaches or players to Portland.

Thirteen rings.

I find it hard to believe that Jackson wants anything to do with Portland, considering his general disdain for Portland and rain after a Laker loss in Portland. How do you hire a guy who's publically talked shit about Portland for so many years? I'd really like to see PA take a pass on Jackson. Let Olshey do his thing with this team and build it right, not having to worry about another ego above him to deal with IMO.

Phil's always been an amateur satirist.
