From the article, they talked about the playmaker being 2 years older or younger that they want to offer a pick and swallowing a huge contract. I was looking around and I don't know many "playmakers" that fit that description besides:

Rondo: Most likely would have to take on Paul Pierce's contract. Although, if we win the #4 pick from Jersey, I can see them doing a straight up trade for Rondo.

Landry: He has a great cheap contract, so I doubt he's available.

Joe Johnson: I think he's 32, so I don't think a player like him is what we want.
Stucky: Doubt Pistons trade him though.

Collisions: Pacers are doing great. I doubt they even think about trading him.

Monta Ellis: Milwaukee just maybe stupid enough to trade him. They may think it's either Ellis or Jennings.

Jennings: Milwaukee could do this one if they think Monta can take over the PG spot

Wall: But hey who we kidding? They have a pretty damn good chance of winning the lotto and Wall, #1 pick and Nene looks like a good thing to build around.

Kevin Martin: This actually looks like a player that Houston would consider giving up.

Mike Conley Jr.: I think we could possibly get him, since he's a 4 year deal and if Memphis doesn't make the playoffs.

Eric Gordon: I think he's a restricted free agent, so it would be a sign and trade

R. Westbrook: This looks intriguing to me. I think if OKC doesn't do well in the playoffs, he maybe trade bait. They have their playmaking SG in Durant and a damn good secondary in Harden. If we had the #4 pick, they may want it because they would have a inside scorer; which is what I think they truly need.

Tyreke Evans: Sacramento would probably want to keep him, but they have way too many playmaker-types. He's probably the most valuable though. Althought I Thomas is doing pretty damn good and getting the #4-#8 pick might entice them to give us Evans.

J. Fredette: This is a good player for our shooting issues, but not worth a top 10 pick. If our pick is above 14, I would do it.

Devin Harris: I think Utah would give him up.

what article are you talking about?

http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/i...ised_to_take_advantage_of_new_cba_to_add.html

"I feel like that's what we need on this team to take the next step," interim general manager Chad Buchanan said. "We need another high-caliber, top-30 player in the league, preferably in the backcourt, with LaMarcus, who we already have in the frontcourt."

"You'd prefer somebody to fit your timeline, with your roster," Buchanan sad. "Ideally, you'd get a guy who's just entering his prime, like LaMarcus is. But you're not going to be picky with a guy who's a little bit older. You don't want a guy at the end of his career."

Mags,

I love that quote from Chad. It says that we don't currently have that guy, and you know Felton wants to be that guy. Reading between the lines, considering the FA PG's (there are a lot of less expensive PG's that I would prefer over Felton and would cost less), seeing the guys we currently have on our roster....... I read that quote yesterday as "See ya, Felton."

This is our best hope, I think.

Landry: He has a great cheap contract, so I doubt he's available.

Who?

Joe Johnson: I think he's 32, so I don't think a player like him is what we want.

No indeed.

Stucky: Doubt Pistons trade him though.

Actually, they probably wouldn't mind. He's a tweener. They're starting 2 tweeners. I don't think we want him.

Collisions: Pacers are doing great. I doubt they even think about trading him.

Um, I bet they would. He's very middling.

Monta Ellis: Milwaukee just maybe stupid enough to trade him. They may think it's either Ellis or Jennings.

What is the infatuation with Ellis? He's the destitute man's Allen Iverson. You have to build your entire team around him for him to be effective, and he ain't good enough.

Jennings: Milwaukee could do this one if they think Monta can take over the PG spot

I kind of like Jennings. He can be a real defensive nuisance and he can go off, and he's got genuine PG skills. But then again, he's a low-40s shooter at best, he weighs about what I did when I was 16 (and I've never been fat), and he can forget he has teammates. He really is so similar to Nick Van Exel it's scary. I think we should pass.

Wall: But hey who we kidding? They have a pretty damn good chance of winning the lotto and Wall, #1 pick and Nene looks like a good thing to build around.

They're going to give it a couple more years before they give up on him. Kind of like Sacramento with Tyreke Evans.

Kevin Martin: This actually looks like a player that Houston would consider giving up.

For good reason. The same reason we should steer WELL clear of him. He's not even getting minutes on a team struggling to make the playoffs.

Mike Conley Jr.: I think we could possibly get him, since he's a 4 year deal and if Memphis doesn't make the playoffs.

Remember when our main reason for wanting him was that he'd keep Greg happy? Long thought of as a bust at #5 (hello Raymond Felton!), he has actually turned into the heart and soul of that team. He's one of the best defensive PGs and they've wisely committed to him. I'd like to get him, but they need him too much.

Eric Gordon: I think he's a restricted free agent, so it would be a sign and trade

Short, injury-prone, pouty SG? Meh.

First, Durant hasn't been a SG since his coach was PJ Carlesimo.
Second, OKC is very loyal to "their" guys, and many people see Westbrook as up there with Derek Rose. If they were going to trade him, it should have been for Chris Paul. But they're not going to trade him, and certainly not for anything less than both our picks and Aldridge. I think we have to wait and go after Harden.

Tyreke Evans: Sacramento would probably want to keep him, but they have way too many playmaker-types. He's probably the most valuable though. Althought I Thomas is doing pretty damn good and getting the #4-#8 pick might entice them to give us Evans.

I hate Evans's game. Hate it. Calling him a PG is like calling a black hole a sun. If the game was one-on-one, he'd be great. It isn't, so he's a cancer. Plus he looks like he has a terrible attitude.

J. Fredette: This is a good player for our shooting issues, but not worth a top 10 pick. If our pick is above 14, I would do it.

Are you insane?

Devin Harris: I think Utah would give him up.

Um, I would say so. I would hope we can do better at this point.

You didn't mention Kyle Lowry, but the Rockets ridiculously overvalue their players (they wouldn't trade him for Pau Gasol). I like the way Goran Dragic plays, but he's not quite good enough.

Basically, it's Rondo or bust, I think.

Seeing that list really depresses me. Half those guys only make plays for themselves. I don't see one on there that I could get excited about. Rondo, maybe, but the cost would be too high.

is Tony Parker too old?

he turns 30 May 15, Spurs could decide to blow er up

I'm thinking the same thing. I have an idea that Portland and Ainge already talked about this. I bet Ainge gave them a pick range (Jerseys) that they would be willing to trade Rondo for. I suspect it's 4-6. Anything later, than I bet it would require the pick and taking on Paul Pierce's contract. I'd still do it, if that were the case.

What do you think is "Giving too much for Rondo?"

you keep saying this, paul pierce is still a 19 PER player, a lifetime celtic, and hardly a salary dump. he only has 2 more years at 15/16 million he would be the one player they could actually keep after rondo

if the cost of acquiring rondo is taking back paul pierce, you do it immediately, we could swing pierce to a contender for a couple #1s no problem

If they trade Rondo it's a total rebuild IMO, I would think they would trade PP as well.

George Hill. He's a lot like Nic, and is about to burst out onto the scene. Indy loves him, but if they throw big $ at Gordon, we can possibly steal Hill with a decent offer. And he can play PG in stretches.

I don't see anything in that quote that says that the Blazers are saying that they must have an All-Star PG. The first criterion is that the guy has to be a top-30 player. The second is that they would prefer that he be in the backcourt since they already have LA as a dominant player in the frontcourt. The last criterion is that they prefer someone who is about the same age as LA. A lot of teams contend for a title without a dominant PG. The Lakers and Bulls made a feast of winning without a dominant PG, but with having top-level talent at the 2G spot. The Heat are certainly top contenders this year without having a dominant PG. If the Blazers can find a 2G at an All-Star level, they can be contenders even with Felton (gasp) at the PG spot, as long as he plays the way he's playing right now.

I'd be OK with Hill ... pair him with Nic, LA and two 10-4 lottery picks (hopefully) and I think this team can give itself a real chance.

Think about it like this. What if you are Boston, and let's say @ 34 mil under cap. They want to resign "Jeff Green" ironically a SF, which is going to cost about 8-9 mil per. That puts you @ 43 mil (17 mil under cap). Then you have an opportunity to get a decent first rounder (maybe 10th-14th) of your own. You have an opportunity to get another 2 top 15 picks (maybe #4-#6 from Jersey and 10-14# from Blazers) for an additional 25 mil dump (and TPE mind you).

You have an opportunity to give 1 max deal to throw at D Will (Which I doubt he takes), if that doesn't work sign KG and Ray Allen for a smaller contract (Total of 20 mil), then offer Steve Nash a 12 mil per. Then make your picks on draft day (3 very good ones mind you) and after that happens, use the TPE to make a lop sided deal for the player you need.

So they can have 2 good young players, maybe a good younger player (pick and TPE), Garnett, Ray Allen and Steve Nash. You have a nice 3 year window with Nash, Garnett and Allen to stay competitive while the younger players learn the game. It's a damn good rebuild if you ask me.

They want a SG or PG, but must be a playmaker.

dude, i want what youre having

so you are saying garnett, allen, and nash all sign up to play with a bunch of rookies, after they trade pierce in a salary dump lol? or are you saying that jeff green (really?) +nash is better than rondo + pierce?

wait, they are concerned with dumping pierce so they can give jeff green 9 million a year???

like i said, if they wanted to trade him, they could get back value, not just dump him for nothing

I guess we'll see buddy. ;)

And FYI, What if they get #4 pick and the #14th pick from Portland for Rondo? You think there are others better?

Hill is another combo guard

So buy a late teens pick and draft Kendall Marshall ... If this team wants a real point guard it's going to be very, very tough (read: expensive in terms of assets) to get one.

not sure i get the question but others better? like better offers for rondo? not likely, #4 alone might do it. and PP is prolly worth the #14 at least

due an extension, and with contracts already out to Westbrook, Durant and Perkins, I'd offer the pick up to OKC for Harden. It's unlikely, but if they can add a PF prospect or a big, it might be more valuable to them long term.

I'd love to add Harden to this team ... but it's never going to happen via trade.

I just don't think Spurs will give him up. They seem really loyal to their players.
Supposedly they were ready to trade him last year for Batum if we were willing to take on Jefferson's contract. We weren't. Since then parker seemed to get back some of his old mojo and jefferson has one less year on his contract. But Parker and Duncan Ginobli are all a year older. I think we could get a deal done.

Nobody is talking about Deron Williams: I don't think people should assume that he has made up his mind about Dallas. We just have to show him we have a better, younger core than Dallas, which requires getting somebody good with those draft picks we might have, either by trying to move up in the draft or trading for another piece.

I find that really hard to believe, but if we have a shot at Parker, we should have done that all day and anyway

maybe not. But Presti has to know they can not afford extensions for Harden AND Ibaka, and theey can run risk of losing him for nothing to a big RFA offer. By the time #4 pick is due extension, Perkins will come off.
