SB - what's ya price point on bottles? I know prices on quality Swiss Pinot. Y'all can afford to drink more than swill.

Where will you be staying during this point of looking for wine? Are you looking for tastings and/or tour of wine country? Lotta different options and experiences. But don't settle for less than you want because it's all available.

My price point is between 20 dollars and 40 dollars depending on the quality of the bottle of course. With the travel that could be a bit tricky i prefer not to go above 40/50 dollars. I am looking for tastings but not especially wine tours. If you tell me there is a wineyard that i can't miss that has bottles at around 60/70, I can make an exception by trusting you.
 
by the way tomorrow I sleep at Hood River travelling from Hermington and will travel the Fruit Loop road if there is any spot I shouldn't miss on the way.

From Hood River you have two ways into Portland.

1. Continue down the gorge but YOU HAVE TO STOP AT MULTNOMAH FALLS AND HIKE UP IT!

2. Go the long way up and over Mt Hood and YOU HAVE TO STOP AT TIMBERLINE LODGE!

Both are amazing.

Go to Cathedral Ridge and Viento. They're both in Hood River, high quality, and will be much better value for the money than the Willamette Valley wines. More interesting and diverse than simply drinking Pinot, which you find at high quality in Switzerland. Start there, and if you need more exploration or wine tasting or wines, then dive more into the valley. If you're not there just for the best of wine/food, then do that and be efficient and enjoy some solid and fun offerings.

That's how I'd spend my time after 20+ years in the industry, unless I was there solely for a wine experience. Even then, I'd still recommend both of those wineries.
 
Yes the Pinot in Switzerland are great. Especially in Graubunden Region which is my absolutely favorite.

I wrote to both of these places to try and arrange a tasting tomorrow. You know it it's difficult to arrange a delivery in Europe?

Perfect. I will try both routes as I have one more night inbetween (Underwood WA).

Delivery to Europe has been a pain. Not saying things haven't changed, but two years ago it was. I had access that made a brick smooth as butter, but that is no more. It's also what factored into my recommendations.

You ever try Gantenbein?

Ok I hope i can ship to myself at least. If not it will be complicated but fingers crossed.

Gantenbein I tried once. Of course it was great. I have 3 favorites in Switzerland in the price range I kind afford myself: Erich Meyer, Louis Liesch and Gregor Kuonen. 1 near Zurich (my No 1), 1 in Graubunden and 1 in Wallis.

@BLAZINGGIANTS Cathedral Ridge was great and very welcoming. Unfortunately they don’t send abroad and taking with me with this weather would have totally killled the wine so I did not buy any bottle unfortunately. But the tasting was perfect. Tried Hood Creek as well and was terribly disappointed as they tend to drink maderized wine for whatever reason. 4 out of 5 should definitely have been opened at least 2 years ago.

That's one of the best rooftop bars in the city. It's fantastic.

If you're looking for an upscale rooftop bar still, there's one downtown called Departure. It's on the top floor of The Nines hotel, kiddy corner to the pioneer courthouse square. The Paper Plane cocktail is a must have.
 
Day 2 was great.

cadillac was awesome for the breakfast thanks to @THE HCP. Down to the Rose Garden for shopping some blazers merch. Unfortunately the nice lady in the shop didn’t let me have a Quick Look inside the arena. I understand her. These are the rules.

after a few coffees in the pearl (way nicer than some other areas that changed quite a lot since my last trip) we went to the Powell Book Store (thanks @UncleCliffy'sDaddy) where I lost my girlfriend and went to the barber when she was buying books.
Evening at the Portland City Grill after @Phatguysrule advice. Totally worth the trip up there. Amazing views and great meal. And even saw Donovan Clingan who was eating here. Didn’t want to bother him for a pic but it was 100% him.

If you've never been there - the Japanese Gardens in Washington Park is really a great place to spend a few hours. Us native Portlander's sometimes forget about this Portland gem!
