Portland sits still

We've done a bunch of stuff this offseason. The fact that the QUITTER is no longer on my favorite team is addition by subtraction.

I don't agree with the Holiday move but it was still a move.
Yeah, I'm with you. I think Jrue probably has more value than Ant even with the injuries and contract but it's a head scratcher for me. Obviously we need vets on the team and we do need a third guard to go with Scoot and Shaedon but I don't know about one of the greatest defensive guards ever who still probably sees himself that way (starting PG on the championship team just over a year ago). If he starts it could stunt the growth of Scoot or Shae and if he doesn't that could be problematic too.

Moving on from two starters and two bench rotation players is hardly doing nothing....Ayton, Ant, Bari and Banton are gone. That's a lot of change already and the offseason is young. What they won't do is muck up the books with the team for sale.
Funny comment because muck up the books is exactly what they did - turned expiring contracts into 70 million additional contracts until 2028.

I think we should trade Holiday. Only mans who should be on the team who's 35 is Dame.

The prior two offseasons were the times we made mistakes on Grant. First to offer that stupid contract two years ago, second to not flip him for the best return possible last summer when he had a far better than expected season.

But once we got a few months into last season and Grant played like shit the chance of getting off that contract was basically over. So thats not a mistake this summer.

They are under the tax and that’s keeping the books clear. They have assets as well. If they build value with Grant they could move him mid season. They’re just not selling low on him and you have to take on salary to field a competitive team. I think they signed the right vets this time

I'm good with Ayton buyout.

The draft pick of Yang seems very questionable to me but I'll give the Blazers the benefit of the doubt. Picks outside the top10 are a crapshoot. At least we added the Orlando pick even if Yang flops.

I'm happy to have Jrue over Ant for this NEXT season.

I will say of moves this summer the #1 major concern is that 2nd and 3rd year on Jrue contract. That looks like the one huge mistake of this summer. Combined with the prior two years of Grant contract mistakes that has about 70million screwing up our cap for guys who will probably both be bench players. Or we might hope they will happily accept being bench players. That erases all the benefits and more of Deni/Camara inexpensive contracts over the next few years

Overpaying irrelevant non all-stars has been a consistent Blazers theme going back to Olshey Meyers/Turner/Crabbe off-season. Cronin has made the same mistakes on over a half dozen players for years as well.

Instead of following an OKC/Rockets/Celtics/Spurs model it seems like we're emulating franchises like the Kings and recently the Raptors.

Theres not a chance in hell Yang becomes a superstar. He will be a star in China, but not here as defined by the NBAs version of what a superstar is (jokic, sga, etc) hes never going to get close to that.
For the record, I have no problem with this post. It’s just an opinion. Neither of us knows what will actually happen. I appreciate that, in no part of your post, did you put me down. Thank you.

Im never putting anyone down, I would never last in prison.

I am one of Cronin's biggest haters and while I still want him fired ASAP once the new owner buys the team I do not fault him for this summer. I fault that loser for us being in the position we are right now cause he knows little to nothing and a monkey with brain damage could do a better job then him. However saying all i just said about Cronin this summer he has done prolly as much as he could do with where he put the team and the fact his hands might be kind of tied to a degree UNTIL the team is sold. I still hope he can pull off a little something more but anyone expecting even a move of tremor quality move before training camp ... prepare to be disappointed .

What free agent do you want us to sign?

Oh wow, Joe Cronin is really cooking
… if by “cooking” you mean microwaving a frozen dinner and still somehow burning it. Every move he makes is like watching someone play 4D chess… blindfolded… with a checkers board. At this point, I’m convinced his trade strategy is just spinning a wheel labeled “meh” and calling it a rebuild.

I don't know we kept the guy who had the best three point shooting percentage on the team last season (Matisse), we let he guy with he second best walk (Jabari), Toumani was number three on the team, Deni was number four, Jerami was number five but the two seasons prior to last he was our best three point shooter percentage-wise.

Ant was next on the list. Last year Jrue shot 1% worse than Ant from three. I think we all expect Shaedon and Scoot to shoot a lot better from three this season but we'll have to see about that.

No, I don't think we'll be the worst three point shooting team in the league this upcoming season. I actually think we'll be a better three point shooting team than we were last year when we were 6th worst for three point percentage and middle of the pack (18th) in three pointers made. More importantly I'm hoping we lead the league in fast break points, that we lead the league in opponent turnovers and that we lead the league in opponent field goal percentage.

Matisse only played 15 games last year and he's a career 34% three point shooter. I think looking to him to provide shooting stability is a big, big gamble.

Ant's one virtue was that he was our most reliable three point shooter overall and the only guy who could somewhat consistently knock them down off the dribble. Jrue is definitely a better overall player but we're still looking to replace Ant's shooting at least on some level.

I think he needs to go. Make another move and get him to a contender. Taking on that salary is asinine.

Stupid thread to start. Could have been posted in one of the other threads on this topic. But for some reason certain people think their opinion deserves its own thread. Calm the ego.

Unfornately if the OP would have put this in one of the other off season or draft threads he would have had a bunch of trades and a huge buyout and a huge swing (even if ill advised) in the draft being posted about to completely render this premise nonsensical.

You can not like the fact that we traded Ant for Jrue, picked up a future unprotected first in the draft by trading back, drafted Yang and sent DA packing with a huge buyout but acting like we sat this draft and free agency transaction window out is just not true.

Goodbye Ant, DA and Jabari... hello Jrue and Yang.

34% is good enough to make the 3 as dangerous as a 2. That's plenty good of a threat to either spread the floor or punish teams for not respecting the 3.

i think joe is saving roster slot for potential unbalanced trade involving grant maybe not this summer but by the deadline (again).
Yeah that would make a lot of sense. We'll see. If this team is playing really well together and Jerami is a big part of it, I could see us holding onto him. If the young guys are really carrying the majority of the weight while Jerami and Jrue play really well and stay healthy, I could definitely see both of them going at the deadline.

Pretty much what last season, more than any other, taught me is that we have no idea what Joe is going to do. Sometimes it makes a ton of sense and sometimes it's absolutely senseless. Who knows we might have a new owner by the trade deadline.

League average is 36%, so objectively it is below average. Portland as a team shot 34.2% last year, which is 26th best. And they just lost their most prolific 3 point shooting threat.

I have no faith in a checked out Grant to rebound back to his outlierish 2022-24 numbers either. Or rebound at all for that matter.
