Of all the Blazers we currently have on the roster, whom would you get rid of, in what order? That is, player you'd be most happy to see gone first, then the next in line for the chop and so on. Do at least your first five. Remember that this includes:
Isaiah Briscoe PG
Archie Goodwin G
Anthony Morrow SG
CJ Wilcox SG

Here's mine:
1. Archie Goodwin (seen him, he's bad, don't care that he's still young)
2. CJ Wilcox (don't know, don't care)
3. Jake Layman (he just doesn't have it. Sorry.)
4. Project Pat (I'm ready to give up on the Project)
5. Evan Turner

Number 5 might be a surprise (especially if we just waive him and eat the contract) but watching that preseason game bad memories came flooding back. His total lack of shooting just doesn't work with the way this team runs. And he's sloppy with the ball. And he holds on to the ball too long and seems to disrupt the flow. (Say what you will about Pat, but he seems to blend in pretty well: he's a weak link but he can be part of a successful whole, whereas Turner either has to have the ball or be useless, and him having the ball isn't that great.)
The worst part about Turner is that he's got such a huge contract and he's coming up on 30, so you can't just NOT PLAY him. But you probably SHOULDN'T play him.

I hate to say it, because I so want him to be good, and I like him as a person probably as much as any Blazer (particularly on Twitter). But he has only ever looked good on one team, and that was the Celtics. Do they want him back?

Ed and Aminu should be combined in a trade for a better wing off the bench.

Why not Layman? When I watch Layman I am always amazed at his ability to get his shot off, he has NBA size athleticism and also has a beautiful looking shot.... It just isn't falling yet. If he slows down a bit I think he could potentially be our best SF. I see a healthy Chandler Parsons potential there.

What do you mean "get rid of"? Does that mean cut them and eating their salary, or trading them for nothing relieving us of their salary.

If the former, Turner doesn't make my list. If the latter, he definitely does.

Don't get the Aminu hate. Just don't give him the ball on offense - lobs and offensive rebounds only. But you don't get rid of the player that is by far and away best at what the team is worst at.

Aminu is ok if you don't ask him to do much. It's an ok rotational player with a cap friendly contract.

The ones that really seem useless are Ed Davis and Turner. I wish we could trade for some wing, but we really have noone to give away. Hell even Justin Holiday would be super useful right now.

Josh Jackson. Scored 8 on Morrow in that time. Basically shut down the other 21 minutes he was on the floor, scoring just 6 points in 21 minutes against Turner, Harkless, and Layman.

The difference in defense on him the moment Morrow sat was unmistakable.

He immediately got pulled the next dead ball after this play. And rightfully so. Expect more from a vet, even if defense isn't your calling card. A closeout is a basic basketball play. If he would've put even 10% effort into it, I don't think he gets pulled.

That's very disappointing. The guy has a non-guaranteed contract and is fighting for a roster spot. You think he'd be out there busting his ass. Sounds like he already has one foot through the door to retirement. I expected more.

Maybe it's because it's the first pre-season game and vets like him 'play their way into shape'.
But IDK. I imagine the coaching staff will sit down with him and voice what they expect of him.
As someone mentioned in the game thread. 'Morrow didn't look pleased to be coming out of the game'.
Hopefully he realizes that just because he's a vet, doesn't mean he's going to make the Portland Trailblazers.

He's a veteran role player. He should know by now that roster spots are earned, not given.

It will be interesting if he seems a little more motivated in the next game.

LOLminu's defense is the most overrated thing about the Blazers. He's NOT good at it, he's just versatile because of his length/size. He can guard several positions, but he doesn't guard any of them better than average, and that's probably a bit too generous.

You realize that your screen shots suggest that Avery Bradley (196th in Drtg, 111th in DWS)--universally recognized as one of the league's top perimeter defenders--is basically on the same level as Aminu, right? That fact alone pretty severely undercuts the point you're trying to support.

Understand that I'm not saying that Aminu is necessarily all that great a defender, and I don't buy into Rasta's (and ESPN's) DRPM either; just saying that those other metrics pretty well suck too.

If he makes $18M and he accepts a $9M buyout, the $9M counts against the cap and he's off the books for next year.

Yes, I do. I thought I had alluded to that when I said I'd counter Rasta's "highly subjective stat" with three of my own. I think these "advanced" stats are largely a lot of noise. But with a 3:1 ratio, there's a bit more cut-through in my noise.

Stats be damned, Aminu just isn't a good defender. And he's certainly nowhere near good enough to offset how awful he is on offense. If he were a Ben Wallace, Worm, Posey, Bowen, etc on defense then you could live with his awful offense. But he's not even an Evan Turner on defense.
