he really sucks man. Good in theory, but dude can't play ball. and he's already 26

In theory?
18.7 PER
43% 3PT (38% career)
17.4 assist % (15% career) (would rank him second on Portland)
2.3 OBPM (would rank him second)
0.5 DBPM (would tie him with Bazemore for third)
2.8 BPM (would rank him third)

What about Jrue Holiday? I think I saw on Woj podcast that he might be available. He's 29 years old, has a couple years on his kind of reasonable contract after this year. He is a combo guard and two way player, could divide minutes equally with CJ and Lillard. Not as tall as I would like but taller than either of them. He's really good all around player, five rebounds a game this year and almost 7 assists, shot 35% from three over his career. Would people trade Anf and Bazemore expiring for him? I would sure trade a first round pick.

Ideally I would trade CJ for him. Pelicans seem to like Redick a lot as a floor spacer so maybe they like CJ too after all? I'd give up Nassir+CJ for Jrue. Of course I would try to avoid Nassir, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I think Jrue makes much more sense next to Dame and takes away many of our D issues. He is not the shooter CJ is but he is a good scorer as well and he will help more with ball movement.

Btw Woj said the Cavs will probably land a protected 1st rounder for Love and he added Blazers still interested. I hope at this point it is not our pick, but anyway I create the below trade.

I’d swap CJ for him and not think twice.

Sure' I'd love to do that; but doubt New Orleans would be that stupid.

What if we couldn't make any other deals? And if Otto Porter got reasonably healthy? Would you trade Whiteside and Bazemore expirings for Otto Porter and Thaddeus Young? No draft picks; just assuming they wish they hadn't signed these two older guys and want to get their contracts off the books.......

You know who would fit into the Hood DPE that I think would be a nice target?

MARKIEFF MORRIS. He can help the bench now but he’s also versatile enough to be useful once Nurk comes back.

TBH, I would love if the Blazers landed either of the Morris brothers. They’d bring a toughness and nastiness this roster lacks. And they always seem to play well against Portland.

Morris makes too much for the Hood DPE ($3.2 million, DPE would be $2.86). He also has a player option for 2020-21 making him ineligible.

Yes.

Maybe something like this?
POR Gets: Porter, Dieng, Felicio, Future 2nd from MIN & CHI
CHI Gets: Whiteside, Bazemore
MIN Gets: Young

Maybe ship Whiteside to a 4th team to see if you can get back more value.

Before you shit all over a 4-team trade... Doesn't this deal make sense for ALL teams?

POR Gets: Otto Porter, Nic Batum, Willy Hernangomez, 2020 CLE 2nd (via CHA), 2020 MIN 2nd, 2021 MIN 2nd, 2022 CHA 2nd
CHI Gets: Bismack Biyombo
MIN Gets: Marvin Williams
CHA Gets: Hassan Whiteside, Gorgui Dieng, Kent Bazemore

PORTLAND
Gets
: Otto Porter, Nicolas Batum, Willy Hernangomez, '20 CLE 2nd (via CHA), '22 CHA 2nd, '20 MIN 2nd, '21 MIN 2nd
Sends: Hassan Whiteside, Kent Bazemore
Why they do it: Portland gets a good starting SF, another SF in Batum for depth, and gets a solid backup C in Hernangomez and future due to taking on Batum's bad contract. One of them would be in the early 30s (CLE), and Minnesota's could be around 40,giving them the chance to possibly move up a bit in the draft, trade a couple of those picks for multiple future 2nds. Batum and Porter would give Portland two $27M expiring contracts next year, and with added future 2nds as well as the ability to trade who they drafted in 2020 alongside of their 2021 1st, Portland may be in better position to make that win now move.

PORTLAND ROTATION:
Dame / CJ
CJ / Simons
Porter / Batum
Collins* / Melo / Little
Nurkic * / Hernangomez / Skal

CHICAGO
Gets:
Bismack Biyombo
Sends: Otto Porter
Why they do it: Chicago saves $10M this year and $27M next year by moving off of Porter's contract for Biyombo's expiring. Could also include Gary Trent Jr. if Chicago wanted.

MINNESOTA
Gets:
Marvin Williams
Sends: Gorgui Dieng, 2020 MIN 2nd, 2021 MIN 2nd
Why they do it: Minnesota attaches two 2nd round picks to trade Dieng for an expiring contract of an equally talented player, which is a very good price. Williams fits a bit better at PF than Dieng, and with KAT, he makes more sense.

CHARLOTTE:
Gets: Hassan Whiteside, Gorgui Dieng, Kent Bazemore
Sends: Nicolas Batum, Marvin Williams, Bismack Biyombo, Willy Hernangomez, 2020 CLE 2nd, 2022 CHA 2nd
Why they do it: Charlotte is a darkhorse contender for a playoff spot, and an upgrade at C (whiteside) would help. However, they also save apx. $11M next summer by trading Batum's 2 year contract ($27M next yr) for Dieng's ($16M next year). All other contracts they trade or get are expiring, but there rotation and cap situation are noticeably better and they only have to give up two 2nds.

CHARLOTTE ROTATION:
Graham / Rozier
Rozier / Monk
Bridges / Bazemore
Washington / Dieng
Whiteside / Zeller

I was high and read it as 3.86m and didn’t care enough to research Leeds contract. I do not regret it. I still want him!

I think it's a foregone conclusion that we trade either one or both of Hassan/Baze for a player with at least a year more left. No way we are just absorbing that salary relief summer without any substantial increase in capspace. This is one of the only tools we have to improve the team.

I guess no Joakim lol

Well that makes me feel better about our front office, if not about Joakim.
I guess we knew he preferred big cities, but with the Bulls, Knicks and the Warriors sucking, and him hating LeBron, that kind of narrows his options.

Im thinking Boston will want to clear some cap to re-sign Tatum & Brown.
They could clear 100 million by making the following trade:

Boston trades - Hayward - 77m 1 year
Smart - 30m 2 years

Portland trades - Whiteside & Baze

They need a legit rim protector if the want to take the next step & Baze gives them 2/3 that can play some D.
Helps Blazers for a a legit scoring 3 and a tough guard either at 1/2

Just a thought...

I actually was thinking about this exact trade if all else failed. You at least get smart who could be an expiring next year if it didn’t work

Some of the numbers seem off but I like the idea.
