Dames last 5 games or so pretty much killed his chances of becoming an MVP this year. It’s either Jokic or Harden. Since that Dallas blowout his shooting been terrible
That's a completely false narrative cooked up by you and @AldoTrapani. Last I checked those five games increased his assists per game stayed virtually the same and he stayed at second in the league in scoring. The fact is if Dame has the numbers that he has at the end of the season and this team has a top four seed then he might have a slight chance at the MVP. I never thought that the team around Dame was complementary enough to get him the MVP but media was into it and if Dame ends the season by going supernova for the last ten games the media (who decide the MVP) will be bullish on him... but still probably not give it to him based on the lack of success of the team.

All of that said, make no mistake about it... five games averaging 23.2 ppg and 7.8 apg on a little less effective shooting and fewer turnovers than your season average, while hobbled, is not going to kill a MVP campaign.

Blazers always bad first game back from road trip. Havent looked it up, but I always pay attention to it, its crazy how many times they come back and you think 'great, back home, get some wins' and they lose.
Yeah that does happen. They say it's like another road game. This one will be as well because it's a two game B2B home stand and back out on the road to go play the Clippers.

There was a time where the pg distributed the ball and wasnt counted on to be the #1. 2 guards have always been in the mic for FGA.
When Curry and Thompson were killing it it was the same thing with then getting most attempts. I guess you cant argue it as its been effective and Dame has put himself in contention for MVP.
I believe we are last in the league for assist.
Thing about curry and Thompson there moving around screens to get open looks our two it's more just iso or PNR but most the time there keeping the ball. To me they can get have there shots but as long majority of those comes with some kind of offense. Our offense is more read a react what the defense doing. But the problem is we got 2 guards hasn't seen they didn't like. Has it work you can they score a lot of points but if there not hot we struggle. Just like to more balanced within the offense. Last in the 1st half we had great balance in shots and selection score a lot points even though down it wasn't offense put us there. Second not so much and we start struggling a little bit.

I watched the Clippers absolutely dismantle the Bucks last night. Blazers have just as many weapons against them as the Clippers did in that game.
Clippers beat them badly without PG or Beverly but had 4 players with 20 or more points. Crazy part was the Bucks were getting to the line.
Clips hit 8 more 3's at over 50%. Offense is up in the league.

How many awful games has jokic had this year? Dame has had several.

I like stats, but some are just absolutely fucking ridiculous. Be like somebody hitting 3 three's in two minutes and somebody saying that's averaging 180 points a game. That stat there is the same kind of absurdity

How many excellent defenders have won NBA MVP?

I think that's why he said "mostly meaningless".

Jordan, Lebron, Kobe, Garnett, Duncan, David Robinson, Hakeem, Giannis.

That's just the last 30 years... Over half were very good defenders.

How come Stotts looks at stats like these, but seems to completely ignore many others?

Which ones do you know he ignores? Being bad at something and ignoring a stat are two different things.

43 of the 56 nba mvp trophies went to guys I would consider excellent defenders.

Defense is definitely not as important to the media that get MVP votes now as it used to be because I only think 11 of the last 20 mvp trophies have been awarded to guys that I consider excellent defenders.

I guess we'll find out in the next few weeks if your assessment is true.

wut?...my "assessment" is that a stat that is basically a 20 minute sample is a useless predictive stat when an NBA season is over 3900 minutes long

I mean, for chrissakes, are you honestly suggesting that trio will have an 80.8 defensive rating at the end of the season?

I missed the game, how did that look? It just sounds like a mess playing 3 short scoring guards. 41 points allowed in the 1st quarter. I don't see how you can take Jones out of the starting lineup. Maybe Stotts is experimenting but it doesn't seem viable.
Since this thread is about Powell I'm assuming you are assuming that Powell is being played as a guard but he's actually being played as a small forward.

Useless? I think it's a little too early to say that. So far he's looking good. Thin statistical data? Yes, I've got to agree but useless? No, just enough to begin a smile on my face.

I personally do not think that groups defensive rating will be that low. Will it be better than the team average throughout the season, which was the implication in the original statement? I believe that has yet to be seen, but it is possible

I do not think anyone said that their rating after 20 minutes will be the rating throughout the remainder of the season.
