"Hey NBA, if you can give us your superstars while we give you trash in return that would be great".

We can do it later, but that seems less likely because anyone we might acquire at that point would have multiple years remaining on his deal which would subsequently eat into our cap space for the summer, and most of our best trade assets (Kaman, Henderson, Meyers, Harkless, Crabbe) which would be needed to acquire a "needle-mover" (the only acceptable result of a 2016 cap-consuming trade) won't be available to be dealt at that point. At the least, I expect us to try to get to the salary floor. Then again, we can also do this after our season ends, but before July 1.

IMO, if reaching the floor is a goal, it happens this week or not at all.
Something like this would be what I'd try if I'm Neil http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=gw535rt
We get Blake Griffin
Clippers get Markieff Morris, Hendo, Meyers, PJ Tucker, $11mil trade exception, POR pick,
Phoenix gets Vonleh, Kaman
Plumlee, Davis
Griffin, Harkless
Aminu,
CJ, Crabbe

Didn't the NBA do just that when the Clips got CP3?
I think Neil targets Thaddeus Young to fill the PF spot. He's hugely underrated and doesn't demand the ball, so it wouldn't interrupt any of the current offense. He's a massive upgrade to Noah on both offense and defense. We send them Noah, and even offer to take back JJack in a salary dump since he's done for the year.

Plus we get the whole "traded Jermaine to get Dale Davis" thing done sooner rather than later.
If Vonleh were 7 foot and had a double digit PER, I'd be reluctant to trade him. He's a tweener that has been given the opportunity to start and hasn't really shown flashes of much, particularly for his draft position.

Vonleh has 5" more on Thaddeus Young in terms of wing span. Isn't Young the tweener? I think we need an athletic PF who can cover both stretch 4's and post up 4's. It seems like Vonleh has the potential to fit that need.
I think what the Blazers have positioned themselves to do and will do is be the 3rd party facilitator while other teams try to match-up salaries. I believe that many of us because of the cap jump this summer are overlooking the fact that most teams are still over the cap and have to match salaries (based on trade regulations) to make things work between now and June 30th or more specifically this Thursday at Noon PST.
The beauty of it is this, teams may have to really entice us to help them out, that usually comes in the form of Draft Picks. That is what Boston and Philly have done to amass their picks. SO my prediction is we will be involved this way somehow. It's very much in Neil's playbook of acquiring Assets for very little.
Leonard is going to be poison pilled this summer. I can see the Lakers making a push for him, they definitely have the cap space and he'd kind of fit in there pretty nicely.
There's really no such thing as a poison pill anymore.
We did it to OKC with Kanter last year.
Yeah and where is Kanter now?
Yeah, but they overpaid for him. Some teams might just do it out of pure fuckery.
