Not sure what kind of conversations the coaching staff has had with CJ, but he’s absolutely intent on not passing the ball. He will only pass if he really, really has no choice.

CJ has talked about the importance of "getting that bread" for a while now. That type of play has got him making $106m over 4 years, so why would he change?

It's just preseason, but a few things are evident to me.

-- The Blazers' liabilities on defense aren't going to be fixed by adding two good individual defensive players. It's having a solid scheme and then having guys committed to at least trying. The Blazers need help and recover defenders. As long as you have Dame and CJ expending most of themselves at the offensive end, you need guys you can recover and then close out effectively. I don't think we have anyone that does that.

-- The lack of pride when the other team is treating you like the Washington Generals concerns me, preseason or not.

-- The ball movement problems on this team aren't just because we have 13 guys who don't really look to pass, we have 13 guys who don't know how to move without the ball. Case in point, CJ breaks down the defense, drives to the hoop, and no one covers Nurk ... who does nothing to make himself available to give CJ a good passing angle. People will crush CJ for not giving up the ball, but Nurk stood in a spot where 1 defender could effectively guard both Blazers.

-- We talk so much about 3-and-D guys. Do the Nuggets have a 3-and-D guy? Looks to me like the Nuggets have a team's worth of guys who all dribble adequately enough to draw an extra defender, move well enough without the ball to get open, and shoot well enough to make wide-open shots. I think the 3-and-D thing is overrated and honestly is about 1 step away from going the way of the pure center. Being able to put the ball on the floor is what makes positionless basketball work more so than having 5 guys who can shoot 3s.

Such a contrast in styles. Even when the Blazers do pass, it is from one player going Iso to another player going Iso. There is almost no cutting, no movement, or nothing that moves the defense other than when Dame drives and draws multiple defenders. CJ will draw multiple defenders as well...he just doesn't pass out of it.

Someone explain this to me because I have never understood it. Why the fuck do we cheat off anyone? Every time I see someone wide open for three I want to throw the remote.

Blame the altitude! The O2 deprivation is making them halucinate that they are playing well!

Yeah, you're right - I got nothing. This performace just stinks.

It’s just time for a new coach. 10 years for Stotts is ridiculous he isn’t that great to get that long of time

just started watching (live).

I was told this team was going to improve their defense and had a deep bench.

Hurd talking about how it's not personel beating the Blazers, but rather style.

Like passing, and moving without the ball?

Melo in for 6 seconds....jacks a '3'.
2nd trip, offensive foul on a moving pick.
.

Melo with the 0-pass possession. Even though he made the shot, bigger picture, that is not a good thing.
