Lauri can't be traded until summer 2025 because he signed an extension.

Even if he could doesn't make sense for the rebuilding Blazers to be sending out picks for a veteran, but he literally can't be traded here or to any NBA team right now.

I did see that the Lakers' "poor man's Rob Lowe" GM said yesterday that they'd be prepared to give up first rounders, so that makes me more interested.

I'd assume Grant to the Lakers is the most likely to happen, just makes sense for both teams. Both teams media day is Monday the 30th so you'd think the teams prefer to have the deal done by then or not at all.

Yeah Ant makes sense to a team like Detroit - they desperately need shooting. It's crazy but I wonder if Grant may actually have more value locked on that big contract, as trading for Ant risks having to pay him even more next summer if he performs well. Detroit isn't really a free agent destination or close to any tax issues so they probably would be one of the few teams that would have zero salary concerns about either player.

ahh wasnt aware of that.
However regarding fit, he is 27. I dont think we want a roster of ALL 24 and under. A couple Vets in the 25-29 age would be just fine.

What about Detroit trades for BOTH Grant and Simons? They might be willing to give up a lot of picks. Looks like the still have $10 million or so of cap room. Maybe one trade can be done using all the room and then the second trade just matching salaries within 150%? I'm not really sure how to exactly make the salaries work but seems like that should be possible. Then they also give us multiple FRP or give us some swaps (especially 2025/2026).

They supposedly have impatient owners and new management so who knows maybe they do some type of deal like this to win now even if the better strategy would probably be for them to hold onto all picks.







Detroit still keeps their pick next year 1-13 so we can do a swap for it or something;

One reason it's NOT likely: because the Lakers are over the "second apron" they can't aggregate players in a trade, and everybody on the Lakers either earns way more than Grant or way less.

I don't think that's crazy at all. Grant, at least, has a history of playing passable defense; he's as good a shooter as Simons. And, he's a 'versatile' wing with 2-way & 3&D value. Not a lot of those kind of values, but likely enough to draw interest from more teams than Simons....who is a sieve on defense with no ability to play as a wing because of his size. So, no 2-way or 3&D value. I think wings with dribble drive and perimeter shooting skills are probably the most coveted types of players

certainly, Grant is rather low level among those wing peers, but still...

I remain unconvinced that Grant will return two certain 1st round picks, but I guess anything is possible. Portland can't be the only team willing to overpay in draft assets for lower tier talent

according to Spotrac, Blazers now have 15 players with guaranteed contracts. If they did a 1 for 3 trade once the season starts, they'd have to waive 2 players first. Right now they could do the trade because they can have up to 20 players under contract. They'd still have to dump two before the season starts though
