I was going to counter each point, but as I ran the data for shitty players with DRtgs above 106 and ORtgs below 101 and PER below 10, he was the best among them, so fire away.
So he's the best of the shitty? I'm sold ;)

So I have hit the last little scraping at the bottom of the barrel but here it goes... How does he compare to other backup C's in the league? I don't think he's terrible in that regard, but we all wnat every player to be a stud... okay yeah that's sounding flat and uninspired, kinda like Meyers' game last night.

That's it that's the only silver lining I have left on this one.

He was worse than the total team values on both NYK and CLE during his entire stint. He's bad; please understand this. He's a shitty player who is garbage. But somehow he's min/maxed his stats to have a really great VORP, so among shitty players who suck, he's the best.
Oh, crap, I guess you said that too, LOL

This is kind of a “he’s not even the best drummer in the Beatles” scenario; if you compare him to other backup C’s on our team he’s third best behind Ed and Zach.

On the bright side, we could be paying a 31 year old Timofey Mozgov $15 million this year to average 7 points and 5 rebounds.

Well we will pay Davis+Leonard 16M to average 8 points and 6 rebounds combined.

I'm trying to stay silent and patient, because the first game gave me hope, and I'm driving the freaking bandwagon, but I'm staying right next to the shoulder, and I've got roadside assistance on speed-dial, with Uber cued up just in case.

If this bandwagon breaks down completely, will there be room for me on the "give the rookies all the PT" bus...?

How the mighty have fallen...

If Meyers ever wants to become not a crappy big man, he needs to stop being afraid of the paint. His defense is average at best. Certainly not good enough to warrant a spot in a rotation based on his defense.

Big men score most of their points inside, on put backs, rolling to the hoop, and post ups. The outside shot is a supplemental thing. The only big men that made a living outside were tremendous one on one players on the perimeter, like Dirk Nowitski. A big man is only going to get so many assisted jump shots per game. That's why I"ve never been a fan of soft, jump shooting big men like Meyers and Channing Frye (or LaMarcus for that matter)

Problem with Myers he no instincts on defense at all. Occasional he does decent on real slow center. But when someone driving to the hoop he doesn't react to the situation that why he has to reach and usually pick the foul up. That a real liability to the team when he on the floor. This is his 6th year to improve on that part of his game and he hasn't done it yet. He has 4 more games to prove he should be ahead of Swanigan and Collins so far he is down 2-0.

A new Meyers Leonard... same ol' J Quick

seriously, this guy mails in human interest Bball stories with the most serial of Days of Our Lives formulas. I don't know why any Blazer fan who doesn't love their expected plain oatmeal bothers reading this tripe.

STOMP

Meyers will have a solid career as a 3rd string big for years to come....we need to generate some buzz around the guy! He played well against Gasol and Cousins at times.....both teams are not great at trades....I have hope! By February I hope he's a solid 10 pt defender who doesn't foul out in his 12 minutes!

I watched the 2nd half of the Raptor's game last night..... oh my god.

I can almost see his internal mental dialog as guards come into the paint. "OMG, a guard is coming in, what do I do, what do I do, let me take a wild swipe at the ball...oh no, he's scoring a layup." Seriously, Meyers didn't even contest it at all, he just stood their doing that little "meyers shuffle" where he flailes his arms and taps his feet from side to side, but he didn't even go up and challenge the fucking shot. Good god he is horrible.

His only idea for how to redeem himself is to make a lot of jumpers, but he was only 1-6, forcing up bad shots.

Yeah, he can say and think all the right things, but in the end no matter how hard he tries he just doesn't have any instincts for the game of basketball. Every night is the same "Mom's Spaghetti" scene from 8 Mile, over and over. "Progress" for him is having a run of two or three games until he starts choking again.

If Meyers were a foot shorter does anybody think he would've been any sort of athlete, aside from maybe a body builder?

Meyers looks like the brain of some regular person who has never played basketball aside from shooting hoops in the driveway were transplanted into the body of a 7 foot nba player. That's the way he plays.

To me, it's really the combo of "no instincts" + "fragile psyche". I've never seen this in an NBA player, or any pro. athlete, period.

Hopefully when the real games counts we will only see him on the side lines.

I think you, the boards, Mike Rice, and Stotts are on the same page on that one:

"Meyers Leonard enters the game for the first time" - Clippers announcer in 4th quarter of Blazers-Clipppers preseason game.

I know Meyers has only played in 5 games but.... It was pointed out in this thread that Meyers was showing improvement while playing Center then was moved to PF when Lamarcus left and fell off the planet. He has played 5 games so far (tiny sample for sure) this season and is back to playing C, and he's looking pretty good so far.

PER 36 this season
18.3pts, 11reb .632fg .5713pt and a PER of 19.8

Not saying anything is confirmed at this point but at least it's encouraging.

And for the first time ever, he passes the eye test. For two games anyway. Fingers crossed.

We can criticize Leonard all we want when he’s playing like shit, he deserves it, but I’ll never understand the people that are so blinded by their hate that they can’t see the value he does bring to our team when he’s playing well.
