Quick: "Blazers leaning towards standing pat"

I didn't realize Deron was even available! I hope Cho did his due diligence and at least gave Utah an offer.

I'm sure he did, and it was toxic. Utah promptly spit it out.

You guys are both smart enough to know that a team isnt going to trade their All Star to a team in their own division.

Deron for Harris and Favors definitely trumps Miller and Przy, but I'm not talking about losing out on a single deal, I'm talking about the mentality of "standing pat" instead of continuing to pursue other options to make this team younger and (once again) letting assets expire with nothing coming back in return (Van Exel, Lafrenz and now Pryz and probably Miller and Camby a year from now).

I think Paul Allen, for all of his virtues of being a free spender, has also gotten a little gun-shy. Maybe it wasn't KP sitting on his hands year after year, maybe it was PA?

You asked "who else is out there that we could possibly go for?" I listed two that have been identified previously as salaries their teams are seeking to shed. Was that just a rhetorical question?

Gerald Wallace?

"There's nothing happening," Silas said prior to Tuesday's win over Toronto. "We're not just going to give people away and that's what most teams want you to do, is give your quality players away."

As for Biedrins, I've heard Golden State wanting to improve their center position, but nothing really about him being shopped.

Are you really gullible enough to take what Quick says as facts? You think Cho turned his phone off and is taking a nap right now?

I don't think Cho has turned his phone off, but I think Allen has probably closed the door on trades unless he can get something for nothing.

Heh, Cho is living up to the name that I bestowed upon him.

RLEC gave the Blazers the cap space to sign Andre Miller, and offer Hedo and also Millsap.

Given today's turn of events, one could say that RLEC improved the Blazers and shattered the foundation and future flexibility of Utah. Improve your own team and set forth the events to cause a division rival to rebuild? I think that's good use of an expiring contract.

Our front office sucks because if they stand pat they will let yet another expiring contract fall off the books for nothing.

You hate our coach, you hate the front office, etc. For your own health, it might be a good idea to find a new team before you turn into Mixum. :devilwink:

Chad Ford for just reported the Bobcats want an expiring contract and a protected first-round pick for Wallace. Come on Cho/Vulcans!
Problem is Przybilla alone isn't enough. So it would have to be Joel+someone else.

Or we could add in Williams or Mills. Or we could add in Marks and swap 2nd-round rookie PGs. It's not that hard.

Joel + Babbit + 1st rounder for Wallace works under the cap.

I'd do it, but the lack of hearing Babbitt or any of our rookies it rumors makes me wonder if the FO values them more than we do...

Just because the teams were reported to want to shed salaries don't mean one it's true or two they are willing to trade for Joel's expiring contract or we'd want what they'd give us..

We're not exactly the only team that could offer an expiring and a first. Many of the other teams "rumored" to be interested could offer better picks or in the Cavs case, instant salary relief.

I would love to have Crash on the Blazers. Would Pryz-Miller work for Wallace-Augustin?

Again, the initial question by B-Roy was "Who could we go after?" Have I said that it is a slam dunk? Have I said that Cho's a loser if he doesn't make the deal? No--all I've said is that there are other players we could pursue, and that there are ways to make the salaries match.

What are you reading into my responses that I haven't actually said?

Because these options aren't realistic?

A lot can happen in 24 hours. Your crazy to think we are set on "standing pat".

I don't think were making a "big" deal but i'm sure Cho is still on the phone making calls and trying to get something done. Its stupid to think that he isn't just because Quick came out and said it.

You're really not paying attention, are you?

Chad Ford reported that the Cats are looking to trade Wallace for an expirings and a pick. We have matching expirings and a pick. Therefore, Wallace is, if the report is accurate, a realistic option. Not a slam dunk. Not a guarantee. We're not the only team that has what Charlotte wants. But it's realistic.

Are you arguing just to argue? It's really getting tedious.

Their coach also said they aren't going to trade him for nothing, or are you going to ignore that too? The combination of both makes him unlikely as a target.

Coaches don't make trades; GM's do. So yes, I will completely ignore what their coach said, because no coach is going to say "yes, we're looking to trade one of our best players." Come on, I'm sure you've been watching the NBA for long enough to get that.

Great, so instead of listening to the coach, you're going to listen to Chad Ford instead. It's nice knowing who you selectively like to believe. I'll keep that in mind from now on.
