Code Name: The Cleaner 4/10
Starring Cedric the Entertainer, Lucy Liu, Nicolette Sheridan, and Mark Dacascos.
Mildy comical at best, and really, while not expecting much, I still felt like I had wasted a good 90 minutes of my life(watched this on a laptop on a 2 hour ride, so that wasn't too bad on my conisence) on this atrocity of a comedy film. Cedric needs to stick to characters like the old man barber in the Barbershop films instead of playing himself or a plain character.
Avoid this film at all costs.
Payback: Director's Cut 8/10
http://imdb.com/title/tt0958860/
Directed by Brian Helgeland, starring Mel Gibson, Maria Bello, David Paymer, William Devane, Gregg Henry, Deborah Kara Unger, and Lucy Alexis Liu (now known as Lucy Liu).
This is not the Payback that was released in 2000, yet similar. It turns out the director did not make the final cuts for the 2000 version, and scenes were re-filmed, new scenes filmed for that 2000 cut. It appears Mel Gibson decided that Payback deserved its true cut by its true original co-writer and director, Brian Helgeland.
The first half of the 2007 cut is basically the same as the 2007 cut, with a little different order of some scenes. The 2nd half is drastically different, with different bosses, etc. For example, Kris Kristofferson is in the old 2000 version, but not in the 2007 cut.
What is different is for me to know and for you to watch to find out. Back in the day of Payback, I loved it to death, and watched it a ton of times. I'd gladly watch it again. 2007's Payback is equally good, but I will admit not as much fun to watch repeatedly as 2000's Payback. One reason I love watching Payback is the connection and dialogue between Mel Gibson (Porter) and Gregg Henry's (Val Resnick) characters, and the Val Resnick character, which is superbly and fantanstically cockingly played by Gregg Henry.
Upon first viewing, I think both are equal in quality, but I think the 2000 cut slightly edges the 2007 cut, but not by much, because the 2007 cut is really good.
Recommended rental if you can, if not, it ain't too bad at around $15.
