Re-signing Grant

why would any NBA player sign a 4 year contract when they could wait a couple months and sign a 5 year. Yeah there is a chance of injury, but I can't imagine any players not waiting on the 5th year.

At this point the only two untouchables on the team (For less than a prime Superstar) are Dame and Sharpe simply because the latter has Superstar potential, though he may never realize it. Other than that it's open season for trading anyone and everyone else on this roster. The season has been a joke and if you were to average out that hot start, we'd be looking at tanking for Wemby.

Delayed reaction, but: no. Why would we pay him that much money to be an above-average starter on a below-average team?

Let him walk and get this roster geared to excellence in the future, rather than mediocrity in the present.

(I know that is not going to happen, but a guy can dream.)

Jerami Grant in the past ten games:
34 mpg
17 ppg
4.6 rpg
44% fg
34% 3fg
1.9 apg
-3.2 per game (best on team is Payton, with +3.1 in 16.5 mpg)

Pretty meh for someone earning $20 mill. But he wants, what $28 million? I wish I thought the team would consider trading him before the deadline because I think we might actually get something for him. A team like Dallas would probably like him, and unlike us, they're actually likely to make the playoffs.

Unfortunately, they have nothing to offer us. I'm up for trading him as well, though, if the expected contract is much bigger than what was already offered.

Both guards, admittedly, although big ones.

where the fuck do you come up with these ridiculous bullshit straw-man numbers?

I'm sure he'd like to make over 48M dollars a year. But does anybody in their right mind (assuming they possess one) really believe Grant expects 48M/year?

He’s eligible for 5 years 233M this summer my guy. That’s what he will expect from us this summer since he’s declining the 4 year deal now..

So again fuck no I wouldn’t pay him that

I think he has to hit certain milestones to be eligible for that, and he hasn't. Things like All-NBA.

No one is going to pay Grant anywhere close to the max, I personally don't think he'll get 30 mil per next yr, frankly I don't think he's worth the 4 yr 112 yr we supposedly offered, 4 yrs/100 mil is highest I'd go and would wonder if that's a bad contract, he just does not rebound worth shit and does not seem very impactful

Dame got PAID
Ant got paid
Nurk got paid
Grant will get paid

.....and yet that is the core of a sub .500 ball club. Not that players don't deserve what they can get, but the $$$ don't seem to be getting wins.

This is an older article but I think the rules still apply

https://www.forbes.com/sites/tommyb...ble-for-super-max-extensions/?sh=254ead9e62bc
Now let’s discuss the particulars when it comes to eligibility. In order to qualify for a super-max pact this summer, a player has to meet one of the following performance criteria:

  • The player was named to an All-NBA team in 2018-19, or in two of the last three seasons.
  • The player was named the NBA MVP in any of the three most recent seasons.
  • The player was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year for 2018-19, or in two of the last three seasons.
Grant has never been an All-NBA player, MVP, or Defensive player of the year.

Grant already has a deal in place for a slight overpay over 5 seasons which is a bad contract just like Nurk's and Ant's. These aren't untradeable contracts or even negative value to all 30 teams, they're just not great because if these guys were to test free agency they would get less. I don't care that Jerami is in a slump he's a great third or fourth best player with Dame. That should put his contract around 5 years 140M IMO considering what salaries will do during that time.

Grant is in his 9th season so only eligible for 30% of cap. The cap this year is 123M. Assuming next year it's 130M, that would limit Grant to 39M fist year salary. A 4 year deal would max out at 6 step raises of 3.1M...so 18M. So, 4 year base salary of 156M + 18M = 174M (about 60M less than your outlandish number). That would be 43.5M/year, and No, he's not going to get that nor would he ask for that in any reasonable situation

Justice Winslow & Josh Hart would both be eligible for the same contract

so let me use your logic: "wow, Josh Hart wants 44M/year....fuck that guy"

Aldo thinks that Grant is eligible for the supermax, and he's not.

Yet if you look at their numbers over the last 10 games, since that is the span you took for Grant.

Green 12.7 points, 2.2 assists 3.1 Rebounds, 52.8 fg and 37.5 3 pt Fg%
Hardy 6.5 points .8 assists 1.4 rebounds, 48.3 % fg and 35.3 3 Pt Fg%

Or you just taking career games for both of them comparing them to Grant, during a slump and saying they are what you would want to trade Grant for. Neither of them make us better if you take Grant off the team.

“The $112 million the Blazers put on the table is the most they can present right now under the collective bargaining agreement. Quick noted their highest offer for Grant climbs to $233 million over five years starting July 1. Any other franchise could go up to $174 million over four years.”

He’s eligible for that 233

I still don't think that's right.

He'll be a 10 year vet who can sign for 35% of the salary cap. 35% of the salary cap isn't 233 million.

We don't know what the salary cap will be, but if you were going off this season:

$123.655 million for the salary cap
35% of that is $43,279,250 million.

$43,279,250 x5 is 216,396,250

Ah, but they do! They help us tank for a better pick.

Quick knows less about the CBA than I do, and I don't know much

I don't think it's a coincidence that Quick came up 174M as a 4 year target when I came up with 174M a little earlier in the thread. It means he's probably assuming a 130M cap. What he's failing to do is account for the fact that Portland can offer 8% step raises while other teams can only offer 5% raises

but that's really irrelevant. It's just fucking noise you're pushing. NOBODY believes for one fucking second that Grant is going to demand Portland pay 47M a year. Yet you keep spouting that number as a real possibility. Your argument is skunk piss

If I had to guess what his contract will be this July, it's going to be in the 5 year, $150m range. Though my guesses on Nurk, Ant, Powell, Meyers, Crabbe, etc. were all low.

actually Grant will be a 9 year vet so only eligible for a 30% max. If it's a 130M cap, Grant's base salary would be 39M on a max. A 5 year deal would include 10 step raises of 8%, or an additional 31M.

that would be 226M. It would also be nonsense because he isn't going to ask for that and he isn't going to get anywhere close to that.
