Radiohead - Optimistic

The music was great, carried me through the whole song, it had a simplistic powerful punch to it. The video was cool, as well.

Youtubing.

John Frusciante - A Song to Sing When I'm Lonely
Invalid Video Link

B

That has always been one of my least favorite Frusciante songs. The lyrics don't sync up with the song in that they're very upbeat lyrics set to a very sad sounding song. The sound quality on this video wasn't the greatest either. Some nights Frusciante sounds really clear, and other times, like this concert, his voice sounds too raspy.

New Song:

Eric Burdon & War - Spill the Wine

I just noticed my video wasn't working.

One second, and I'll find another version.

Bummer... the only full version available on YouTube has lousy audio quality.

Here it is anyway, but keep the quality in mind when listening to it. There are better sounding versions out there... I promise...

Eric Burdon & War - Spill the Wine - B

Damn man, how old is this song? Or is it just the quality from that "music video" that is poor? That's good stuff though with a nice simple beat to it, just a bit boring after a few seconds until they added that flute type instrument. I'm actually not sure what that is, it could just be a simple flute I don't have the ears for those type of instruments actually. Anyway, I like the chorus kick and the song makes me shake up in my seat listening it.

Next song is from Sigur R?s as I mentioned in another thread.

Sigur R?s - S?gl?pur

Invalid Video Link

One of the most compelling and deep tracks ever recorded. Off of their album Takk... which features many more amazing tracks like Gl?s?li, Hopp?polla, M?lan?, Gong and Svo hlj?tt.

A+

I'm loving these guys. They're in the same vein of music as two of my other favorite groups at the moment Air and Venus (thanks for that rec.).

Maybe some of the lure to this band for me is that their lyrics aren't English. It leaves the song open to my interpretation.

The video was sort of disturbing though, especially without knowing lyrical content of the song.

And btw, that song I posted isn't that old, the person who uploaded it just had a crummy sounding version of it, and that's all I could find on YouTube

New Song:

Lovin' Spoonful - Summer in the City

Don't forget about M?m, Half Asleep and others too. Any luck on Youtube then?

VC: B+ I liked what they were singing about and the music was played rather nicely. It was a chill beat. It was the first time I have heard that song, it sounds pretty cool. Defiantly a song you would play at a party or the beach.

When this song came out, I thought Franz Ferdinand would be a much different band than the one they've become, but I still think that a lot of the songs on their debut album are great, like "The Dark of the Matinee."

This song, in particular, I overplayed like crazy when it first came out, so naturally, I also got really sick of hearing it over and over again, and haven't listened to it in a while. The intro is the best part of the song, but the rest is damn catchy.

Amazing amazing amazing! Love the vocals all around, especially the backing vocals and the music is beautiful.

Let's continue the Chili love fest.

RHCP - Warlocks

Warlocks: A-

It's a good song. I never really listened to it that much when I first got SA for whatever reason, but it grew on me I guess. Doesn't really mean anything to me particularly but it's Chili Peppers so it gets nothing less than an A.

New Song:
Mellowship Slinky in B Major - RHCP (mua ha ha ha)
Invalid Video Link

A

This always sounded a lot like Show Me Your Soul to me.

It's definitely the Chilis from their prime though. It's like the best qualities of old RHCP mixed with the best of new RHCP.

It's interesting to hear at the end of the song Frusciante go off into a short solo, because I think that sounds a lot more like something he'd write today than something he'd write back then. I like it.

New Song:

I love the effects with about 1:30 left in the song, absolutely amazing B-side. Love the bass line. Absolutely how the song fades out, like it's dying. Funky music, never heard this one before.

And it continues...A very underrated song on Stadium Arcadium.

RHCP - 21st Century

Love the solo from Johnny F. in this one.

GOOD LORD ALREADY!

We should just dub this the "RHCP Recommendations Game" or something.
I understand having favorite bands and all, but Jeebus Christmas people!

That solo kind of saved it. I really love some stuff off of SA, and really hate the other stuff. RHCP really needs to grow on their next album or they'll be losing a fan.

Next up, is some real crazy experimental stuff. Yesterday on 7/7/07, a Japanese noise band, Boredoms turned out with 77 of their friends and put on one of the greatest live shows ever. Set in the form of a spiral (see below), the 77 drummers played for 77 minutes. Now, the three following videos really don't do any of this justice, but I thought I'd share nonetheless...

Lol, truth be told, I was just going along with it to **** with ya, and hey it worked...

Stadium Arcadium does kinda suck though, but D+ is still harsh. That's just like going out of your way to say "**** you" to us for rec'ing a string of Chilis videos, lol.

I don't have working speakers on this computer, because I'm in the car on my laptop, so I can't listen to your video atm, but was it apart of Live Earth?

On a sidenote, we're hotboxing and blairing Queen atm. Amazing.

No, it wasn't a part of Live Earth. **** Live Earth. Boardrum was something much more excellent. Sounds good, I had a spin of Queen today, it had been a while.

My turn?

The Black Maria - Waking up with the Wolves

The Black Maria - Waking up with the Wolves - C-

Reminds me a bit of Finger Eleven's old stuff. The chorus and the bass are really poor, but the rest of the song is pretty basic although a bit enjoyable for the genre. That scream at the end was annoying as hell though trying to be like a black metal vocalist, eesh. Overall the song is not bad, but this is definitely not something I would buy.

New song is from Persephone's Bees - Muzika Dlya Filma

Invalid Video Link

Time for a little Russian, yeah? For some reason I find their vocalist Angelina Moysov very attractive. I guess it is the vocal tones, accent and that long dark hair.

BTW, the song isn't as long as the video so just end it whenever you want. I guess this person messed up or just wanted anything to go to the background of his/her pictures of Azerbaijan.

I also find it crazy that this band has become a part of mainstream commercials these days. Check it out this ad for Cingular with one of their tracks.

I liked her voice, but I'm not a big fan of Russian songs. It's very rare for me to enjoy a song from my own country. Weird.

The Von Bondies - C'mon C'mon
Invalid Video Link

Poor Sasha got completely skipped over with his 7/7/07 drumming video.

I also think it's sort of funny how people are so close minded with their musical tastes. Expand your horizons everyone!

C'mon C'mon - B+

I don't like pretty much anything else from these guys, but "C'mon, C'mon" is catchy as hell. One of the things I don't like about it though is how commercial it's become. It's on at least one or two commercials running on the air atm.

New Song:

Speaking of songs that are heavily commercialized...

The Zombies - Time of the Season

Invalid Video Link

This is a song that's overplayed, but it's still one of my favorites.

I thought someone got to Sasha's recommendation since his post wasn't the last one I seen. I'll have to check out his stuff in a bit and rate it 'just because.'

I agree about expanding musical tastes.

A throwback classic! Such a good groove, this'll go on my summer playlist for sure.
Thanks for reminding me.

Now, that song's bassline did remind me of another song I love...

Bela Fleck & The Flecktones - The Sinister Minister
Invalid Video Link

A+

Which brings to mind
a very sinister minister kind of guy
a man named Little Richard
born to make them bitches stir
that's right he'll make the sweet substance drip
from the middle of your hillbilly lips
and like the farmer milk his cow
the Howling Wolf will howl
and since times does allow
you all can
Take me to your backwoods now

That came to mind when I first heard this song, since it predates it.

I love this song though. I've seen these guys play live going on four times now. I've never been a huge fan of Victor Wooten, but I've always respected his abilities, much in the way I don't like Van Halen but will acknowledge his greatness.

Flea's not as fast as Wooten I don't think, but that's overrated, he's more skilled and a much better song writer. He's a million times more creative and original than Wooten too.

New Song:

Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale

Had a bluesy feel to it, liked it a lot. The video was full of awesome imagery that fit the song, as well.

Staind - How About You
Invalid Video Link
I know that I'm like of the few die hard Staind fan here, so I can take if someone shreds the song. I just love their music and their live shows are amazing. The video quality isn't the best, either. Song sounds so much better on the CD and live.

Staind - How About You - C-

I don't like to knock on Staind for vocals, just because I've seen them live. Unlike (about 95%) of media friendly bands/artists, Aaron actually sounds the same in person. The guitar work is always very similar and downtuned so much that when they try to get a downplayed rythem going it fails ever so miserably. The bass especially, you can't downtune a bass more then one level otherwise the strings become too loose, sound poor and then the instrument basically has no purpose. The song itself is alright, it has the basic nu-metal feel. I really enjoyed Staind's first album though, with my favorite tracks on there being "Raw" and "Suffocate."

New song is from VAST (Visual Audio Sensory Theater) - Touched

Invalid Video Link

My favorite song of 1998. One of the most underrated bands and vocalists today. I've always enjoyed how Crosby took the grunge and industrial genres and totally revamped them by combining elements with nice effects, acoustic work and sampling.

B-
The vocals with about 2:50 left were pretty cool, the music was good, vocals were on point. Something missing though, just can't put my finger on it.

More coffee shop music from me.

Rocco DeLuca and the Burden - Colorful
Invalid Video Link
The guy's from Lake Elsinore, about 5 minutes from me, but they're marketed out of Long Beach. I don't know, I've grown used to their music working at Starbucks, I wouldn't give it an A, but not lower than a C.

B

Nothing special really about it, but it was sort of catchy. I wouldn't coffee shop music though. It's more alternative rock than that.

BTW - That song M just recommended, amazing! He recommended VAST a month or two ago, and I've had them on my playlist ever since, especially "Touched." The samples in that are just haunting.

New Song:

A little Doobie Brothers for ya...

I've always ignored Southern Rock music, and I really regret it after all the rec's you've given me. I love the imagery and the music is so relaxing.
