None of these guys were born in the U.S., and most are not U.S. citizens, but they all somehow manage to stand on court during the playing of our national anthem.

Well those people better stay on the court. For example, Rudy's people owns the Trailblazers and pay him a large amount of money. Where as Roy's people do not own the Blazers and don't pay him money.

I don't know if Roy is making a political statement, except insofar as he is NOT making a political statement. That political statement is that I respect those who take the National Anthem seriously.

Clearly, some players take the National Anthem seriously themselves, while I'm sure some are actively disgusted by what it represents. But their attendance during its playing demonstrates respect for the fans who give a hoot.

Roy choosing that time to do his own thing is saying, "I don't care about that." He doesn't need to come out and SAY it, because his actions indicate it.

It's not important to me that he cares about it, and I (personally) think the National Anthem before games is more pomp and circumstance than patriotism, but I also think it's a legit thing for people to discuss and even be critical of him about.
