From Casey:
Brandon Roy has successful surgery to repair torn meniscus. Will be sidelined for at least 1-2 weeks, will not travel for first playoff game

That estimation can't be right. Maybe that 1-2 weeks thing is the amount of time he needs to be off his knee completely; then at least a week or so for rehab? Or maybe, the tear was really minor?

Chris Paul made it back very fast from this same injury. He wasn't 100% but he was effective. I can't remember total timeline though.

Awesome. I think he had the surgery now because he knew the Suns series would be a cakewalk. Having him against the Spurs or Mavs would be amazing.

This is roughly my thought too. Maybe the surgery recovery will be quick enough he can play in a later series if we make it there.

So if the team can win this one for "The Gimper" we could have him back for the second round.

Sweet.

The way I look at it, the only reason to have "rushed" into surgery this week is for a quick turnaround on what is already a short recovery, and that can only mean they're hoping he can play in this year's playoffs. 1-2 weeks seems awfully short, but it has to fit in with the team's thinking to some degree.

Roy possibly only out 1-2 weeks?

Is this just being spun to give us hope, or could he really be back in just a few weeks?

Re: Roy possibly only out 1-2 weeks?

more from Blazers edge:
Obviously the phrase "at least 1-2 weeks" jumps off the page, especially considering that it is significantly lower than the 4-6 week timeline Roy cited on Monday when he was planning to have the same surgery during the off season.

Asked about the significantly more ambitious timeline and the potential for a return during the playoffs for Roy, Nate McMillan stated, "We know that he is out for this series here. We're going to play without him for the first series." Asked to explain the shortened recovery timeline, McMillan said, "We've got to listen to what the doctors are saying. That's the time frame they gave us. And a lot of times they base that off of what they did during the surgery."

You never fully know how damaged the knee is until you open it up, so perhaps they opened it up and saw that everything actually looked decent and there was just a tiny little tear.

At least we know this injury isn't very serious.

We actually talked about this the other day. 1-2 weeks is the very least time it would take. Average is 4-6 weeks, but I was told a story about a wrestler who had the surgery and was competing in the state championships 2.5 weeks later. So 2-3 weeks IS possible. They might rush it if it's a close series.

Maybe they opened it up and saw -- there was nothing wrong at all. Oops, just a bruise. Carry on then! :devilwink:

Lets hope that the Blazers are sending someone over to Roy's house to give him sponge baths for the next couple of weeks.

Please Roy, no showers.

I laughed, but not funny sly

It's been a really really strange season with injuries. I still cringe when I think of Joel falling in the shower and requiring more surgery.

While meaning it as a joke I kind of hope Roy only takes baths for a while.

I don't know why you'd want a 6'6 guy with a knee injury taking a bath - it is far more dangerous than taking a shower.

Getting out of a slippery and too small bath-tub with a bad knee is a bad idea.

I bet he has a custom bathtub. Something like this -
