From ESPN Insider:
On several occasions this season, Rudy Fernandez talked openly about frustration over his role with the Trail Blazers.
There have been rumblings Fernandez could return to Spain and play.
So enter the New York Knicks.
From Jonathan Abrams of the New York Times: "The Knicks have engaged in trade discussions with the Portland Trail Blazers in hopes of prying guard Rudy Fernandez, according to an NBA executive ... If the talks proceed, the Knicks will most likely part with Wilson Chandler or Toney Douglas."
By the end of the season, Douglas became the closest thing to the Knicks' starting point guard going forward, so it's likely they'd hand the keys over to Fernandez if Douglas indeed gets traded to the Blazers in return.
But it may come down to what the Knicks have to offer draftwise, which isn't much. Abrams writes that "another league executive said Fernandez was available but Portland was hoping to land a draft selection with any trade that he is involved in. As of now, the Knicks hold only the 38th and 39th picks, in the second round."
A late first-round pick could possibly be more enticing to the Trail Blazers, because as we noted earlier on Wednesday, they're after Elliot Williams
If a deal involving Fernandez doesn't go through, the Knicks could pick up another point guard via the draft.
ESPN's Chad Ford currently has the Knicks selecting Maryland's Greivis Vasquez with the No. 39 pick:

Vasquez good for O, but D needs work
"Vasquez is getting looks in the late first round by both Memphis and Orlando, but he should be a good fit for New York and coach Mike D'Antoni, who has always liked big point guards that can see the floor and shoot the basketball. Vasquez won't be able to guard anyone, but on the offensive end, he's got talent."
