Rudy to New York being discussed?

From ESPN Insider:

On several occasions this season, Rudy Fernandez talked openly about frustration over his role with the Trail Blazers.
There have been rumblings Fernandez could return to Spain and play.
So enter the New York Knicks.
From Jonathan Abrams of the New York Times: "The Knicks have engaged in trade discussions with the Portland Trail Blazers in hopes of prying guard Rudy Fernandez, according to an NBA executive ... If the talks proceed, the Knicks will most likely part with Wilson Chandler or Toney Douglas."
By the end of the season, Douglas became the closest thing to the Knicks' starting point guard going forward, so it's likely they'd hand the keys over to Fernandez if Douglas indeed gets traded to the Blazers in return.
But it may come down to what the Knicks have to offer draftwise, which isn't much. Abrams writes that "another league executive said Fernandez was available but Portland was hoping to land a draft selection with any trade that he is involved in. As of now, the Knicks hold only the 38th and 39th picks, in the second round."
A late first-round pick could possibly be more enticing to the Trail Blazers, because as we noted earlier on Wednesday, they're after Elliot Williams
If a deal involving Fernandez doesn't go through, the Knicks could pick up another point guard via the draft.
ESPN's Chad Ford currently has the Knicks selecting Maryland's Greivis Vasquez with the No. 39 pick:

Vasquez good for O, but D needs work
"Vasquez is getting looks in the late first round by both Memphis and Orlando, but he should be a good fit for New York and coach Mike D'Antoni, who has always liked big point guards that can see the floor and shoot the basketball. Vasquez won't be able to guard anyone, but on the offensive end, he's got talent."

Alan Hahn said if they trade Chandler/2nd rounder, it'll save the Knicks $1m

I'm always hesitant about players that play on terrible teams in wide open offenses, but getting anything for Rudy at this point is a score, and Chandler is a pretty decent player and is only 23. I'd probably do this assuming nothing else is out there.

He's kind of a tweener much like Outlaw was, but he'd be a good option off the bench.

If all we can get for Rudy is the 38th pick or Wilson fucking Chandler I'd just keep him on the roster.

Could he compain about playing time? Sure, but that doesn't mean you dump him for lesser talent. John Nash would, and he did similar moves while here, and that ended up being a large part of why this team was a joke for 5 seasons.

Wilson Chandler is a much better player than Rudy.

i'd be pretty happy if we got wilson chandler for rudy

Maybe it would be a good idea to wait to see what kind of a trade KP actually makes for Rudy (if any) before critcizing him over a rumored trade.

Is there anybody here who thought Rudy would be anything but a very good role player for the Blazers for years to come? Were people wanting him traded after his rookie season? I would have been pissed unless it was part of a huge deal. Seems easy to criticize Pritchard for not maximizing Rudy's value after his rookie deal, but why would he be dealt? His contract made getting anything of equal value back near impossible. Still does, actually.

Chandler is a sub-14 PER player with a limited outside game. I don't see how he fits into this team.

I think what people were thinking last year (I'll admit to being one) was that, while Rudy was exciting and special and doing great things, he wasn't being used as much as he could/should, and wouldn't ever really get there as either Brandon's backup or in Nate's offense. I'm too lazy to go back and check, but I'd surmise that most of the people wanting him traded were looking at it from that perspective.

And color me unexcited about Chandler, Douglas or the 38/39 picks.

High-ranking source: Blazers have better deals for Fernandez than what NYK are offering. Rudy to NYC won't happen

Wilson fucking Chandler fucking averaged 15 fucking points a fucking game last fucking year.

That's fucking way fucking better than fucking Rudy fucking Fernandez.

And points are everything.

Have you considered the fact that Chandler plays on one of the fastest paced teams in the league, and for a coach that has no discretion about any of his players jacking shots, while Rudy plays for Nate in POR?

Those are the operative words. The NBA is not Europe.

Today's NBA is a slower, far less interesting game that all but ignores the fundamentals, rigged outcomes, absurdly over-inflated egos in it for money not for love of the game...

Definitely not Europe. :sigh:

And somewhat ironically, I feel the competitive European basketball leagues (EUROleague, ACB, Greek, etc) are more physical than the NBA.
