I like the addition of Lofton.

Apropos of absolutely nothing... his stock went down in my mind when I found out he wasn't the son of this Kenny Lofton...

this was actually kinda cool. speaks to the merits of solo workouts, and how important bringing them in house.

It reminds me of interview processes in the corporate field where dinner with candidates the night before was more informative than the whole set of the meetings on the interview day. the guy I'm waiting on is Sharpe.

i used to be in on eason but after hearing how bad his bbiq is I’m totally out. Even the most athletic players are useless without good bbiq (see Travis outlaw or Thomas Robinson)

Here's a little more (From The Athletic):

Tari Eason
6-foot-8 forward
21 years old
LSU
Vecenie’s draft positioning: No. 18 to theBulls

His numbers at LSU were off the charts and his defense was impressive. But the abstract topic of “feel,” specifically as a scorer, comes up during conversations about him. He is very right-hand dominant. He had more than twice as many turnovers as he did assists this season. Do you believe in his scoring despite that? And if not, how improvable is this flaw?

Assistant GM: Offensively, he makes a lot of bad decisions and misses a lot of passes. Defensively, he’s very active and instinctual, but he’s not very disciplined, and I know that at both places he played in college (Eason transferred from Cincinnati to LSU), they felt like he had a hard time understanding and adhering to defensive and offensive schemes. But on defense, they just turned him loose: ‘Go do whatever you want’ and hope it works out for the best, which it usually did. But his ability to understand schemes and follow the game plan were always concerns.I think he chose to play very selfishly on offense at times. I think that given his instinctual reactions on defense, I believe it can improve if he chooses to take a more passing-oriented approach. NBA spacing will help with that, too, but I don’t love it. I don’t think he’s Kawhi Leonard. He’s got a Leonard body: big hands, long arms. But his game is as an energy big with a little bit of shooting.

Added note: I highly doubt any of this is a 'smokescreen', because why would his former college coaches have any reason to devalue him as a player?

I completely agree with you by the way. I used to be "Sochan or Eason" but after watching more of Eason it became really, really clear that he has a low BBIQ .. and I'm rather low on him now.

Dinner is key. I always had a pre interview meal (dinner preferably) with candidates I hired. Liked to bring my wife and kids too to see how they interacted with different people

i'm kinda hesitant on it too, but it's really hard to be as productive a perimeter/wing defender as him without some sorta bball smarts. really think it's a smokescreen based on a continuing narrative.

That's kind of why I overlooked it originally; and defensively he seems to have some instincts, but with some more thought I think it's just because he's bigger, faster, stronger and more athletic than mostly everyone else he's playing.

Evan Battey is a big, thick forward (6'8", 260) who can stroke from outside (shot nearly 50% from 3 this year). I'm sure he's too slow and ground-bound to be a legit player, but I could see him finding his way onto a roster as a pick-and-pop threat off the bench. Plus he's just got a great story, recovering from a stroke in his freshman year.
He could be a steal if you can get him in the second. He has a lot of upside. I read where he likens himself to be a Draymond Green type player. I like confident players. They don't back down.

Some of you dorks take this shit way too seriously lolol

You take shit on here seriously all of the time... obviously getting heated on the regular but then you have the hypocritical gall to call other posters dorks. You're pretty toxic man.

Question? do you think the team is waiting on bringing in their tier guys on their board last, for a better comparisons? Any strategy in that? Or is it just logistics on when they can come?

I think we've brought in more guys projected top 12 than any other team.

I can't keep track so I and may be wrong, but it sure seems that the pace of bringing prospects in for workouts went way up after the initial news Portland was hiring Schmitz

With Sochan vs. Eason, the combine measurements were great for Eason, but watching video of him ... dropping passes ... fumbling even with big mitts ... a bit all over the place (awkward) in moves that worked out on O ... vs. Sochan who looked like he can become elite on D with some early playmaking skills. Sochan is about option 5 for me at #7.

Sharpe is working out with OKC as well. That means he's been at DET/NOP/CHA/OKC

not in portland. he attended sharpe's proday.

sharpe is the one guy i care most about bringing in house and spending time with him to get to know him better.

Every credible scout says he's the real deal. Anthony Edwards with a better jumper. They should swap with Sacramento.

I am off Eason unless its with a late first or 2nd rd pick

Unless they're looking to trade down, that would be a massive leap up the boards.
Many think he's low to mid teens, but Im thinking because he could be the best defender in the draft he could go as high as 5. What teams could use a 6'9 on ball defender that can guard 1-5?
I say NO at 8. If we don't take him at 7.

Besides Ivey and the mystery man (Sharpe), only Mathurin looks like a guard for consideration in the Blazers’ range. [Daniels having the height, length, and D to play the 3.]. And Ivey is gone by 7.

So who is actually in the running at 7?
Murray, Sharpe, Mathurin, Daniels, Duren — Is Murray the only one Cronin hasn’t seen during these workouts?

Nearby? Sochan. Dieng a reach at 7. Guards start showing up in the lottery.

Teams are not going to tip the cards as to who they like best, workout or not.
Yeah, may hear some general feedback from video/reporter take but, nothing from those determining what their needs are and who has gone up or down on their board.
Ive yet to hear from Joe or Chauncey on feedback from workouts or interviews.
Its their job to keep US guessing and that doesn't require a lot of effort.

Only thing I heard from someone at the workout was that they loved Duren

That does not mean they didn’t like anyone else, but they liked him
