Rhal -- thanks for putting all those tweets together. I don't buy that the NBA really raised any eyebrows about the Hansen and Maloof interaction until this weekend, when the backup deal was announced. Before that, it was pretty much purely a buyer/seller relationship and that had to happen if Hansen wanted to buy the team. At most, maybe the NBA was annoyed that Hansen had the deal locked up so that the Maloofs couldn't negotiate freely with Ranadive, but that's pretty standard business practice and they couldn't have been too surprised.

Once the 20% ownership purchase was announced, I can understand why the NBA got annoyed. The way the facts are coming down, the Maloofs could be set up pretty well for a law suit...even better than the Hansen group and, of course, they wouldn't be worried about burning bridges with the NBA like Hansen and Balmer probably would.

If the NBA forces the Maloofs to sell to Ranadive, the Maloof could point to:
1. Lost profit of $65 million
2. Erratic NBA process that extended timing multiple times to allow Sac to play catch up and also disclosed to Sac that it's offer was inadequate so that Sac could increase
3. Preventing Maloofs from obtaining funding to maintain ownership (aka rejection of the Hansen back up deal)
4. NBA consideration of the Ranadive deal despite Maloof's insistence that it not be considered

Obviously, the back up deal adds another big factor to the list. The list of bad facts is long enough and significant enough that the Maloofs could make some pretty strong claims. Apparently, the Maloofs are subject to an arbritration clause, which could stop them from going straight to court. That said, Seattle sports radio interviewed an attorney yesterday, who seemed to think the Maloofs could beat that arbitration clause. As far as damages that that court might award to the Maloofs, that $65 million is a pretty good starting place and they'd probably try for treble/triple damages by claiming the NBA willfully violated the law. $65 million times three would obviously be pretty painful to the NBA.

All of which is to say, assuming the owners force the sale to Ranadive, they could have a big mess on their hands. I get that they're annoyed at the thought of dealing with the mess, but they created the situation. The rabblerouser in me wouldn't mind seeing it all go south and both Hansen and Maloofs taking on the NBA...it would be interesting to watch. The more sane side would like to see both Sacramento and Seattle end up with a team.

Any chance there's someone tracking this closely and looking for the announcement that would be willing to email me the announcement if it lands between 1 and 2? I'm in a meeting from 1 to 2 and it's one that I can't be hitting reload on the phone constantly.

I will pay everybody $5 to NOT tell mobes23 what happened! He will be useless in that meeting!

Dang, that's cold.

The meeting is focused on a developing a drug that is very successfully curing certain types of cancer with minimal side effects. Does that help my case?

We also sling the HCP acronym around frequently in that meeting, but everyone (other than me) is thinking healthcare provider when they use it.

Between 1 and 2 I will not be in a meeting and will be getting the up to the second tweets FAMS!

So, HCP is really a nurse? That's scary.

Maybe. Or maybe he's into hamster cheek pouches. WTF is that about? In whose world do they use 'hamster cheek pouch" so much that they've turned it into an acronym? Bunch of sickos I bet.

Seattle sports radio now saying a meeting between Hansen and the NBA actually did happen yesterday in secret

Hansen and Balmer apparently just came downstairs and are now presenting...

Hansen, the Who (any old timers remember who I'm talking about) and others just stepped out of meeting...he has not yet addressed media and not sure yet if he will. The Seattle group was smiling as they left and shaking hands.

KJ (and I assume Ranadive but no mention of him by the reporter) is headed in now. I still think it's weird that KJ is leading things...and it's strange he's even in the meeting today. You'd think it would be all about the owners.

Edit: Hansen and crew presented approx. 20-30 minutes. If KJ's crew sticks to the same time frame, they should be done around 12:45 and then it's time for deliberation and voting. All right HCP, I'm depending on you to email me if it happens between 1 and 2...don't let me down. I sent a pm to you with my email address.

Sure...most of the media seems to think it's going Sac's way, but there's also a little intrigue going on.

I'm so fucking confused about this soap opera. Hopefully we find out before next season? LOL

That gif in your sig is missing the best part, when he looks straight at the camera.

No doubt...it's been a crazy process. There will be a lot of clarity today, but I'm pretty sure a lot will be unresolved too.

Don't we want Sacramento to win this battle? Seems after the Seattle/OKC debacle the NBA is now giving cities every chance to keep their team. Someday PA or Jody Allen will sell the team and when they do shouldn't Portland be given every chance to keep our team?

I hate to say it, but the key will be staying ahead of the arena issue. Have a decent arena, then you're good. If you don't, then you lose your team. No matter what the decision is today, that will be the takeaway.

Don't we have some 20 year lease? I guess it could be broken though....

I think Allen should give the team back to Portland. Like the Packers in Green Bay.

The Maloofs must be hurting for cash. I have been in Vegas this week and The Palms had $5 BJs.

Did you see from who though?

Owners have been deliberating since 1:25. I'd think the more time that goes by is a sign that Hansen has a chance. Yesterday, it sounded like the BoG was going to rubberstamp the committee recommendation.

On the twitter feed, Cuban and the Celtics owner had an animated conversation during the break. A couple other owners joined and then Stern walked over and also got animated. No one seems to know what they were talking about, so maybe they were just talking wedding gift ideas or something.

Maloofs have left the room. No word yet on whether they're smiling....most all of the twitters have been very focused on whether people are smiling lol

Guessng that means things might be wrapping up.
