How are you feeling about Scoot?

I was skeptical about Scoot initially. A guard who lacks a jumper can be a liability in today’s game and I was worried that people were enamored with a few highlight dunks they saw on YouTube.

Then I started coming around to the idea that he would make an impact since so many outlets were raving about him.

Now that I see him play more, he seems like his body is a few steps ahead of his brain and that lack of a jump shot is hurting his ability to drive. I know he’s supposed to be confident, but I worry that he’ll keep missing and then it becomes an even bigger mental block. I still have hope that he can turn it around and I won’t call him a bust this year. I just hope he gets in a ton of shooting practice and learns to slow down mentally.
His body is a few steps ahead of his mind….. I think you just described every 19 year old boy in the world.

Seems like a lot of people here will be surprised when scoot drops a triple double tonight. We win tonight, Toronto aint good.

I went back and looked at a few past drafts and there's depressingly many high-picked PGs who were either total busts or have turned into journeymen. Any of these a good comparison for Scoot? (Common theme: they have at least one major weakness, usually shooting.)
2014
5 Dante Exum
6 Marcus Smart
2015
2 D'Angelo Russell (the rare guy in this list for whom shooting is NOT the issue)
7 Emmanuel Mudiay (big PG who can't shoot - this is worst case scenario territory)
2016
5 Kris Dunn (hey, the Jazz have given him a home...)
2017
2 Lonzo Ball (until injuries killed his career, this was pretty much best case scenario: looked bust-ish early but actually acquired a shot!)
5 D'Aaron Fox (unless THIS is BCS - he was definitely "meh" early on, and still wasn't worth passing on Doncic, but I think if Scoot turned into him it would be a win)
8 Frank Ntilikina (just dropped out of the league finally?)
9 Dennis Smith (him and Kris Dunn can do the Spiderman pointing at each other thing)
2020
7 Killian Hayes (stop sending us PGs who can't shoot, France)
2021
5 Jalen Suggs (optimism: he looked TERRIBLE as a rookie and is now a starter on a promising young team)
2022
5 Jaden Ivey (did Killian Hayes move ahead of him in the rotation? Ouch.)

Toronto can't shoot but defend like motherfuckers. They either get blown out or demolish teams. My prediction: the latter.

It's very rare at this point in the season to have a common opponent but on the front end of a back to back the Raptors lost by seven to the team that beat us by 28 last night. Vegas gives the Raptors 8.5 points and ESPN gives them a 76% chance of beating us. Either your joking around (which is most likely) or you're not remembering that even if "Toronto aint good" we're worse.

If he doesn’t develop an outside shot….he’s gotta shoot 40% plus or minus from outside or I’ll consider him a bust

He's shot a grand total of ONE FT so far. But hey, even worse, the same is true of Ayton! (But at least Ayton is averaging nearly a rebound every 2 minutes.)

Im not about to call him a bust. He’s young and needs time define himself. With that said, if he is a bust, note who drafted him. Joe Cronin a numbers guy. A capologist who is prob best suited in that role. So if he goes that direction, Joe prob shouldn’t be doing the drafting.

When you are drafting that it’s best to get the sure thing. If you look at some of teams previous drafts in which they drafted that high in the last 20 years. They’ve done great in picking a guy who was ready to produce. Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Damian Lillard. All great picks and we’re ready to produce on day one and they did. It’s not to much to ask the guy they took at three is ready to produce. Being a lottery team they can use it. Kevin Pritchard and his line of advisors including did great in picking the right guy. Including Chad Buchanan who did most of the work on Damian. I’ve got concerns with Cronin. And before you say Shaedon..,I love his athletic ability but I’m not completely sold on him as most of you are. It’s wait and see on both players. But if they are busts they need to relegate Joe back to being a capologist

You lost all credibility right there. He's the 2nd best player on the team after Simons and he's 20 and looks like he has no ceiling on talent and could be a top-3 player in the League in his prime if he develops a strong handle and learns NBA defense.

Not joking, just irrational optimism

It's not like a 1 in 4 chance is astronomically unlikely... it's good to be optimistic and if I'm remembering correctly you're not one of the people that melts down in every game thread when we lose a game we weren't favored in.

Is Ivey a point guard? He seems like a CJ.

Yes, asking for your opinion IS pointless.

"Have you lived here your whole life?"
"Not yet."
Still I agree this is best visited in a couple years.
If that is my opinion and you feel it’s pointless then so be it.
