Dame is not the kinda guy to go about this clandestine way to get Olshey fired. If he wanted Neil gone, he woulda told Jody straight up and it would be done without much noise (like the situation in Minny where they got Rosas out in a single afternoon). All this investigation does is shed unnecessary light on a potentially bad situation. Still not sure I get the motive. Perhaps they didn't anticipate it getting out in public.

A legit reason to do the investigation is to see what's wrong with the culture, who else contributed, and provide assurance to additional parties this will be independently fixed. This could be bigger than just keeping or firing Neil.

Chris Mannix says Ainge is a target for future GM, but unsure of his interest.

ugh

The Portland Trail Blazers are in the midst of an investigation into workplace misconduct on the part of General Manager Neil Olshey. While that investigation is still in its early days, there is speculation it could result in Olshey being fired.

If Portland does move on from Olshey, there is an expectation that former Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge could be a target to run the team's basketball operations. Ainge retired from Boston's front office at the end of the 2021 season and has remained a consultant to Brad Stevens and the Celtics.

At this point, there is no indication that Ainge would be interested in running the Blazers front office.

Ainge is from Oregon, having grown up in Eugene. Ainge was a three-sport star at North Eugene High School. Ainge garnered first-team All-American honors in football, basketball and baseball.
I dont think Ainge would be a good choice as GM, but he would be an excellent part time advisor for the GM and Jody, basically as Jerry West was in Mem and GS.

Should have just fired his ass when we let Terry go. At the very least we wouldn't have to hear @THE HCP go on about how "it wasn't the roster" or whatever the bullshit was that Neil said.

They wouldn't be doing an "investigation" if it wasn't a forGone conclusion IMO.
If only it worked like that. They do their OWN investigation because they know the accusations would've come out anyway and they want to get ahead of it. And what do you know? The investigation shows that he deserves a tap on the wrist.

Olshey is their guy.

Jerry West politely but firmly requests that you refrain from putting his name anywhere near Ainge's.

Their own investigation wouldn't be public, IMO.
Olshey is as good as gone.

i think it is most likely also a CYA move. If they fired him without an investigation for these allegations, he could sue for wrongful termination. By doing an investigation they can point to the due diligence they conducted.
Wrongful termination doesn't happen in the NBA. They're allowed to fire without cause whenever they want, they just have to pay the balance of the contract. The investigation is only to cover the organizations ass if they want to get out of paying him or more likely they want to make sure everyone knows that Olshey is a bad apple so if he gets hired by another organization the shit he pulls can't come back to bite Vulcan.

Darren Erman is an assistant coach for NY now I think and been in the NBA a long time. Got fired for recording Mark Jackson secretly. No investigation just fired and moved on. The shady stuff that goes on is incredible. No investigations.

are they waiting for the team to return from the road trip to announce something? still no leaks.

It's not like they are going to ruin the trip
billups said that it's unfortunate timing considering the upcoming brutal schedule to have this hanging over their heads (this was after the laker game).

I think dame/chauncey would do a good job insulating the team a bit from letting it affect the gameplay much. But the distraction of having guys answer questions about it pre/post game would be hard to avoid.

waiting to return home to address the roster would make sense I suppose.

It's not like we are winning anyway. Maybe it would help to hear it. Feel like a fresh start.

It's also not like we're reeling and playing very poorly. The last two teams we played were on 4 and 5 game win streaks, respectively when we played them. If we lose against Houston, I'd be alarmed, but nearly everything coming from both Lillard and Chauncey has been optimistic even with the losses.

Through the first 20 games, I expected us to be somewhat close to .500 given our tough schedule. I don't think we're that far away where we need a fresh start.

Who was that Kim guy that Olshey fired? What was that for again? Saying LaMarcus was going to leave?
