Shams: Olshey being investigated for workplace misconduct

It's baffling this take still exists. Like its just okay for bosses to treat you like shit and the blame falls on the employee because they aren't strong enough?

Like, do you realize how stupid and insensitive that sounds? Do you also realize people are in different lots in life and just can't quit jobs because they have families to feed and mortgages to pay?

Just a really insensitive take.
Consider the source of the take. For all we know, that may be standard Eastern European sensibilities that are baffling you.

Regardless of if he is innocent or not.. his reputation is shot with todays cancel culture he is effectively canceled and won't be a gm in the nba anymore. While I'm not a fan of Oshley there is a sentiment in todays age to shoot first ask questions later. Just look at all the pitchforks raised against Billups for a crime he was innocent and the outcry from fans.. Hopefully we get a new gm who will not run back a failed roster over and over and waste our best palyers primes in the future.

so they were supposed to know the information, that the FBI was investigating and took years to figure out, about the assistant coach?? And did they "fire" the investigator because the job was done or because of some other reason?

So much Canzano like info there...

theres difference between sexual harassment, racism, physical violence, insults or humiliation, which are the things im against obviously, but if your boss is a jerk who likes to yell at workers or be unpleasant in some other way, i dont think thats something someone should get fired for... sure, thats not nice either and we should treat people with respect, regardless of their race, religion, age, gender, nationality, social class etc, but some things you shouldnt take seriously

from what we know about this story is that neil olshey acts like a jerk, but thats not something he should get fired for... unless we hear something serious
Why would really good candidates want to work for a jerk? Even if we disregard the humanity of treating people with respect, it's a dumb business strategy.

that's pretty fucking dumb...who the hell is that guy?

the Vulcans own the team. They could have fired Olshey at any time, without cause. They'd just have to pay the balance of the contract

which makes me wonder: is this investigation and attempt to fire Olshey "with cause" and terminate his contract?

...I wonder if one of the employees to file a complaint was the same employee who was allegedly "tipped off" by the infamous water bottle sip?! :dunno:

You kind of undermine your point by bringing up the VERY MUCH STILL EMPLOYED Billups as an example to support it.

Its not that it's OK. Nor am I really dismissing it. But toxic workplace cultures are ubiquitous and prevalent in every industry. It just raises my skepticism when the first whiff of this kinda news comes out 10 yrs into his tenure. While he was always prickly to the media, everything we heard about Olshey and our FO was the general feeling of good culture within.

Huh, the guy sporting Pepe the Frog, a noted hate symbol (https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols/pepe-the-frog) is opining on "cancel culture." Go figure.

And innocent is not the right word, at all.

Regardless of everything, however, Olshey's handling of the coaching hire and "search" was embarrassing. If he was to be canceled, it would have been then.

This is right from your own link…

“However, because so many Pepe the Frog memes are not bigoted in nature, it is important to examine use of the meme only in context. The mere fact of posting a Pepe meme does not mean that someone is racist or white supremacist. However, if the meme itself is racist or anti-Semitic in nature, or if it appears in a context containing bigoted or offensive language or symbols, then it may have been used for hateful purposes.”

So your analysis is: get accused of sexual assault - keep your job. Make a "your mom" joke - you're gone. Yeah, you've got your finger on the pulse.

I didn't call him a racist or a white supremacist, I merely said it was a noted hate symbol and used it to point out the irony of it all.

Over the years I have heard some first hand and second hand accounts of Olshey being a total asshat to people. Like cringeworthy treatment of people.

I have not heard of sexual assault or sexual harassment.
