Did you guys hear Quick on Issac and Suke today..

Oh boy he said there’s 1 guy on the team that might be causing problems who hasn’t bought in. Only clue he gave was it wasn’t Nurk

So their chief qualification is to not get fired or find a better job during all the bullshit of the Olshey era? Fuck that.

I prefer a GM who is opportunistic, clever, socially adept, analytical and above all ambitious. These guys are basically lichen who latched on to a good boulder.

I'd like to get Danny Ainge in a Jerry West-like consulting role, where he just strategizes behind the scenes while somebody like Brent Barry is the face of the management side of the franchise as the official GM. (Although TBH, I'd prefer a GM to be a minority. There are so many white guys in management jobs in the NBA.)

Ainge had a heart attack about a year ago I think, and also has ADHD. At this stage maybe he'd find that kind of role intriguing?

who gives a flying shit what Jason Quick has to say, the guy just stirs up shit for attention, and looked it worked because now you're trying to play investigator on who it could be. Fuck Jason Quick and John Canzano. We should really try to push them out the door after Neil goes.

I heard someone suggest Tayshaun Prince as a possible Olshey replacement. Said he's basically doing a lot of the GM work in Memphis. Given his connection with Billups, that could be a natural fit.

My coach in HS was run out of town after two years, but I actually appreciated his intensity compared to the next coach who came along. He wasn't perfect and it wasn't always easy, but I never had a more dedicated coach in all years of playing sports. Some parents complained and that's all it usually ever amounts to. Some people complaining. I don't think Neil is a bad GM and I think he takes the job seriously. I don't think it's very likely to create championship opportunities in Portland for any GM, and now that front office moves are being dictated by moral hysterics, it's just another avenue with which petty authoritarians have squandered any appeal for me for the things that I appreciate. This society is more and more just straight trash and it's people without scruples(whom think they have scruples) ruining it for everyone else who thinks truth matters more than feelings. I can't wait until they start firing coaches for yelling at players because it's "harmful". Weak. Weak. Weak. Life being dictated by theatre kids.

I just wanted to add about those concerned parents - they fucking ruined my senior year of basketball. Did they get a timeout for that? Were they concerned about my well-being or the lack of return for all the hard work I put in under the old coach? No, their outrage was selfish, myopic bullshit and I was just an externality of it. That's how it always is with moral authoritarians - they never get their own comeuppance. These people are far worse than Neil Olshey as human beings, I promise you.

I should also add that the same thing happened for my senior season of baseball. Parents complained about an assistant coach being rehired, so the AD told the head coach he couldn't hire him. Head coach resigns. I was never asked what I thought about the assistant coach despite playing varsity since my freshman year. So senior baseball season dramatically disrupted right before the start of the season. Four different head coaches in four years of varsity baseball. I don't know, maybe Neil is a closet Hitler and I am just wailing without evidence, but I saw this coming from the mob in the summer. I see this kind of subversion everywhere in society these days. Stories just completely blown out of proportion and context. It's like, yes, it's okay for the coach to yell at me when I fuck up. I don't care because I FUCKED UP. I don't cry about it, because I FUCKED UP. Then you have to say, wait maybe the coach got it wrong once or twice and HE FUCKED UP, we are all human. You forgive and acknowledge the dedication he's giving and the operant conditioning he lives in. Nope, we can't do that! We have to assume we are ALL FUCKING EGGSHELLS!!!
But we have long time respected professionals calling in to radio shows talking about what a shitty person Neil is and how toxic of an environment he has always created.

That's not the same as what you're describing.

That does sound intriguing. But if we're going with defensive-minded small forwards, I'm still hoping for Shane Battier...

I dont disagree. Was merely pointing out guys with experience. Obviously assistant gms aren't the only guys in the pool

Intriguing. I like that he has a connection with Chauncey and Memphis has been knocking their draft picks out of the park lately.

maybe the new GM won't trade away so many picks.
Is that supposed to be a criticism of Neil? Cuz if anything, i wish he was more aggressive in using picks for difference makers. He was too protective of them until the Roco trade

I was basing it on you saying how the Grizzlies have had a good slew of picks, well, if the Blazers were to get Tayshaun, it's because of Olshey's trading of picks, they're kind of limited on it for a year or 3 .

Those were my guesses too but based on the interview I’m thinking Roco because he did mention Cj does seem engaged in huddles and communicating with teammates during the timeouts and what have you
My other guess would be Larry Nance. He hasn't exactly been great for us.

Probably Roco though.

half of that seems valid. It seems to break down on "difference-makers"

Olshey has traded 5 Blazer first round picks for Afflalo, Plumlee, RoCo, and Nance. I don't see any difference makers there and certainly no needle movers. Maybe a cake-baker or two. Theory meets reality...maybe, depending on how you value picks: 23rd - 19th - 16th - 23rd - ?

im referring to the lack of an aggressive move like what MIL did when they got Holiday. High risk high reward. Neil has been historically very conservative, and that's been my biggest criticism of him.

I have no idea what Vulcan will do though.

if there is a malcontent on the roster, it would just about have to be a veteran whose role had been reduced

* RoCo's minutes and FGA's have been reduced, but not significantly. He is handling the ball much less this season. And his defense seems to be unfocused at times

* Nance has gone from over 31 minutes to 18 minutes and his shots have been cut nearly in half

* Zeller has gone from 21 minutes to 15 and his shots have dropped from 7 to 3. That's pretty significant. He did sign for the minimum but maybe he did that with assurances his role would be bigger

* CJ is shooting as much as he ever has and apparently isn't being held very accountable for his MeJ tendencies. But he's been the front-and-center candidate in every trade rumor that hasn't been about Dame. That would make buying-in a real leap of faith. I'd also think he knows full well that Olshey has always been firmly in his corner, and that Olshey may be gone
