Again, the Blazers should have hired Hammon.

So you honestly think Billups was thinking about being fired when he was building his coaching staff?I maintained at the time and I still maintain that Chauncey hired Scott Brooks as his assistant so that if the FO was thinking of firing him, they'd go "do we really want Scott Brooks to take over? Nah!"
Again, the Blazers should have hired Hammon.
You could Bifurcate that into proprietary and propulsory.I see...that's proprietary.

Look....
But often nobody knows if they're going to be good! Half the excellent coaches in the NBA I never heard of before they became coaches. The guy in Utah. The guy in Boston. The guy in Memphis. The guy in OKC...
I imagine he's referring to Will Hardy, Joe Mazzulla, Taylor Jenkins, and Mark Daigneault. I think the fact that you went with Snyder and Udoka kind of proves their point.I don't know who "nobody" is... I'm certain those in the business have a good understanding of who Synder, Udoka, etc were.
Just beacuse you don't know them doesn't mean they're unknown.
There is a guy named Ettore Messina who coaches in Europe. My bet is he’s probably pretty good.I imagine he's referring to Will Hardy, Joe Mazzulla, Taylor Jenkins, and Mark Daigneault. I think the fact that you went with Snyder and Udoka kind of proves their point.

LOL, I should have thrown in an extra made up oneThose aren't real people. You just made those names up!

There's a dog named @SlyPokerDog ...There's a woman named Becky Hammon...

It really wasn't so incredibly vague, it was actually quite easy to understand. I got it on my first try!The point is the same... You think those guys were unknown the NBA front offices? The guys in charge of firing/hiring coaches?
What the OP said was so incredibly vague, he could've been talking about Jerry Sloan and Bob Ford for all I know.

OP was responding to someone who said coaches should be replaced if there is an obvious replacement that is an upgrade, and their point was it's often difficult to know that for sure. Based on the fact that we see coaches replaced every year, it isn't an obvious science that someone is a clear upgrade.
This is a ridiculous question. Tyus Jones, Brandon Clarke, Xavier Tillman and Ziaire Williams were all major contributors for them last season and three of those guys were major contributors the season before that. Also that bench is balanced with guards, wings and bigs.Really? Whom do the Grizz have coming off the bench that's super-experienced?
C'mon now. She's a girrrrrl. How could she be any good. There's a woman named Becky Hammon...
Don't forget Danny Green when he gets healthy. The Grizzlies, and I am jealous tbh lol, are a way better position squad wise than we are. This is a ridiculous question. Rational next choice.Rollo Tomassi
You obviously didn't understand it on the first try because I never said the replacement would be known to be better, only that they would likely be better.
Will Hardy was promoted because he was the head assistant. Utah got lucky (or maybe unlucky - maybe they were hoping he would be shit so they could really tank). Our head assistant is Scott Brooks. I would rather take a chance on a G-League coach than have another retread like Scott Brooks. The thought that Will Hardy's (or insert any coach) abilities were unknown prior to getting hired in Utah is difficiult for me to believe. Is it all science? No. Is it more known than a guess? I'd sure hope so. Paying people 7 figures to guess seems unwise.
You had the "likely" modifying "be able to identify" not "be better". And the thing is, those guys had never coached at the NBA level nor were they "name" players or successful college coaches. So what are you basing your info on? That's like drafting a player whom you've only seen in workouts.
