I can say that that doesn't hold true with my hybrid...it doesn't change performance seasonally at all. When you buy one they tell you you have to start it once a week minimum, so that's the only issue I can think of. Lot of big car folks have had scary stories about hybrids but I can assure you, they are not true in most cases. I was told when I bought it new by many non hybrid owners that my battery life would be shortened after a few years....it's been 11.5 years and no signs of regression. Also it's zero issues for maintenance...can't say that about my Xterra at all. I've had to replace all kinds of stuff on it and both the vehicles have pretty much the same mileage on them since purchasing

All of the reports on hybrids give them top scores. It is the straight EVs that are giving people problems.

Heard Hurtz car rental will stop renting EVs, and are going to sell off the 20,000 they now own. And will not order anymore.

I will say I bought a rechargeable battery operated chain saw that died after one year and I went back and bought an electric one to replace it....the one with the electrical cord is still cutting wood.

I just bought a lithium 12v 100AH battery for my fishing boat. It has the same cells used in many EV batteries.

According the the product manual now in front of me.

Discharge temp range is -4F to 140F.

Charge temp range is 32F to 113F.

So according to this manual. They do not recommend charging their lithium battery below freezing.

I want one of those backup units that will power my cabin for days after a blackout. They're pricey though.

I read that also, and was curious enough to look into it - it seems that the issue was the cost of collision repair. Apparently people crash them a lot, and also Tesla wouldn't give them volume discounts on replacement parts.

Hybrid is where it's at for another 5 years or so. Once solid state batteries take hold at competitive prices that might flip the script.

“I wanted to come into work sir, but my car wouldn’t work”

And why didn’t you get an Uber?

“Well sir… Their car wouldn’t work either”

Lmao.

Had to leave for work at 6 am out by Troutdale.

Car: ice pickle

Uber: one that was 26 minutes away, the only one.

My roommate let me use their car to get to work (they have snow tires) or I had no way of getting to work.

This shit has been brutal man. I get factor meals sent to me each week on Wednesday and they have to keep cancelling. I'll get it someday lol

Just got internet back yesterday after going from Sat evening without it. Fiber optic cable severed and the most time fixing it was clearing ice and roads and getting power back to it. Kind of cool though as I had power the whole time, food, plenty of firewood, An Olympic speed skating rink for my uphill driveway...no trees crushed any lines...had mine all limbed up last year off the feed to my house. My son had several days of blackout in Eugene with no heat and two toddlers...they brought them out here as soon as the roads were clear enough to get outside my driveway....my son came and scooped out the wife's car in the dark last night...what a good son! Today is the first day she could go into town and watch the grandkids. Fortunately both my son and daughter in law have offices at home and work from home. I'm well prepared to shut the world off whenever necessary.

Love it!

I listened to the Blazers game on the radio but due to the shitty weather I had to hear the brosdcast with another station ghosting the Blazers broadcast in the background. Am I mistaken or did Tone sub for Holton as the color commentator with Travis in that win? I figure like Ayton, Holton couldn't get to the Arena

Very dark at 2. Another storm coming. I have to drive to Marin tomorrow. Hope weather not too bad.

Got email from Territorial Seed, located in Cottage Grove, that seed orders will be delayed.

I wonder how much cats remember. We really don't know. Best estimate, Lashanna was born early October 2022, which means she was weaned around Thanksgiving. She was then on her own, a little young kit trying to find food and shelter in a cold wet winter. Not always successfully. She must have been cold, hungry and scared often. By spring she was pregnant, still a kitten herself. No wonder she was malnourished when rescued with her six babies.

Does she remember? When she spends cold rainy days taking naps and playing with her toys in a warm house, with full bowl and clean box, does some part of her mind recall her hard times?

I am glad she adopted me so I am cared for.

I believe they absolutely remember their formative years and learn from them ...she's just lucky she found you because many will feel the cold and have to forage for their entire lives.

She might be food motivated. Perhaps you upgrade to Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers. It might be a blessing in disguise.

We have a rescue dog that had a miserable life before us. Every once in a while she has a nightmare where she cries out in heartbreaking agony in her sleep. We've named it her Viet Dog Flashback.

I'm not sure. I missed it.

2 minute report on why EVs struggle in extreme cold.

I've owned 3 Teslas and getting a Rivian in a week. The problem with cold is if you try to fast charge after it sits for hours in deep cold. Also yes loses range when it needs to heat cabin/battery. Also non Tesla chargers really suck.

In extreme cold if you need fast charging you should do it at the end of your trip when car is warm instead of at the begining when it's cold.

The biggest problem is lack of quality chargers out there. If there were plenty of reliable fast chargers every 10 miles you could do more short 10 minute charging stops and never have an issue.

The cold is actually beneficial for when the EV sits as you have almost 0 battery degradation.

Saw a Rivian on a flatbad tow truck yesterday.

It's weird how many of you didn't know that car batteries go dead in the cold.

Wait until you find out what really cold temperatures do to motor oil.

I love Mt Tabor, that's tough to see.
