Some (not entirely credible) rumours circulated recently that Disney will be retiring all of its ‘slave Leia’ merchandise in the interests of political correctness.

In an interview, the Wall Street Journal asked her what she made of this, to which she replied quite simply:

“I think it’s stupid.”

She elaborated:

“The father who flipped out about it, “What am I going to tell my kid about why she’s in that outfit?” Tell them that a giant slug captured me and forced me to wear that stupid outfit, and then I killed him because I didn’t like it. And then I took it off. Backstage.”

George Lucas to Attend 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Premiere: "He Really Liked It"

Lucas has expressed some ambivalence about the direction of the new films. In an interview with CBS in November, he said he submitted ideas for the new films but "ultimately, they looked at the stories and they said, 'We want to make something for the fans,'" Lucas said. "People don't actually realize it's actually a soap opera and it's all about family problems — it's not about spaceships.
