Another solid performance from Baldwin and Layman.

I admit I have been a Layman critic, but maybe like Crabbe and Connaughton before him, he will earn a spot in the rotation during his 3rd season. Seems to be a pattern with our second round picks. Given the lack of depth at SF, there is definitely an opportunity there for the taking. Glad to see his shot falling. Other than that first game against GSW, this has been the first evidence that he has extended his shooting range out to the NBA 3-point line. He also seems much more aware and locked in on the defensive end. Good for him!

Man, if Baldwin had a reliable 3-point shot, he could be a starting PG in the NBA. He does everything else so well. I'm not comparing their style of play or skill sets, but 10 years ago, he could have had an Andre Miller type of career - a solid starting PG in spite of the lack of a reliable 3-point shot. As is, he's definitely making a case to be our back up PG and take all of Napier's minutes. Plus, he's only 22, so there is hope the 3-pointer will become more consistent. He's in a great position, learning the game from watching and talking to Lillard. What a perfect role model for him, both on and off the court. I'm glad he's availing himself of Lillard's tutelage.

That was probably another dig, but that actually makes him look even better since most guys in summer league are just out to get theirs. Same with the g league.

Good point. Most guards in summer league look for their own shot and their own shot only (Jerryd Bayless says, "hi".)

Baldwin only scored 7 points today, but is there any doubt he was the most important player om the floor today? He totally controlled the game, set up his teammates and humiliated Trae Young to the point of quitting with his defense.

Layman - if he can only start to shoot like he has so far on a consistent basis. It all looks good but now the shot is starting to fall. Maybe....finally?
Baldwin - this game may be more impressive than when he went off in Game 1. Almost a triple double with 10 assists and only 1 turnover. Very good! And defensively....did it look like he got in Trae's head a little?
Collins - looks a little better and is rejecting shots at a ridiculous rate. 5 blocks in 20 minutes!
Simons - some more flashes but still looks a bit afraid to go in among the tall timbers. Could use to get an assist sooner than later.
Trent - off day but I like his confidence.
Swanigan - love the hustle but outside of eating up rebounds, I don't see NBA level skill on offense or defense. Such heart but just so slow.

The announcers were raving about Baldwin and said essentially what you just said.

Nice Post.
Swanigan close to leading the summer league in rebounds....
and getting his shot blocked....
and in unforced turnovers :(

A little? More like he moved in, put down a security deposit and signed a 12 month lease.

Plus 4 or 5 more the score keeper missed. I wonder of he only sees the same game feed as us - others talking over the broadcast AND TAKING UP HALF THE SCREEN, disorienting overhead and trailing camera angles, etc.

So I had a family thing today and didn’t watch, reading this it sounds like Baldwin was awesome as usual! Swanigan wasn’t very good, Simons, Trent we’re ok? And layman was good.

Who won?

Because of his story, you want so much for him to be able to make it but his lack of explosiveness and slow feet is killing that. The slow feet thing really doesn't get fixed much so about all he can do is learn to quick shoot like ZBo....and it may be a little late to start learning that.

Still love his hustle. Just don't know where he finds minutes. I thought it was an odd pick at the time since Olshey had just spent 2 picks to get Collins....then to draft another big when there were other needs.

So? There's 4 other players on the court contributing to that number.
I almost wonder if that number can be correct, because the next highest is 18. I think it's more that they don't play Swanigan and PapaG at the same time...

Swanigan did get 5 assists, so there's that.

I wish he'd put his chest into people when he has the ball, because the fade away off-handed junk hook isn't getting it done, especially since it's blocked too often.

But, in this game I was mostly bothered by the unforced hands of stone turnovers.

Still, I think he can get better.
