Steve Nash can't make Greg Oden make a dunk. The team will start getting inside scoring when Oden develops into the player he's supposed to be.
Oden was dunking more/Joel is dunking more now playing with the second unit. The ball movement (with a real PG) is so much better. players are motivated to get into good positions/make cuts because they know they'll be rewarded for it. With Nash the effect would be much greater because better players would be doing it. Greg's looks right now are dumps into the post with no one else moving, tough way to learn in isos.
Okay, everything you just posted is the complete opposite of the truth and/or an outright lie. The Blazers do not want to run more, Nate has always been (and will always be) a slow-it-down, half-court, defensive minded, slow paced coach. Anyone who claims to be a Blazer fan should know this simple and fundamental concept. The very reason Sergio has had such a hard time getting playing time is because he always plays up-tempo, when Nate wants him to slow down. And thank you for your insights into the Blazers time-out conversations, what position do you play?
Every damn time they come back with an update during the TO she says he's trying to get them to run more. Last night it war repeated multiple times. Nate has always said he wants to run more off of defensive stops in steals and rebounds. Well we've got those rebounds more now! Slow paced my ass, Nate always says you score before the defense is set or the best shot possible near the end of the clock. If Nash were here we'd try before the defense was set up w/Nash (first 12 seconds) then give it to Roy to work his magic once everything was set (last 12 seconds). Many of the times Roy scores and dominates a possession he just dribbles around at the top of the three point line the first half of the shot clock anyways.
Sergio didn't play because of his defense, and he looked terrible trying to create for players who refused to move w/o the ball or set decent picks. His main guys last year were Jack, Outlaw, and Frye (who can set decent picks). No one to feed down low, mediocre shooters, no scorers, and Jack was semi-competing with him while on the court.
The year before Sergio had made jamaal magloire look half-way decent at times. And don't forget most of LMA early points came off of easy Sergio feeds and getting out on the break. Nash would bring that necessary component to the first unit. [/QUOTE]
Why would the Blazers want to be like the Suns of a couple years ago? They didn't do anything. No team in the history of the NBA that has played a style similar to Phoenix and won anything. Why do you want the Blazers to play a style that is 100% guaranteed to keep you from an NBA Championship.
I didn't say we want to be like them, but I'd like to get some easy buckets to at least be average in the NBA in fast break points. The best two teams in NBA history were great on the break during their LONG runs (Celtics, Lakers). They played good post defense, scored before the defense was set, and if that wasn't there they found ways to get easy buckets and open shots in the half-court. I'm not saying we should run off of made baskets, but we need to become at least AVERAGE in fast break points considering how much we out-rebound teams to not be pathetic.
