Not all fan bases that support their teams expect championships just a chance.
Vegas does the same come gamble enjoy and you never know.
Look MLB now, they generated more interest by markets, same will happen with expanded college football playoffs. No esy going back to the bowl concept with one team voted#1. Doesn't create brand equity and revenue with limited markets every year.

OK, I will say what a lot of people are thinking. Pushing to be 9th or 10th in a 15 team conference is just pathetic. In what reality is that a successful season? Multiple seasons in the 9-12 range is a bigger failure than 1 season at 15th.

Actually, with the new play-in silliness only the top 6 spots could be considered successful.
That’s why in a year like this I really hope that teams with playoff droughts like SAC really push for a playoff spot.

I’ve enjoyed the play-in system. This year is going to be the first year it’s original intent is tested. I wonder if play-in teams tank the game just to get those small lotto odds.

These tweets and other media stuff about Wemby coming to the Blazers are idiotic. Even if the Blazers had the worst record and got the most ping pong balls, there is no guaranty. Time to move on and at least try to enjoy the season. We fans, unfortunately, are more likely to experience a a bad health, or auto incident, than the Blazers getting the rights to draft Wemby happen. So live in the moment, because tomorrow isn't guaranteed.

While I definitely believe in living in the moment as thats the only way to do it, you can (and should!) also look to the future. The chances that Portland misses the playoffs this year are quite high even in the unlikely scenario that they stay healthy. If they suffer a key injury or two, it's a lock. If they land in the top half of the lotto the odds are significantly better then the possibilities you lay out. For instance, last year with the #6 slot Portland had a 9% chance of getting the top pick. Hell, it's anecdotal but I've been in one auto accident in my life & never had a major health scare but in that same span they've had the #1 pick 4 times.

Above all, we're just talking and our conversations have zero to do with what will actually transpire. So live in the moment and enjoy the banter

Can you imagine if there was no lottery this year? If the team with the worst record got the #1 pick? All 30 teams would try to lose. It would be hilarious. That’s how good this guy is.

Not all teams. Some teams don't own their 1st round pick. Like the Lakers.

The Lakers are full of enthusiasm for the new season.
Well they're the lucky fanbase that gets to see Westbrook working his magic every night while eagerly awaiting AD's next lower back flare up

Laker fan is so unrealistic about their flawed team that Vegas is raking in bets for them to win the championship this year despite giving them the 10th worst odds

its wild how well he can control his body being so tall and still make plays when completely off balance either blocking or shooting

Could make a strong argument it'd be best for this franchise to pivot immediately, trade Dame and push for full on tanking.

Even if the team doesn't sell Dame at peak value, by doing a move ASAP they greatly increase the value of their pick.

If the Blazers were to tank, get the right lottery ball combo, and draft another “can’t miss superstar” center, what part of this kid’s anatomy would be destroyed forever?

Not that I’m jaded or anything.

I enjoyed the Oden teams much more than the Juan Dixon teams, so I'm all for it.

Hakeem and Shaq are the only comparisons I could make to Victor in that he's just an unbelievable can't miss prospect... at least as good as any since I started following hoops in the 70s. Only injury will keep him from dominating from the day he first steps on an NBA floor.
