Technical question

Man, I guess I'm still behind. I don't know where the 24 hours thing that you're talking about came from. I don't know what thread you're talking about from last year.

I'm happy to learn new stuff--I don't know everything about everything CBA-related. As far as "in the CBA", I don't have a download of the new CBA. I have the 2005 version, and the NBPA Summary of changes, and I don't know where any of them says that you have 24 hours on the day after the moratorium to complete paperwork/etc. I can quote the rules on how long it takes and the mechanisms for renounced players, the address of the NBA office where the paperwork must be sent, etc., and those aren't 24 hours and are sequential. I'm going by word of mouth. It's not that way for the trade deadline, waiver requests, or renouncing a free agents.

Stuff can be signed/talked about/press conferences done starting at 12:01 EST on the 10th. (Or else you get hit like HOU did). Our trades must be completed before HOU can sign Howard and NOP can sign Evans. That's all I've been trying to say from the beginning of the thread.

Well as long as you know "the great magnifier" has a bigger dick than you; we are okay.

So long as it is all under the 24-hour day, then yes. I really can't believe this is an issue again, considering the embarrassment of last summer by a few posters and their ignorance on what a "day" means.

So a team could theoretically sign a player to a max contract, hold a news conference to announce said player to sell a few tickets, then not make the trade to gain the cap space within the 24hr period and have the contract invalidated. I am sure Stern never thought of this and would never fine a team for announcing things before they are official.

Brian, so long as things are in the process tomorrow for 24 hours, it's all good. You missed this conversation from last season, which got absurd by the end of it when fax machines were supposedly racing to get in their deals so other teams would be fucked over.

No, they would have to submit the signing to the league office before talking about the player, and have it approved, meaning their other deal would have to be approved as well. Trades to clear the space and the signing would all have to be in the league office, and approved, before the player can be announced.

RFA signings can be announced tomorrow, too, but the team holding those rights has 3 days now to match.

It's big enough for Mrs. FromWA, which is all I need. Extra would just go to waste.

There is zero worry of timing being an issue for cap space tomorrow, so long as all moves are made on that day to clear space. The order doesn't matter.

Gotcha.

You copied and pasted a bunch of posts of mine. That usually is a trolling activity, since you didn't address any of the posts.

No, I wasn't trolling when I posted that. You said all you've been doing is providing "technical answers" and I was showing you that that might not be entirely correct.

Seems like I offered the answer to this thread. Meanwhile, you were trolling me. Way to add value.

Papa, why don't you bump or link to the thread. You bumped it the other day so you could snicker at him.

There is no scenario where Houston can hold a press conference for Howard until the Robinson trade is complete.

They will both be completed tomorrow. Once both clear the league office, regardless of which gets approved first, the end result will be Howard going the Houston, and Robinson to Portland.

There is no hurry to get the deal in right away to beat another deal. It only matters that the league receives the moves tomorrow.

The league could not approve a signing if the team does not have the cap space to sign the player.

Just to be clear, I do enjoy the shit out of you. You are one of the most colorful posters here. I think you are quick to get your feathers ruffled but that is part of what makes you so damn fun. To be 100% honest I did post the pictures to spin you up. Call it trolling if you want but it seemed like you were looking to spar with someone so I figured I would jump in there and give you what you wanted.

No harm or insult was intended.

There is a 24-hour window to clear the space, make trades, and sign FAs. We went over this same thing last summer regarding Hibbert/Batum, where people were pan-shatting if Minny got their offer in seconds before Hibbert's, meaning that people thought that Portland could lose Nico for nothing, and not have space for Hibbert.

It was a hilarious thread, because some posters here seemed adamant that first fax in wins the cap space. That's not the way it works.

No worries. I'm correct on this one, and have been for a year since this same stuff was discussed last season.

This is a different scenario to last year

They will both be completed tomorrow.

You cannot say that with 100% certainty since trades do get invalidated and the reason Stern fines teams for commenting on transactions before they are official.

My statement was that Houston cannot hold a press conference for Howard until the Robinson trade is complete and you said that there was. Feel free to say whatever you want to make yourself feel better about trying to connect this thread with the Batum thread of last year.

Link? And how about a link to the long year-old thread?

(Actually, I think Papa guessed right, through elimination of possibilities. But you're acting as if you have the weight of authority behind your guess.)

you know, if league officials were intelligent, they would have checked out all these preliminary agreements to sign and trade agreements to make today go much more smoothly. any chance you think they may have done that?

Seeing that the NBA is a multi-billion dollar entity, I would say there is a chance.

However, seeing how there is still one guy that does all of the scheduling I would not be surprised if they need all ten days of the moratorium to sort out the financials.

lol that sounds likely.

not impressed with OLive, nor much what shows up on that site. especially Jason "i can't get a fact right to save my life" Quick. incidentally, "Quick" isn't really his name ... just his wife's nickname for him!

Now that's just mean!

Not that the schmuck doesn't deserve it.

Repped.

Had a few too many tonight, eh? I think you forgot that we actually get along now.

Aside from a couple rants, I thought we'd always gotten along. I just laugh and poke fun at everyone/everything, including myself, here on this board and in life. It's going to be a long time on this planet; I try to take very little seriously.

If you make any little remark even slightly against him, you are his enemy. He takes everything here very seriously.
