Do you actually have to fire your current coach to look out and see what's available? Are you sure we hadn't done that? Also, Brad Stevens - I didn't see him coaching in the Conference Finals - but Terry Stotts was.....
How can you even fire a coach that just exceeded expectations and took us to the WCF?
Exactly. You extend him and hope he continues to produce. If he doesn't you fire him later. An extension is just that. An extension of the contract. This is not a surprise. You either fire him or extend him. You can't have a lame duck coach next season.
Those guys arent good coaches.Because I live in Phoenix and we interview every available coach every year. the candidates arent that strong. would have rather have them go with Vogel, Williams or Lue? I would rahter have Stotts then any of them.
Who played Simons? For 48 min and had 37? Points?Terry Stotts was only there because Simons went off against the Kings.

For all those successful coaches there's a dozen each that failed. That's why it's called a COACHING SEARCH. Once upon a time, Steve Kerr had zero head coaching experience and not the obvious choice. Mike Budenholzer was once an assistant the Hawks "took a flyer" on. Erik Spoelstra had zero head coaching experience. Brad Stevens was the head coach at a mid-major college program with zero NBA head coaching experience...
No, we're still in the playoffs. Roll the ball it for Dame and CJ and they'll carry a team. Run one basic defense and... oh... wait... that's exactly what we do.For all those successful coaches there's a dozen each that failed.
Terry isnt the best but he isnt bad. This roster isnt even in the playoffs with a bad coach.
Besides the Turner/Meyers contracts Neil has been a good GM.
Most likely any action the Blazers take will not result in a title. Let's make solid choices and if it breaks our way great, if not I can live without it, it's just a game.
The most important aspect io a coach is that the players do what he asks and buy in. I believe he has that.
I hope we don't lose both assistants to other teams.

WCF is not mediocre. WCF kind of indicates we’re a Top 4 team in the league.I saw this coming, and yet I am still disappointed.
Mediocre as mediocre gets.
Did you forget the green font?
Tyronne LueWow, now we're settling for "isn't bad." Name the last coach that "wasn't bad" that won a title.
I think if they had taken the route to tank 4 years ago, he'd probably be gone. But the team has improved each year since the breakup and excelled this year in the playoffs. It's weird it's like he has this crazy long leash of a coach that's won championships, but his claim to fame is he got to the WCF once...
The team has gotten better each of the last 4 years, and will improve again next year, I think. If wanting the team to get better makes me a hater - I will wear that label proudly.

Oh come onThis offseaaon is shit already and were only one day in.
Id say they were a bit better than adequate this year? wouldn't you?I like Stotts. He's a decent coach that players love.
However......
This shows me the organization is fine with being adequate.
Good. There is no obviously better coach available.
Terry literally just said we only lost in the first round once in the last few years. The beat writers had to remind him that we lost to the Pels and the Warriors in the first round in the last TWO years.

Plus, don't discount just how much pull Dame has on this decision. He does count Terry as an important part of the culture and growth of the team that he always refers to when stating he like to be a Blazers for the long haul. Check out that father son embrace they had after the Denver series. The corollary to that is: Don't assume that all change is going to be good. I'm sure that there's another Mike Schuler out there somewhere just waiting for a chance.
Really? May I refer to @OneSport3 giving Kerr, Bud, Stevens, etc as other 'no obviously better coach available' candidates....who obviously were.
Same memory that forgot Curry could shoot and designed a defense to let him have continuous wide-open '3's in Game 1.
This. Of course they like him because he has enabled them to be who they are without demanding more. (CJ....this means you to start with)
See above.
For those with a short memory, Stevens was in the Conference Finals just last year. And if you call what Stotts did in this years Finals, 'coaching', that would seem to be a fairly loose interpretation of the word. Well, at least in terms of good coaching.
This! Blazers benefited greatly from the side of the bracket they were on. Stotts wanted #4. Simons thankfully messed that up or we would have faced the Warriors in the semis. If we get swept in the semis instead of the WCF's, how is everyone feeling about this?
Again, really? Clippers beat Warriors twice....in Oakland. Rockets beat the Warriors twice. Portland has beaten them once.....in the last 4 years in the Playoffs. Not sure how we are a Top 4 team by those metrics. We are by distance covered in the bracket but that takes us back to thanking Anfernee.
Didn't Denver fire George Karl after getting to the WCF's?How can you even fire a coach that just exceeded expectations and took us to the WCF?
I watched the clips / warriors and warriors/blazers. GS honestly slept walked quite a bit through both series' and they just kind of knew they could win. I never questioned the clips effort in that series' I did question Portlands at times, jogging back, not picking up the ball in transition, effort...Wait now. Some things are not accurate here, or missed.
For one, you are saying better coaches WERE available. Those coaches are NOT available now though. Cant change history. Who is an obvious better choice at this moment that is available?
Also, you keep bringing up the clippers winning twice as an indication of them being better than us, but that isn't the end all. I didn't watch the games, so I don't know if i'm accurate or not, but there could always be that they were just floating at that time, because they didn't take the clips seriously, and thus lost focus and motivation. But coming up against the team that people have mentioned could dethrone them, they optimized their potential and focus against us?
Sometimes wins and losses are not the only factor in judging whether a team is better or not. Many factors come into play.
Did you watch the clips and warriors? Maybe I am wrong? If you didn't, then this is a possibility, no?
