Fischer today said to be on the lookout for a Jalen Smith trade coming. And he mentioned the team trading him would do so with the intent of keeping him with an extension in the summer.

Bamba also likely to be moved in a similar deal he hinted.
Saw saric and Smith and 2 2nds for covington suggested elsewhere. ESPN maybe?

I proposed a 3 way, plumlee and kai Jones to Orlando, nurk to Charlotte, bamba here. Couple that with the covington deal to remake our front court and get us out of the tax

again... just passing along stuff im reading. Hawks forum is full of supposed rumormongers and they throw around so many ideas from "people on the inside." Kinda hilarious how much they believe this.

Portland: Rumors out of Portland is they are doing a short term blow up. Everyone but Dame Lillard is available. Portland has spent a lot of time on the phone with Atlanta and has offered C.J. McCollum and a top 5 protected pick for Kevin Huerter and Gallo. As stated, Atlanta is leaning to not trading Kev at this time, but this package and Sabonis/Turner is appealing for different reasons. Both teams have talked about Norm Powell for Clint Capela as an option during the draft. Both have interest in continuing talks. Norm is the only player not fully available outside of Damechise.

Portland is asking for a late 1st or protected 1st from playoff teams for RoCo, Nance, and Nurkic and they want expiring contracts for them as well since they are expiring. Portland goal is to free up enough cash to make a run at Harden, Ayton, Kyrie, and Miles Bridges. C.J. I am being told is readily available for an expiring. I am told that it’s unlikely they can land that with the size of his contract but there is interest from several teams. While Ayton, Bridges, and Harden are unlikely, Kyrie is possible.

I am told if C.J. is traded, they think Orlando is the team to do it. There is decent interest in C.J. I am told also told the Lakers have serious interest in McCollum and he’s their top target. Just something to watch for. He said there is a belief that Nurk and Nance could be moved. Might have to drop the price for RoCo. I am also told; they don’t mind trading a top 5 pick if they land one for a star or superstar to play with Dame. Their goal is to build contender around Dame and Dame is on the same page with this. It’s dumb to me, teams like PHI keep waiting on Dame but it’s just a deflection as they aren’t happy with the offers for Simmons.

Recently added today: I was just listening to Frank and Scal this morning and Chauncey said a positive quip about Kyrie. Don’t think that’s by mistake. This just matches the background noise.

No way any of that is real

CJ and a 1st for Huerter and Gallinari? Hahahahahaha....What a fucking joke.

Powell for Capella....really

Dame and Irving together...bullshit.

Regarding Jalen Smith:

Whatever team trades for him is basically fucked in terms of re-signing him if he's good. If Phoenix keeps him or whatever team trades for him can only offer him his rookie salary of $4.6 million since that would be the 3rd year of his rookie deal. The rule is in place to prevent teams/players from trying to circumvent the 1st round rookie scale. We'd likely lose him for nothing if we traded for him.

Bamba and Bagley are different in that they're actually coming off their full 4 year rookie deal so whatever team gets them has full bird rights to re-sign them.

I asked Fischer about this very thing in the call today and he mentioned that the team looking to trade for him (no mention of Portland at all here) is already in contact with his agents about a potential extension. He said Smith ain't walking from that team.

Hell, I think I'd do Roco for Saric + minimum salary filler if no deals for picks arises. It would get us closer to the tax line and Saric is a starting caliber PF whose contract would be expiring a year later. Essentially kicking the can down the road with a similar caliber player.

There would be some duplication with Saric/Nance once they both get healthy but it wouldn't be too hard to fix.

I mean, I'm sure whatever team acquiring him would ask about the possibilities of keeping him but he's ineligible for an extension and can't be signed for anything more than the $4.6 million so I don't know what to tell you other than he can say he'll stay but if another team offers him say $10 million, he's not gonna stay for $4.6 million.

Was just such a stupid thing by Phoenix to decline his option after 1 year. It's not like he's making a ton of money, would make good salary filler in deals if nothing else.
Yeah, very dumb! Pick it up and then trade him and Saric to SA for Thad Young or something (or anyone else on an expiring contract), but don't not pick it up.

yeah Bobby marks suggested it in his trade primer.

personally I’d pass.

I didn’t even know they declined his third year option. Personally, I try to get him on a cheap 2 or 3 year contract if I get Simmons over trying to trade for Turner. Smith isn’t as big or mobile and isn’t the defender Turner is, but he’d immediately be effective on offense next to Simmons and wouldn’t cost us any assets to acquire. Still a young enough guy for Chauncey to mold into something.

Ant - 22
Thybulle - 24
Nas - 21
Simmons - 25
Nurk - 27

Is interesting to me, though probably no one else. There's probably a better fit than Nurk, though.
Yeah not gonna be an offensive juggernaut, that group. I would take Maxey over Thybulle. Thybulle and Nas are rather redundant and I personally think Nas will be a better player long term due to his physical profile.

I for one am willing to part with CJ / RoCo / Powell / Nance / (1) #1 draft pick and (2) #2 draft picks and possibly Nurkic

PORTLAND receives:
Simmons (Philly)
John Collins (ATL) after Jan 15th
Woods (Houston)

[Dame / Powell / Simmons / Collins / Woods]
Smith / Simons / McLemore / Nance / Zeller
Watford / Brown / Blevins

ATLANTA receives:
Harris (Philly)
#1 pick / protected (from Portland)

PHILLY receives:
Woods (Houston)
RoCo (Portland) expiring
CJ (Portland) they can always trade CJ
Snell (Portland) expiring
Elleby (Portland)
(2) #1 picks / unprotected (Portland, obtained from Houston) and unprotected (2025 Portland)

[philly picks up good picks, serviceable players, expiring contracts] They get rid of $69,000,000!

HOUSTON receives:
Nurkic (Portland) expiring
[No longer happy with Woods. And they can really clear cap space for the summer or sign Nurk]

Man, if we could swing deals and land John Collins and Simmons…

willing to part with CJ / RoCo / Powell / Nance / (1) #1 draft pick and (2) #2 draft picks

or shall we settle on Harris + Simmons for
CJ / RoCo / Nance / #1 and two #2’s and trade directly with Philly?
Dude, if we're taking Harris's contract they're not getting shit from us in the way of picks and even though he doesn't make sense for their team I think they would want Nurk and his expiring contract more than Nance... plus we need the extra money that Nurk's contract would bring to even make the trade work (although you could just throw CJE in with CJ, RoCo and Larry if that's what was needed).

I'm not against the Harris/Simmons trade... I actually think they play really well together and if the focal point of their offense was a generous PG like Dame instead of stingy/thirsty C like Embiid, they'd play even better together. Yes Harris would be making a ton of money as our third best player but he's a helluva bucket getter and a much better defender for his position than any of the guards we would currently be playing if healthy (DSJ is probably on his level).

If we kept Larry the flexibility we would have would be great. You could play Dame, Norm, Nas, Harris and Simmons to start or Dame, Norm, Simmons, Harris and Larry. That's why I want Simmons so badly because his defensive versatility gives you so many options and I think his offensive game is already amazing and even this late in his career he could find his stroke. The reason why I think that is because the guy is so coordinated, has amazing pass accuracy, is such a pure athlete and the biggest reason is that I've seen the videos of him burying threes in the gym and he's never consistently tried to in games. I just think we really need to do whatever we have to in order to pair Dame with Simmons.

It would be amazing to get Collins and Simmons somehow. I would be willing to give up any combination of guys not named Dame and up to three future first rounders to land those two. A big three of Dame, Simmons and Collins would win a championship. I don't really see how we have the assets to do that though but if it could be done that would be cool.

[Although 4-team trades are rare, I revised my scenario. Check it out]

Jalen Smith has the potential to be a star. I’d take a gamble on that for a RoCo type deal. Damn would be a great young core.

There's a small problem and a couple big problems. The small problem is that you need to remove Woods (Houston) from under PHILLY receives because he can't go to both teams.

The bigger problem is that we don't have access to our picks because of the conditional nature of the pick we owe Chicago. If you felt confident that Simons could hold down the fort with that team until Dame got back and that we'd definitely make the playoffs I'm pretty sure you could get the Bulls to let us take the protection off but that would be a huge gamble for us because that pick could end up being the first pick if we miss the playoffs and won the draft lottery. The other big problem is that the Hawks are taking on too much salary; so they would have to send over another 7.1M in salary to the Sixers to make this whole thing work under the CBA.

Also I just don't think that Houston is going to give up Wood and two first rounders for Nurk... they might not even give up Wood for Nurk straight up even though he's been a headache for them. Maybe they would take Nurk straight up for Wood or maybe they wouldn't but no way they throw in two first rounders IMO.

I’d rather try to get our pick back or something along those lines for Covington. Jalen is unrestricted in 2022. With the trade(s) bound to happen by the deadline, there will be enough money to get a guy like him.

He wasn’t even on my radar until today, but he should be a priority in FA. Johnson is the perfect 5 to pair with Ben if that is the ultimate goal.
