When he did come over he gave 110%, and adapted to the role his coach had for him. I saw that someone said that Nate's style would have pushed Sabas away, I call bullshit. The guy could simply play the game no matter what, The Anti-Sabonis on the other hand cannot, and therefore will be known as a guy that needs a niche. I guess he is Spain's version of Korver.

Actually, Sabas was not held back by his Government, he chose to stay in, of all places, Spain.

My recollection was that he was given like $10mil/year + use of cars + use of a large villa. He was treated like a king, and he was a partyer who lived large and only had to play about 30 games/year including playoffs.

Hmm. Sounds like the type of guy killing to come over and prove himself in America. Unlike Rudy, who gave up, arguably, that same sort of offer to come here as soon as he could. I remember CSKA offering him a rather large deal, if I recall correctly, that he turned down to come here. Likely with promises that didn't happen.

Not to say Rudy doesn't shoulder blame as well.

I used to refer to Ha as the Anti-Sabonis - similar size, but absolutely no feel for the game.

With Sabonis, it was like the game was moving in slow motion around him and he could see things others couldn't. With Ha, it was like he was moving in slow motion and everyone else was buzzing around him at the speed of light.

Curses upon anyone speaking ill of Sabas. The only way I would have been more pleased with AS would have been, of course, if he arrived a few years earlier and if he would have knocked Sheed's teeth through the back of his head for the towel throw.
