The "Blazers suck" thread

Carlito has just been given a 24hr vacation. He'll be back.

Why only 24 hours. He was permanently banned once and was allowed to come back and continues to do the exact same shit. How many chances does he get? Have some balls and enforce the permanent ban. It was well deserved and the right thing to do. Undoing it makes zero sense.

It's not like he's been crazy and out of line. He's just being a constant bitch. As irritating as it is, I don't really think we should permanently ban people for being bitches.

So, why was he "permanently" banned in the first place? Why hasn't that ban been enforced? Why bother if you're just going to let him do the same shit under a different username?

Speaking for myself, he makes the forum much less enjoyable. He's so prolific, he infects almost every thread with his trolling and baiting. Even with him on ignore, it's still irritating as others fall for his bait and then perfectly good threads get derailed and become useless. I come here for intelligent discussion of Portland Trail Blazers basketball, not to provide group therapy for some whiny child who is desperate for attention.

I didn't ban him the first time, nor did I really pay attention, so I have no clue.

I don't disagree. He bitches to unrealistic levels, it's just annoying because it's on the negative end. By the same token, Mags does it to the opposite degree (Mags, we cool FAMS, just using use as an example, you anti-Mixum). He's positive, so it's okay. Some might say it detracts, but if you're just giving your opinion, why should they be permanently banned?

I agree with temp bans to remind people to reel it in.

Completely agree. There is no good reason to allow him to continue to troll this board. He never has anything constructive to offer.

But he's not just giving his opinions, he's deliberately trolling the forum and baiting other posters. That's against the forum guidelines and the reason he was "permanently" banned in the first place.

I would argue that Mixum isn't actually giving his opinion, but is posting intentionally negatively for effect. Not seeking to be a part of or contribute to the community, but intending solely to disrupt it.

Yep, makes me wonder how many good posters we've lost because of him. I know I enjoyed the forum much more when he was banned.

I've met enough Negative Nancies in this world I just picture mixum as a negative, super-toxic pain with no friends and a piss-poor worldview.

EXACTLY! And that's why he was "banned" in the first place. Refusal to enforce that ban is a cowardly joke and an insult to the posters who come here to actually discuss Portland Trail Blazers basketball.

Agreed, but it's not my job to solve his problems and I don't want him polluting my favorite forum with his "issues".

I think the fundamental difference is that Mags actually is both negative and positive about the team. Yes, he's a little over-zealous in some of his beliefs (top 3 seed), but it's not like he discounts you for not believing him.

I've seen Mags be negative/down about the team FAR more than I've seen Mixlito be postive about the team. That, in a nutshell, is the difference.

Because I try and at least try to provide something substantial to the board. No offense taken. Mixum actually tries to rile up the forum. Only time I do that is on the OT section. ;)

Thanks man! Although my blazer world is Rose colored, I can admit our deficiencies.

But we will be a top 4 team. That's not a troll either! ;)

I think the difference between a pissed off fan vs. someone who is just trying to piss us off....is pretty obvious. It takes about 3 posts to figure it out. It gets old really fast.

I do think mixum occasionally does bring up legit things for discussion, but always from the negative perspective, which is where we often can't differentiate between him pointing out legit concerns and him just trolling.

I believe his posts are mostly for reaction. Provocative negativism as in OregonLive.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not sticking up for him. Just think the banning and restricting is lame, unless you're really causing significant problems. Not speaking directly to the case of mixum, just in general.

What happened to Further? Haven't seen him post on the Blazer board in some time.

I'm still here, just posting less. I found myself debating sides of issues instead of discussing topics. The former I don't enjoy much, the latter I love. I'm not blaming anyone else, I was mostly at fault. But discussions never remain for long, everyone chooses sides and then refuses to admit there is some merit from multiple directions. I'll be back, just not too enthusiastic about this place right now.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time you've told me to have some balls. It's not about if I have balls or not. It's about trying to find a fair balance in how to moderate this forum. IMO and this is just my opinion, other mods feel differently, every moniker/person should be judged on what that moniker/person has done. The sins of a previous moniker does not transfer to the new moniker. I know of two other people who have retired an old moniker and created a new moniker in order to either reinvent themselves or to put past attitudes or opinions behind. It's hard, I know Carlito is Mixum but I try my best to judge Carlito only on what Carlito has done. I think this is the fairest way possible to judge someone in this forum.

If you don't think I have balls enough or am man enough to be a moderator of this forum please say so. Make a thread, have me replaced by someone you do think has the balls or am man enough to do so.

Also, please stop calling him an asshole. Personal attacks no matter how justified are not allowed.

A temporary ban is the first step in the process to permanently ban someone.

I think it's important and fair that we follow some sort of process.

The thing that surprises me here is the pressure put on posters to conform to to the the most vocal majority composite opinion. Very much like OL. What seems to be missing is an understanding that personality characteristics of individuals will cause them to have different opinions even if the majority do not want to tolerate lack of conformity.

That's not it at all. What is not tolerated are personal attacks. I have negative opinions about the team, I have positive opinions about the team, but if you're going to start screaming "blow it up" after the first game of the season, you're going to get a lot of shit about it.

There are people who post to provoke a reaction out of people which is very much different from posting your opinion.

I wasn't speaking to you specifically. I just think the whole banning thing is completely useless if you allow him to come back and start the same tired shit over again just by changing his username. He'll just get banned again, come back and start all over ad infinitum. Why even pretend to ban him when the ban is meaningless? He didn't reinvent himself, he just came back under a new username.

Fine, if he gets to circumvent the rules so do I. I didn't call him an asshole, I called his persona an asshole. I didn't attack the person, I attacked the persona - which you just said is judged independently of the person behind the persona. Rudy may be a saint in real life, but his current and past personas suck.

I was about to say how is it a personal attack when that person you called an asshole isn't even here. Hell, even carlito says he is not mixum. So I can call the banned "mixum" a piece of shit poster that should never be allowed to post here again. ;). Who are we attacking really?

Oh please, this has nothing to do with conformity. The poster in question deliberately trolls this forum and baits posters. Just in case it's not obvious, he even admitted it and got banned for it. Now he's back, with the EXACT same behavior under a new name.

Differing opinions are always welcome. They add to the vitality of this forum. Blatant trolling and baiting are not welcome and detract from the value of this forum. That's why trolling and baiting are against the rules - allegedly.
