The Blazers will match Batum

That Portland can match an offer that Minnesota makes.

Minnesota is in negotiations to trade Ridnour for a non-guaranteed contract to clear space to make the offer sheet.

Please explain what cards Portland has?

All they can do is overpay Batum, then the Wolves go on their way and get a different player.

You really think an extra $2M or so per year to Batum makes a difference to Paul Allen?

If Minnesota makes the player dump to have the space to make an offer on Batum, those assets are gone and can't be used in any trade scenarios. All you have left is cap space and everybody seems to have cap space this year when there aren't many good FA's. If Kahn whiffs on this deal, he'll regret having used all of his trade assets up in a futile attempt to grab Batum.

Hawkey seems a tad slow.

I'll help you out, Chris.

Owner Paul Allen and Neil Olshey have stated more than once that they WILL exercise their right to match any offer sheet.

Nic and his agent can cry all they want. He can be the saddest $48m player if he wants. *busts out little violin*

Ok, then you're paying Batum $12 mil while you're trying to rebuild the team. You aren't a big winner in this situation.

Really! It'll take 12 carbon copies of the MN owner to = one Paul Allen.

But in the process we save Batum from frostbite and mosquito bites. It's the humanitarian thing to do.

How is it that the Wolves get rid of all these players? You can only amnesty one player, and if you waive the others, the money is still on your cap. You have to find another team to take your junk. Or have the player agree to a buyout, but why should they do that when they know you have to waive them anyway? Unless you actually pay them MORE to tear up their contract, but I've never heard of that happening.

How long is Glen Taylor going to stand this idiot? I guess he stood McHale for a LONG time, but next to Kahn McHale looks like a genius.

And I guess Taylor was the genius who cost Minny all those picks over colluding with JOE SMITH.

It's pretty simple

The Blazers can match any offer, which is why Minnesota wants a S&T

The Blazers have all the leverage in this situation, as they can keep saying no to any trade offer from Minnesota they don't deem good enough, and still be able to just match the contract if Minny does indeed sign him to an offer sheet

Kahn is going to have to be very creative to be able to land Batum. Olshey owns his ass right now.

And exactly how many players do the Wolves have to give up before they've got enough room to pay Roy + Batum what they've been promised and sign Stiemsma and Shved?

I say we offer Stiemsma and Shved twice what they've been offered by Kahn if they sign right now. I actually like those players.

I say we offer the Minnesota Timberwolves cash as part of the trade if he agrees to fire Kahn.

Hey, if Kahn can get us Deng in the S&T then I'm on board. Did you know he's just a month older than Aldridge? And his game might not be as flashy as Batum's but he's a hell of a lot more consistent.

I would be very happy with that even without picks, but what does Chicago need to make that happen?

You guys aren't seeing the VERY GOOD News here. This mess has added to our S2 lexicon:

"Deal Coming Soon" (MM)
"HCPs Wife" (HCP)
"TimberTrolls" (Minny Fans)

Actually, TimberTrolls is an affectionate term used by some of the Minny fans to describe themselves. Indeed most of the idiots spamming here weren't actually TimberTrolls. But, to heck with it, I'll use TimberTrolls as a derogatory term to describe them all. Stupid TimberTrolls:lol:

He talks about us signing Batum for $12 mil while we rebuild? Uh, but you want him on your team, and want to pa him, and uh... Not sure if you saw the standings, but we finished ahead of you.

We were on a playoff spot all year. Then Ricky, Love, Pek, and Ridnour got hurt. You should have paid closer attention last year, the Wolves were fun to watch with everyone healthy. You really think you would have had a better record than us if all our best players didn't get hurt? Playing without the two players your entire team is based around is tough. You finished 2 games ahead of us.

Yeah, we understand we're overpaying but that's a risk we're willing to take. We think he'd fit in really well with our team, he could make us much better, and he wants to be here. We're improving. You're just paying more for the same team. Not sure how that's leverage. You can pay him that much if you want, but I don't think you want to.

And for the questions about how the Wolves could waive players- it's really not difficult

Darko- Amnesty clause
Martell Webster- non-guanteed contract (>$1mil buyout)
Brad Miller- announced retirement

We traded away Wallace, Camby, lost Aldridge to the same amount of games as Love missed, AND....we had Felton running the point for us.

Lawyered.

And still, all of this is still a moot point.

Come correct, or don't come at all, Farmer Chris.

Blazers appear set to go to the mattresses to sign Nic Batum.

Thanks for the info on how you are going to shed salary.

Well I don't know if you noticed but the Blazers came out last season like gangbusters and then the wheels fell off, our entire team was traded away and LMA had season ending surgery.

I feel like a S&T will probably be worked out so you will probably add Batum, but I could see the wolves still totally sucking ass. Roy could cause locker room problems and be essentially done by 2013. Batum could totally wilt under the pressure of his big contract. And the team could go back to its lottery ways and... Then what?? You have a KLove probably looking to go else where. The funny thing is that Minnesota could feel like it gets everything that it wants and it could still blow up in their face.

I hope there is a S&T and the Blazers get some pieces back. That would be ideal in my opinion. I have never wanted Batum at that price. However, frankly I hope that it works out for Batum and Roy. But, I could see how it easily could become a bad bad situation.

Just trying to interject a little sanity into this dream world where you think teams are going to hand over their whole to team to pay a contract you don't really want anyway.

You guys and Olshey are going to figure out how it works on NBA2k12 and how it works in real life are very different. Teams aren't going to give you all their assets for nothing, and Batum isn't going to sign some crap $6 million dollar deal like you offered him before.

If you get Batum for $12 mil, congratulations. You won. Throw a big party.

I think you're the one in the NBA2K dream world, thinking adding up 3 65s is going to get you to a 75. Good luck.

Chris-Chris-Chris,

If you sign him we will match. It's as simple as that. Now go ahead and sign him.

Hey redneck, do yourself a favor: when dropping "knowledge" on injuries, go look and see what teams have lost more games played to injuries. Portland's right at, or in the top few, for the last 3-4 years. And I'm not just talking scrubs. I'm talking starters.
