No, that is not the problem. Here is an example:

Person A says "we should split up Dame and CJ by trading CJ for a bigger wing." Now we can discuss whether or not that should happen.

Person B then after CJ gets hurt says "Person A you're going to get what you wanted now!" It's a mischaracterization of what Person A wanted and leads to an argument. Posts like that are what leads to this crap, not stating an unpopular opinion.
Mischaracterization of what people say and even what they think happens all the time in this forum. It leads to many problems and I'm constantly battling against it. One of my biggest pet peeves.

Just the other day you had an unpopular opinion that you'd rather have a 4.5% chance at Zion than have the Blazers be a top-4 playoff team. As stupid as that logic was (jk) it didn't lead to name calling.

I would add that it matters who says it and then often times a small group goes into hyper drive after the poster. i have seen it and experienced it.

I' have a question, did you post that with a serious face or was there a chuckle, even a slightest one?

Its hard even in real life. Part of the issue with text is that we lose a lot the tools we normally have for communication. Couple those things with gamethread reactions and emotions, things can definitely go sideways and I dont think of any of us are innocent.

Last summer I think as Blazer fans there was a lot of frustration.

.

you certainly have to allow for emotional reactions and venting in game threads. People...all of us at times, will overreact. Especially if Scott Foster is involved or Harden is successfully fishing for whistles against Portland...or Draymond Green is just himself.

Yeah just reading those things makes me go ughhh.

Hey now....
That might not be very popular. But it might be true so come to think of it? I'm sure it ain't gonna be popular.

I think there are multiple examples.

I just know from past experience that not being blind to the team leads to being called a troll and people questioning others fanhood

Depends on who's reading the thread

I have thought about changing it, maybe I could be theposterformerlyknownasTorturedBlazerFan.

It should read like this:
