You mean there's a Dark Knight thread in the Nets forum?

But, is there a spygate thread in the Nets forum?

</div>

Probably.

Sweet tapdancing Jesus! Why am I wasting my time elsewhere; It sounds like the Nets forum is 1 stop shopping. Or, maybe just the internet equivalent of Walmart? rofl.

Sig worthy.

Heath's joker blew Jack's out of the water. The only other actor I think could pull off such a cynical Joker is Depp, but out of respect for Heath, I don't think he'd take the role.

I think to end the Nolan era of Batman, we could have Commissioner Gordon tell Batman that Joker has escaped Arkum and leave it on a cliff hanger. Seems like a very fitting end to the Nolan-era Batman films.

BTW, besides the interrogation scene...the body bag scene was fuckin' incredible. So creepy seeing Heath laying there.</div>

Actually that doesn't sound so bad, I imagined Depp as the Joker just a couple of days ago.

I don't think Heath would be that pissed if they wanted to continue using the Joker. It would be a tough act to follow, but it would make the Franchise so much more money in the future if they got a popular and talented replacement like Depp.

I don't think that Heath really has a choice next time since he won't be in any position to disagree. Same goes for Elvis when his daughter decided to marry Michael Jackson. Heath Ledger is not bigger than the movie. Heath did a great job, and should be honored for his work, but he took himself out of the picture - no pun intended. To me, Heath raised the bar, but didn't close the door on having another Joker. It's on them to cast a Joker that can fill his shoes. If they found the right guy once, it's not out of the realm of possibility that they can do it again.

You took that literally? Lol. :]

Heh, I was speaking hypothetically, as in, if his ghost appeared before you and you asked him his opinion. I just don't see what is so offensive about it, and the Joker is just too popular to ignore.

We don't pay our greeters as well as Walmart.

I'd be against Depp. Adrien Brody who was rumored to be up for the role might not be a bad replacment.

Funny enough, Depp also replaced Heath in his last movie (The Dark Knight was Heath's second to last role).

Why can't they recast the Joker? They did w/ the "Crow".

Because Heath did a spectacular job as The Joker. It's going to be hard for any actor to repeat such a performance.

Bad comparison, Batman is an established franchise now that will draw the ire of many actors. A role can always be recast if the right person comes along (Edit- GMJigga below this post, has the biggest reason why I would re-cast though), and there is certainly a large enough budget to pay the next Joker well, too.

Heath did a superb job, but not good enough that you can retire Batman's arch nemesis.

There is question that they should put the Joker back into the movie. The question is who will they pick. I pick Depp.

Not many actors will want the part of the Joker. There's going to be a lot of pressure on them, because Ledger really set the bar high, and no matter what happens, there's going to be comparisons between the Joker in the 2nd and 3rd film. After all, everyone was comparing Jack's Joker and Heath's Joker.

I disagree. I think many actors will want the part. Many actors want a role as a supervillian in a blockbuster movie. They also wan that paycheck that will pay so much it will set them for the rest of their life. Maybe a couple of actors will decline to take the role. They are in a very small minority. If anything, most actors will look at this as a challenge, with great rewards.

Comparisons are made all the time. This is to be expected. Comparisons should not dictate whether or not they will go through with adding the Joker as a villain in the next movie. I hope they bring him back.

Pressure? The pressure is squarely on the director's shoulders. If he wants a Joker, then he will get a Joker. The pressure comes from deciding who he will cast for that role. Don't forget about how well the other actors did in this movie, and how he brought the whole thing together. He deserves some credit for how well Heath Ledger appeared in this movie. Remember, they only take the best takes for scenes. He had to decide which of Heath's takes to use for each scene. He picked the best ones, obviously.

Normally, I would agree with you, but not in this case. The whole point is that this was Ledger's big role before his death. Under those circumstances, it's a turn-off to take Ledger's place as The Joker in Nolan's Batman.

if they can have 500 different actors play batman in the span of 6 movies* , than surely they can have someone else play the joker

*yes, that's a big exageration

I don't care if they recast the Joker, I really don't. I'm just pointing out why the role might not be attractive to some of the actors.

How could they recast the Joker after Jack Nicholson played him? Heck, the Batman movies have generally been about the bad guys as stars.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Denny Crane @ Jul 22 2008, 09:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>How could they recast the Joker after Jack Nicholson played him? Heck, the Batman movies have generally been about the bad guys as stars.</div>

Heath definitely outdid Jack in this last film.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>What about the third installment's villains?
It was widely believed that Two-Face would be the villain of the third installment. David Goyer, who penned Batman Begins and helped on The Dark Knight, had said that the Joker would disfigure Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, in the third film, but we now know that Dent's disfigurement occurs in Dark Knight, and he is presumed dead or unconscious by the end of the film, though the character could easily be brought back with some realistic explanation.

Asked about whether the Joker would appear in the third film (requiring the role to be recast), director Christopher Nolan stated "I don't know. I honestly have not taken a moment away from what is going on with the film now to even think about that. I don't know. I simply don't know." It has been rumoured by an unconfirmed source that there may be some extra footage of Heath Ledger's Joker that can be used in the third film, but at this time it is unknown.

Referring to how Heath Ledger's absence will affect the third film in an interview with Movie Hole, Gary Oldman stated, "Maybe we don't need the Joker. Because we'll have The Riddler."

There has been speculation on the web that the man who tried to blackmail Batman, named Mister Reese (as in "mysteries"), will turn into The Riddler, although that character is traditionally the alter ego of a man named Edward Nigma. The Mister Reese character is presented in a bumbling manner contrary to the common interpretation of the Riddler, who is one of Batman's most cunning and intelligent foes. Moreover, in one of the newspapers released with the viral marketing, there is a 'letter to the editor' that is authored by Edward Nashton, another of Riddler's alter-egos.

There is one point where Lucius Fox and Batman are discussing the new Bat-suit. Batman makes a comment about the strength of the suit, asking if it would be able to protect him from dogs. Lucius says it should protect him from "cats"--a possible reference to Catwoman.

Some fans were disappointed about The Scarecrow's small role in the film. He was, however, kept alive. This could foreshadow a return.</div>
