Maybe. Can you prove that drinking helps rehabilitate knees, and keeps off weight? Oden himself even said he drank too much. Am I the only one who remembers this interview? Why would Oden bring it up if he didn't think of it as yet another excuse?

It's not like Oden stopped drinking after that, either? He's a Good Time Charlie who didn't take his injuries seriously, IMO. He'll be 26 years-old in January, and can't possibly be the athletic freak he was before all of his injuries, unless he is some sort of medical miracle.
I wasn't aware being an abstemious monk was a requirement of rehab.
He is unlikely the same player he could have been at 21, but you can't teach size or strength, which he has in bunches. It's a shame he didn't feel a bit more loyalty to a franchise and a fan base that put so much hope, energy and support into him. But after reading many of these posts, I am coming around to the idea that if I were him, I wouldn't want to be in Portland either.
